IndicationsALLEVYNGentleBorderisindicatedforwoundmanagementbysecondaryintentiononshallow,granulatingwounds,chronicandacuteexudativewounds,fullandpartialthicknesswoundssuchaspressureulcers,diabeticfootulcers,legulcers,fungatingwounds,infectedwounds,malignantwounds,surgicalwounds,donorsites,skintearsand1stand2nddegreeburns

ApplicationCleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures. Select appropriatedressingsize.ALLEVYNAgGentleBordercanbecuttodresswoundsontheheel,elbowsandotherawkwardareas.Alwaysuseacleantechniquewhencuttingthedressing.Prepareandcleantheskinsurroundingthewoundareaandremoveexcessmoisture.Anyexcesshairshouldbeclippedtoensurecloseapproximationtothewound.Removeoneoftheprotectorfilmsandanchortheadhesivesideofthedressingtotheskin.Removetheremainingprotectorfilmandsmooththedressingovertheremainderofthewoundwithoutstretching,ensuringtherearenocreases.Thepadareaofthedressingmustbeadheredacrosstheentiresurfaceofthewound.ThedressingcanbeliftedandrepositionedwithoutlosingitsadherentpropertiesIfthedressinghasbeencutensureanyexposedfoamareasarecoveredwithanappropriatefilmdressingtakingcarenottocovertheentiredressing.

Frequency of changeDuringtheearlystagesofwoundmanagementALLEVYNAgGentleBordershouldbeinspectedaccordingtolocalclinicalprotocol.Wherethe product is used on infected wounds the infection should be inspectedandtreatedasperlocalclinicalprotocol.Dressingscanbeleftinplaceforupto7days,exceptthesacralareawheredressingscanbeleftinplaceforupto5days,dependingontheconditionofthewoundandthesurroundingskinoruntilexudateisvisibleandapproachestowithin0.5cmoftheedgeofthedressingpad,whicheverissooner.Thedecisionofwhentochangeshouldbedependentuponclinicalassessment and local protocols should also be taken into consideration.

Dressing RemovalToremoveALLEVYNAgGentleBorder,liftonecornerofthedressingandslowlypeelbackuntilcompletelyremovedfromthewound.

Contra-indications•DonotuseonpatientsknowntobehypersensitivetoSSDorsulfonamides•Assulfonamidesareknowntocausekernicterus,ALLEVYNAgGentleBordershouldnotbeusedonfemaleswhoareat,ornearfull-termpregnancy,orlactating,oronprematureandnewborninfantsduringthefirstmonthsoflife.

Precautions• Forexternaluseonly.•DonotuseALLEVYNAgGentleBorderwithoxidizingagentssuchashypochloritesolutions(e.g.EUSOL)orhydrogenperoxide,asthesecanbreakdowntheabsorbentpolyurethanecomponentofthedressing

•ALLEVYNAgGentleBordermaynotbecompatiblewithtopicalantimicrobials.•Intheeventofclinicalinfection,topicalsilverdoesnotreplacetheneedforsystemictherapyorotheradequateinfectiontreatment.

•Incommonwithalladhesiveproductsirritationand/ormacerationoftheskinsurroundingthewoundmay.occur.Ifreddeningorsensitisationoccur,discontinue use, and consult a healthcare professional.

•Itshouldbenotedthatinappropriateuseortoofrequentdressingchanges,particularlyonpatientswithfragileskinmayresultinskinstripping.

•AvoidcontactwithelectrodesorconductivegelsduringelectronicmeasurementssuchasEEG(Electroencephalogram)andECG(Electrocardiogram).

•WhenALLEVYNAgGentleBorderisusedonapatientduringMRI(MagneticResonanceImaging)somewarmingmaybeexperienced.

•ALLEVYNAgGentleBorderisnotcompatiblewithoilbasedproductssuchaspetrolatum.

•ALLEVYNAgGentleBorderisnotsuitableforusealoneoncavitywoundsbutmaybeusedovercavitywoundsasasecondarydressing.

•AswithallproductscontainingSSDthefollowingprecautionsshouldbenoted,especiallywhencoveringalargesurfaceareawiththedressing:

-Usecautioninpatientswithsignificanthepaticorrenalimpairment, -Usecautioninindividualsknowntohaveglucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenasedeficiency,

-Effectsofsystemicallyadministereddrugsmaybealtered.Thiscanespeciallyapplytooralhypoglycaemicagentsandtophenytoin.Inthecaseofthesedrugs,itisrecommendedthatbloodlevelsshouldbemonitoredastheir effect can be potentiated.
