My Hiding Place

Remember when you were young and played hide ‘n go seek? When it was your turn to hide you would run and find the perfect hiding spot. You think to yourself they won’t find me here! Then you probably giggled just a little. Now that we are a little older we don’t play those games anymore, but we are still trying to find a good hiding place. There are days when our lives are crashing down around us. Our instinct is to duck and find a safe haven. A place where the things of this life can’t touch us. Yes, there are times when we run to find that perfect hiding place. Where is our hiding place? Where do we escape from the troubles of life? To escape from the pressures of life some people turn to things like alcohol, drugs, or the party scene. Some may turn to a lifestyle that is wild and reckless. Some turn to the television and just mindlessly watch hours of TV. Some people turn to food as a source of comfort. Some just close themselves off hoping nothing can get in. There is a song called “You are my hiding place” and it is performed by the group Selah. It is a song based on Psalm 37:2. In Psalm 37:2, David writes “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” God is our hiding place or at least He should be. Where else can we go when life knocks us down and we feel like we don’t have a friend in the world? Drugs and alcohol are only temporary and they only add to our problems. The party scene can make us forget the problem for a little while but when the party is over the problem is still there. None of the things of this Earth can give us true comfort. The world only offers a temporary fix. Do you want permanent protection? The perfect hiding place from the world? Well God sent His son to die for us and Jesus did this out of love for you. We are never alone because of that act of love. In the scripture we see that not only is God our hiding place but He also surrounds us with songs of deliverance! Can you hear the music? Can you feel your confidence growing? Is your fear diminishing? Have your troubles just gotten a little smaller? When we rest in God’s loving, protective arms we rest knowing that all is well because we are in the best hiding place ever!

…FROM THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE Greetings everyone, On January 29th, 2017 we had our first meeting of the year. With this new year, Julie Norris respectfully stepped down as CE chairman after years of faithful service. Nikki Mongan and Chris Mohler have taken on this role of Chairperson, acting as Co-chairs. The committee will be meeting monthly to ensure a smooth transition in welcoming new committee members and to be sure all CE needs are being met. We will be meeting every 4th Sunday of the month at 4:30 p.m. Our next meeting is March 26th.

With Blessings, Chris Mohler and Nikki Mongan

KIDS CLUB Greetings, Over the past few weeks, Kids Club has been working on completing an awesome lesson plan called “Shaken” by Tim Tebow. Throughout the course of the lesson, the kids have learned some real life lessons on how to handle some real life issues, such as how to be yourself and not following the crowd just because It's the popular thing to do, how to be a friend and how to treat your friends, and how God has a plan for us even though we may not see it now. We start out all of our meetings with activity time such as kickball, basketball, and most recently Minute To Win It games. All of our meetings are closed in prayer by the kids. We have a prayer request board and thankful prayer board. Currently we have a waiting list for kids who want to do the closing prayer, and frankly that's awesome. We are getting ready for our second party of the year. Our first party was a pizza and pancake party as requested by the kids, and our next party, which was held on Sunday, February 19th, a pizza and hotdog party. We currently have 16 kids signed up for Kids Club and we opened up the age group for grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Every week we have a show and tell time that's open to everyone. To date we have seen everything from a 1980s He-Man collection, baby dolls, Shopkins, old candy wrappers, and Chapstick. Teresa and I are very grateful for the opportunity to spend a few hours each week with these kids. As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. My email address is [email protected] and my cell is 301-524-7728.

With Blessings, Chris and Teresa Mohler
