BRIDGNORTH LIVESTOCK MARKET WEEKLY REPORT – 15.09.20 113 PRIME CATTLE Auctioneer – Mark Burgoyne 07831 192603 Numbers very tight once again with last week’s flying trade not pulling cattle forward. Producers were no doubt working hard in their fields completing harvesting and getting on planting whilst dry weather persists. Fresh faces around the ring to buy once again. Not quite the overall quality of last week met a fair trade as long as the cattle were well finished. There were some leaner sorts which would have benefitted from further feeding. A great steer entry with an overall average to match. Best suckler bred continuously sold to 255p/kg with six making past 240p/kg. Heavy steers to £1575 in the lump. Heifers a little more mixed this week sold to a higher ceiling, with two handy weight Limousins to 271p/kg. 19 females realised 240p/kg or above. Fewer heavy end heifers forward sold to £1458 in the lump. Bull trade was sharp with a new buyer in this section. Handy weights sold to 224p/kg with heavy bulls to 220p/kg or to £1513 in the lump. Black and White bulls were ‘on fire’ selling to 186p/kg and many more Holsteins are needed each week. 9 COWS SOLD TO OV.AV 93p/KG No best cows forward today with more plain dairies in attendance. Blue cross cows sold to 116p/kg with Limousin crosses to 114p/kg. Best meat Friesians also sold to 114p/kg for 716kg. The steam is definitely out of the cow trade at the moment. 74 CLEAN CATTLE 19 STEERS FORWARD SOLD TO OV. AV. 221P/KG A cracking run of Angus crosses from Mulberry Homes sold from 233p/kg to 255p/kg, with 618kg Limousins to 245p/kg. 496kg sold to 244p/kg from Andrew Bishop, with 594kg to 240p/kg from Edward Howells. 716kg Limousin crosses sold to £1575.20 from Chris and Gordon Jones. 55 HEIFERS SOLD TO OV. AV. 226P/KG Super Limmies from Andrew Bishop sold to 271p/kg for 512kg and 484kg, with Richard Fenton’s run selling to 256p/kg for 512kg. 490kg British Blues sold to 258p/kg from Rob & Peter Hartley with Evans (Curdale) selling to 256p/kg and 257p/kg x 2. 594kg Blues sold to £1407.28 from Edward Howells once again. 39 BULLS SOLD TO OV.AV 190P/KG Many more bulls were needed on recent trades, with Friesian/Holstein in very short supply. Howard and Colin Frith’s homebred run sold to 224p/kg for 528kg Limousins with British Blues from the Hartley stable selling to 220p/kg at 550kg. Heavy Limmies 656kg sold nicely for James Woolrich at 220p/kg with his 714kg Limousin adding up to £1513.68.
