Professional Development Workshops

• Aim at increasing the capacity of delegates to implement and advocate for effective, evidence informed HIV policies and interventions in their respective communities and countries

• The AIDS 2014 workshop programme is grouped into three broad areas:– Scientific Development: collaborative learning around the

latest scientific research, emerging technologies and breakthroughs in policy and programme

– Leadership & Accountability Development: new and current leaders share best practices for enhancing accountability

– Community Skills Development: building skills and capacity in relation to peer-driven programmes and services

What can you find at your AIDS 2014 Global Village?

• The Global Village is a diverse, dynamic and vibrant community driven space where people from all over the world gather to meet, share and learn from each other in the global response to HIV.

• It’s a space which provides an opportunity to bridge the areas of science, leadership and community through shared dialogue and action.

• Free to members of the public, as well as conference delegates, the Global Village is a space for around 220 activities

AIDS 2014 Youth Programme• The Youth Pavilion is based in the Global Village and

is the hub for youth related activities at the conference

• Young people are central to shaping the next

generation’s response to HIV.

• The youth pavilion provides space for sessions,

workshops, networking and the youth positive lounge

• Youth related sessions are held throughout the whole

conference programme

• Youth Pre-conference is a two-day conference for

young delegates; offers a space where young people

can network, strategize, and learn from one another;

and provide an orientation to the main conference for

effective participation and advocacy. The Youth Pre-

Conference is organized by the Melbourne Youth Force

(MYF), in collaboration with the Youth Programme at

AIDS 2014.

AIDS 2014 Global Village and Youth Programme Activities

Global Village Sessions• Feature panel discussions, debates, presentations with opportunities for Q&A and meeting the

experts• Sessions will focus on current and emerging HIV related topics, as well as priority populations

Networking Zones• Spaces for local and international groups which focus on thematic areas central to key

populations• In these zones, groups can meet and conduct their own activities and engage delegates and the

public visiting the Global VillageMain Stage• A space for live performances of music, dance and theatre that address issues in the context of

either: HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sexual and reproductive health, TB/HIV co-infection, stigma and discrimination and human rights

• It plays a significant role in showcasing innovative and dynamic visual expressions of HIV work at the grass roots community level

Screening Room• A space to screen films about HIV related issues, including human rights

Meeting Rooms• Available for small informal discussions and can be booked in advance

Youth Pavilion• Main networking space for young people• It is a space to host meetings and forums, showcase achievements of young people, facilitate

networking opportunities, engage participants in dialogue and build on the momentum from the youth pre-conference

NGO and Marketplace Booths• Showcase the work of international HIV programmes• Marketplace booths provide HIV related non-government organizations and projects with an

opportunity to sell their products to generate income for reinvestment into HIV programming

Art Exhibits• Including sculpture, installations, photos and paintings about HIV issues expressed from the

grassroots level

Community Dialogue Space• Hosted by Red Ribbon Award recipients which celebrates community leadership and action on

AIDS• It is a space in which conference delegates and the general public can engage with community-

based and grassroots HIV organizations from around the world• It aims to influence key events and the outcomes of the conference through interactive

discussions and stories about some of the victories and challenges faced by communities on the frontline

Visa process to enter Australia

• All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa before boarding their plane regardless of the length of stay

• Visit the website of the Australian embassy/consulate in your country as soon as possible to learn about the specific Australian immigration processes and timing that will apply to them

• Apply for the visa at least two months before travelling to Australia (i.e. mid-May 2014)

• The conference organizers are working with the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship on visa processes for delegates

• Conference hubs are “mini conferences” held in conjunction with AIDS 2014 by any organizations active in the AIDS response – no approval process is required.

• Sessions from the international AIDS conference are recorded free of charge and can be screened at organizers’ discretion

• Conference hubs may also feature workshops or training in addition to the conference sessions

• May be hosted at the same time as or after AIDS 2014
