Esprit de corps

The French phrase esprit de corps, is used to express unity, common interests and purpose, as developed in associates in a

task, action or growth.

13

Research has long validated that medical trainees want a sense of community,

From medical students to chief resident, all trainees want to be “part of the TEAM”

Esprit de corps

14

Inspiring TEAM-members can only be accomplished when everyone knows the mission. Social Medicine at Southampton

has a clear vision statement.

Know your Mission

15

Mission Statement

• The Southampton Hospital residency training programs are designed to provide training that meets the needs of those graduates who intend on becoming board certified primary care physicians.

• The exclusivity of the Residency Program in Social Medicine at Southampton Hospital ensures that all of our interns and residents have full access and opportunity to learn both the art and science of medicine.

Stony Brook Medicine at SouthamptonResidency Program in  Social Medicine

• The Residency Program in Social Medicine believes health is not the absence of disease, but a state of spiritual, physical, social, economic and psychological well‐being.

• We believe health care is a matter of social justice.

17

RPSMSocial Medicine at Southampton

• We are dedicated to full application of the biopsychosocial model.

• We seek to work collaboratively with our patients and their families, colleagues and communities to provide excellent patient‐centered care.

• We support a context that fosters health by providing culturally sensitive and respectful care.

• Through leadership modules and education, we train the next generation of medical leaders to identify institutional and personal forms of prejudice and exploitation that adversely affects the health and well‐being of our patients.

Once again research has shown, that trainees often settle near their training hospital. This is

particularly true if house-staff physicians felt a sense of community; felt as if their voices mattered

during training.
