BromoChilling by night, dusty by day

    Preface:

I have been to Bromo for quite some time,

but the mystical aura is never make youbored to get there if you had a chance. Es-pecially during my grown up age, there areseveral new place that I never been to when

I went there as a child or as an adolescent.Last time I explore Bromo, on the year of2000, I only explore the sunrise view spotand the crater. For this trip, we have been

scheduled to explore the area not just thecrater.

BaluranThey call it Africa of Indonesia

    Preface:

Having a no expectation whether is it true or

not this place is similar to the Africa or not,Baluran is one of our exciting place becauseof its enormous area, the mountain, the va-riety of plants and animal, the beach, and

    o course, the savannah.

When the me passing the midday, aer we

packed our stu, we were ready to le Bromo

to go to Baluran Naonal Park. It took 6 hours

ride because the track is merely a half of the

East Java area. We arrived a lile bit late, but

we could manage to take a picture of the sun-

set behind the Mount Baluran. Approximately

250 km2 wide, the Baluran consist of moun-

    tain, forest, savannah, and shores.

We headed to the villa near the shoreline of

Bama beach for resng and re-charge energy

for tomorrow acvies. During the short stay,

we manage to do some indoor acvies and

star trail hunng photo. Although the result

was quite unsased because there are some

light illuminaon blocking the star lights.

In the next morning, before dawn we start to

hunt a sunrise photo. Aer the sun is risen,we had two morning acvies which are bird

hunng and mangrove forest trekking. With

its vast collecons of ora and fauna, we can

see several local animal in here such as Mon-

key, Deer, Bull, Bualo, Eagle, and even a Leop-

ard. But unfortunately, it was very dicult to

take pictures of them especially if we dont

have telephoto lenses. They were so sensive

about any human movement and they run

fast. Monkeys are everywhere so they were

the only animal photo we have been taken.

Before noon, having enough bath and lunch,

we headed to the savannah of Baluran. During

that me, we knew why this place called the

Africa of Java because most of the land part

is dry savannah with high temperatures. Event

they had a memorabilia of Bull Skulls placed

near the sandy roadway to take more the hype

    of Africa.

There are several locaon to explore in here

from the small forest area, the savannah it-

self, and the watch tower to see the savannah

from above. If the sky is clear enough, we can

see the Bali Island in the distance, not quite

far from Bama beach. To take the picture of

the savannah is not hard as long as we un-

derstand what is the best part in the area canbe pictured in one image. The most common

composion is you have to take one image

with have the mountain as a background, the

savannah as the main object and one idencal

    tree to summarize it all.

Aside of the above, we went there in the dry

season, there was a one spot inside Baluran

area that are so unique in visually. Because of

the strong wind and lots of dry leaf, the area is

ammable. There are some areas that have

several trees and plants burned. The burned

eects made the forest looks like an autumn

forest. I guess this is just another Baluran

way to mimicking overseas scenery, the Af-

    rica and the Europe.

    Preface:

After National Geographic post an article

about one of two Crater in the world thatstill has a blue ame, Kawah Ijen is becomeworldly famous. There are many interna-tional tourist curious about Kawah Ijens

blue ame. We are too, curious about it andcouldnt wait to see it for ourselves.

Kawah Ijen is our third and last place to visit

but we were assured it will be like saving the

best for last. The trip to the mountain area

started by aernoon from Baluran Naonal

Park and it took 3 hours drive to go there. It

is a mountain area so as it has a mesmerizingview during the trip, especially we arrived at

the area right before the sun is set. Before we

stopped at the hotel, we have some me to

take a quick walk to a small waterfall near the

road. The waterfall was quite unique because

the water from the river is green. Perhaps its

contain a sulfur acid from the crater. By fall

we arrived to the Hotel to take some spring

water bath and a rest before trekking in the

    morning.

Around 1 AM we headed to the Kawah Ijen

and scheduled to take a trekking for about 2hours to the crater. We had not expected the

track is steep and took our breath so deeply

to escalade to the crater. Our team divided

into three teams, based on our capability in

breath and carrier. During the walk some-

mes we felt give up to the steep climb but

the me is ck faster. Our willpower to see

the blue ame beaten the feeling.

Two hours later we arrived into to two inter-

secons. We had a doubt which path should

we went to. A bit lucky we ask some people

who already went to the crater and told us to

take the down way not the up way, because

the up way is for the sunrise spot. Another

unexpected thing was the trek is much moresteep and dangerous than the trek before. It

was so dark, sandy, and there are no proper

pathways. With the blue ame in mind, we

climb down to the crater. Although the crater

is sll far away, it was look so astonishing and

stunned us for a moment. The blue ame are

outstanding from around the dark of the cra-

ter. The me is so limited to reach to the blue

ame before sunrise, because when the sun

risen up the blue ame could not be seen. Af-

ter the me showed around 4.30 AM, we de-

cided to sat down and set our tripod to take apicture of the blue ame from there. Although

its sll for about a quarter way to go down,

we knew that the me is not enough to climb

down. Aer we set the camera, take some pic-

tures, by only for about half an hour, the sun

rose, and the blue ame became a transpar-

ent combusted hot gas. Thank God, We had

a several shots of the blue ame with good

    amount of lights exposure.

It was not that easy to capture the blue

ame. Standard rules to capture an object in

a completely dark surroundings are use the

long exposure or risen up the ISO sengs.

Both of this way have their own drawbacks.

When we us high ISO, depending on yourcamera, it will creates noise eect and it wil l

ruin the visual because the noise will have

similar look with the sand. If we use the long

exposure, the challenging part is the smoke

from the ame. Depending on the wind, and

perhaps luck, the smoke can make all the

picture looks white or could dramazed it.

During our break me aer the long trek we

had, we realized that the miner already went

go and back for several mes. One of them

told us that they already doing the prepara-

on for the acvity since 3 Am in the morn-ing and will be nishing the digging around

3 PM in the aernoon. They must do the

digging job for that long hours because of

the target they have from the employer. But

they seems happy because some of the tour-

ist are generous with them, especially when

the tourist want to take a picture of them.

Aer the sun rose a bit higher, we decided

to climb up and down again to go back to

the meeng point. During the walk, we can see

the morning haze surfaced up the scenery and

we just realized that we were already walking

above the clouds. We took some great picture

of the mountains surrounded by the clouds

and some morning acvies of the locals suchas people bearing the sulfur rocks.

It was a great trip, vis ing three gorgeous plac-

es in East Java and having a great pictures to

share. Indonesia, there are plenty places need

to be seen. Hopefully before the feet cannot

walk anymore, we already seen another great

    view.
