Seller InsightThere is so much to admire about this fabulous, three storey, family home, from its enviable setting on the edge of the pretty village of Sutton Valence, its tradition and character, to the impressive renovation and extension undertaken by its present owner.
The pretty village contains a good range of amenities which includes a primary school, plus a renowned Prep School. Close by is Headcorn for a wider choice of shops such as a fishmonger and a bakery, together with several restaurants and other eating establishments. After much searching for a traditional property, we arrived at Brook Cottage along a private driveway, through its woodland setting and, before we stepped inside the house, we knew it would our future home. Although strikingly beautiful, it was in quite a sorry state of repair and a three month, intensive, project was undertaken, amongst which included many essential, practical, tasks. It was quite exhilarating and fulfilling to bring the house back to life and, whilst ensuring that our new home contained modern day luxuries and comforts, we were extremely careful to ensure that the unique character of the house remained intact. A large extension was added later which, together with its sympathetic design, and being constructed of green oak, blends in perfectly with the older part of the house. The cottage has been an outstanding family home, plus it has been one to share with friends and family for numerous happy occasions.
The main reception room, with its open timbers and beams has always been special. With its convenient flow through to the dining and kitchen space, it is perfect when entertaining. It becomes especially beautiful at Christmastime when the beams are adorned and a huge fire is aglow in the beautiful inglenook fireplace. The space and flexibility of the house make entertaining friends and family so easy. Whether it is supper parties for ten, or informal drinks parties for large groups, such occasions have always been very successful. Gatherings in the summertime when everyone can spill out onto the patio to enjoy the garden and its surroundings are always special.
Set on this large acreage, there is certainly a unique woodland atmosphere prevailing. In addition there is the lovely meadow, all of which enhance the joys of living here. The garden contains many special trees which do include ancient, magnificent apple trees which still produce delicious fruit.
Living here has been joyful and happy. I do feel quite proud in the accomplishment of giving back the house its life once more and am passionate about its unique period characteristics. I have adored its setting and surroundings but it is now time for another family to enjoy living here.*
