General Rules and Regulations 1. Pre-Registration is REQUIRED for this show to be able to go through the sale.

2. Must be a member of a 4-H Club/FFA in Buchanan, Andrew, Clinton, DeKalb or Platte counties during the 2015-2016 4-H/FFA year. Must be a member in good standing according to state regulations.

3. Each member must be enrolled in project in which he/she is showing. The Danish System of judging will be used: awards will be made in Blue, Red, and White groups.

4. Livestock must have been owned and cared for by 4-H/FFA members according to the following dates: Steers, March 1; Breeding Animals, June 1; Market Hogs, Lambs, Production Pen, and Rabbits June 1 .

5. Each member will be required to show his/her animal. In case of emergency, the superintendent must approve any deviation from this rule. Members helping another must be from the four counties.

6. Health certificates for swine and beef are optional for 2016. SMQA’s required for the show. http://agebb.missouri.edu/smqa/

7. Showmanship will be judged during the show and will have a final showmanship class as long as you are an exhibitor.

8. Any animal that has been through a previous sale will not be allowed to show.

9. Exhibitors must take their own animals through the sale in order to be eligible to receive premiums.

10. Where circumstances are not covered by stated rules, the Missouri State Fair rules will apply.

11. All decisions of the judge and/or Grievance Committee will be final.

12. No re-weighs on any market animals.

13. No animals released until conclusion of show.

14. Any disqualified animal will not be allowed to show or go thru sale.

Sale Sale Order: To Be Announced

A premium sale will be offered for all steers, breeding beef, sheep, goats and swine exhibitors

(limited to two drafts) from Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, and Platte Counties. Excluding bottle calves.

One draft: production pen per exhibitor.

One draft: rabbit per exhibitor

Animals going through the sale will be sold for premium only, with the member retaining ownership.

A member may sell only two drafts through the sale regardless. After the champion and

reserves sell, then all exhibitors must sell at least one draft before a member can sell a second draft.

2016 4-H Livestock Show and Sale Sale Information

Important Information

1. There will not be any checks issued for four weeks after the show for premiums. We need this time to get the billing statements in order.

2. You must cash checks within 90 days of date of issue, or they will be voided.

3. If you lose your check and it requires re-issuing, there will be a stop payment charge deducted from the check amount.

4. A delay in issuing premium checks may occur until the donor pays their pledge.

5. There will be an administrative fee equaling 7% of the gross sale price.

General Requirements 1. Health Certificates: The term “Health Certificate” or “Certificate of Veterinary Inspection”

means a legible record made on an official form of the state of origin, issued by an accredited veterinarian, which shows that the animal listed thereon met the testing, vaccination treatment and health requirements of the state of destination. Unless stated otherwise in the following rules, a “Health Certificate” or “Certificate of Veterinary Inspection” must accompany all animals to be exhibited and be available on request by animal health officials.

2. Animals with active lesions of “ringworm” with resulting loss of hair, or “warts” easily visible without resulting examination will not be permitted to exhibit and shall be subject to isolation or expulsion depending upon the nature and seriousness of the disease.

3. The following listed entry requirements on livestock are for exhibition only. These minimal health and testing requirements do not qualify livestock that are to be sold or moved to a new owner or destination. Please investigate and comply to the added requirements for livestock that are to be in a sale as well as on exhibition.

Animal Health Requirements for Exhibition

Exhibition Requirements for Swine in the State of Missouri Intrastate and Interstate swine must be individually identified (by ear notch) on the health

certificate. 1. Intrastate Swine: No health certificate of veterinary inspection is required. All breeding

stock, including purebred and crossbred barrows and gilts, will be required to have recognizable ear notches in both ears, and farrowing date. No fresh or scabby notches will be accepted.

2. Market class swine must originate from a Level II (or above) status in the Pork Producers Quality Assurance Program.

Exhibition Requirements for Sheep in the State of Missouri 1. Sheep that are to be exhibited must be free of clinical signs of an infectious or contagious

disease.

2. Sheep (except castrated males) must be identified to flock or origin using official ID (ear tags or tattoos) and listed individually on a health certificate

3. The new Scrapie eradication law has gone into effect. This means that all sheep and goat exhibitors must have ear tags in place (in bucks and does) to show at the Buchanan Area Livestock Show. No tests are required for the tags, but you must have the tags. All sheep and goats (bucks and does) that are for show must have these tags.

Exhibition Requirements for Cattle in the State of Missouri 1. Intrastate Cattle: No health certificate of veterinary inspection is required. A negative

brucellosis test within 90 days prior to exhibition is required for all bulls and non-OCV heifers 18 months of age and over, Spring heifers, and heifers that have already calved (regardless of age). Beef breed OCV heifers under 24 months and dairy breed OCV heifers under 20 months of age do not need a test. No test is required for animal from certified brucellosis-free herds, provided that current certified herd number and test date are shown on the health certificate. No TB test is required for Missouri cattle. Cattle from scabies quarantined area or herd cannot exhibit.

Poultry Section Committee, 4-H poultry Leaders and Parents

Production Pen Rules 1. An entry consists of three (3) pullets/hens. Exhibitors are allowed up to, two (2) entries in

the Production Pen Show.

2. Owners are responsible for care of chickens prior to judging.

3. All entries must be present at the time of judging and remain until released by the judge. Only the Champion Production Pen and the Reserve Champion Production Pen of the 4-H/FFA Show will be cooped at the completion of judging. All of the other Production Pen entries will be released and sent home.

4. Production pens will be judged on the following criteria:

Rabbit Section Committee, 4-H Rabbit Leaders and Parents

1. Exhibitors may show up to 5 rabbits.

2. Exhibitors may show in either/or breed classes or meat pen.

3. Owners are responsible for care of rabbits prior to judging.

4. Any rabbit showing evidence of any disease or open sores will not be allowed to exhibit. Any sick rabbit may be excused from the showing by the official judge.

5. If a rabbit is disqualified it will not be permitted to go thru the sale.

6. Members must be enrolled in the project during the current year.

7. All entries must be present at the time of judging and remain until released by the judge. Only the Champion Rabbit and the Reserve Champion Rabbit of the 4-H/FFA Show will be penned at the completion of judging. All of the other rabbit entries will be released and sent home.

Swine Section Committee, 4-H Swine Leaders and Parents

Swine Rules 1. Member may show an individual market hog - limit two (2) in any breed, need not come out

of the pen of three. Member limited to four (4) head in the show.

2. A member may sell a single individual out of each pen of three (3) except if the Grand and Reserve Champion pig should come out of a single pen, then they would sell individually. This rule is to be interpreted at the discretion of the show committee.

3. A member must show his or her hogs to go through the sale.

4. Weight minimum for 2016 show will be 210 lbs and up, with the exception of Buchanan County exhibitors. No re-weighs.

5. No powder, oil, or paint will be allowed in grooming hogs. Any exhibitors who violate this rule will have their animal(s) dismissed from the show and sale.

6. Members must show their Show Me Quality Assurance card at time of weigh-in.

7. Classes will be broken by weight.

8. You must show your own animal unless cleared by swine committee.

Sheep Section Committee, 4-H Sheep Leaders and Parents

Sheep Rules 1. Exhibitors will be limited to two (2) entries in the show.

2. Exhibitors will be limited to two (2) drafts through the livestock sale.

3. All breeds and crossbreeds will be shown together in the market classes. They will be divided by weight as determined by the superintendent.

4. Animals must have lamb teeth to show in lamb classes.

5. Sheep must weigh a minimum of 90 lbs to participate in the show with the exception of Buchanan County members. No re-weighs.

6. A member must show his or her own animal to go through the sale.

7. Member must show their Show Me Quality Assurance card at time of weigh-in.

8. All lambs must be slick sheared upon arrival.

Beef Rules 1. The beef show is an all breed show. There will be three (3) basic weight groups of: Light,

Medium, and Heavy Weight. They will be broken further as needed by the committee so that there will be no more than 10 steers per class.

2. Each member may not show more than two (2) steers. They must have been owned by March 1. Two (2) steers may be shown in the same class.

3. A member may show two (2) breeding animals per class. If not registered, show in Crossbred Heifer class.

4. A member must show his or her own beef to go through the sale.

5. Minimum weight for steers is 950 lbs. For all counties with the exception of Buchanan County members. No re-weighs.

6. Member must show their Show Me Quality Assurance card at time of weigh-in.
