Brock Industrial Neighbourhood
The Brock Industrial Neighbourhood is bounded by the hydro transmission corridor to the west, Highway 401 to the north, the Ajax-Pickering municipal boundary to the east, and the Lake Ontario shoreline to the south. The total area of the neighbourhood is 7.85 square kilometres, and includes significant open space lands associated with the Duffins Creek and the Ontario Lake shoreline, and a waterfront trail.
Historically, an Iroquois village existed near the mouth of the
Duffins Creek. Although the 1991 census year recorded a
residential population of 130 people, the residential population
continued to decline with the majority displaced for expansion of
the Duffins Creek Water Pollution Control Plant. Consequently, no
population has been recorded for the neighbourhood in the 2011
Census year. The few detached dwellings remaining along Bayly
Street have been converted into business offices.

Industrial development in this area commenced in the 1960’s,
coincident with the construction of the Pickering Nuclear
Generating Station. Today, Brock Industrial is the City’s main
industrial district. It accommodates both the Pickering Nuclear
Generating Station and the Duffins Creek Water Pollution Control
Plant, and boasts over 808, 000 square metres of industrial floor
space dedicated to manufacturing uses, warehousing, research
and development, offices and supportive personal service and
retail uses. Brock Industrial is also home to four places of worship,
an indoor skating arena on Dillingham Road, and an indoor soccer
dome on Clements Road.

This brochure provides information on the Brock Industrial
Neighbourhood population and social characteristics, derived
from census data by Statistics Canada. Statistics Canada
completes a census of the Canadian population every five
years. This brochure will be updated and/or revised as new
census data becomes available.
The 1991 Census Long Form questionnaire and the 2011
National Household Survey are based on sample surveys of the
population. The 1991 Census Long Form questionnaire was
mandatory while the 2011 National Household Survey was
voluntary. Due to this change in methodology, the 2011 data
may be subject to underreporting or response bias. In certain
instances where survey responses are limited, data may be
suppressed resulting in the data not being published.
