MAKING DISCIPLES AS WE GO

BOTSCRU Maun Outreach January 4th-10th, 2014

Fourteen students and 6 staff of Campus Crusade for Christ Botswana from the University of Botswana traveled to Maun on a mission trip, and partnered with Love Botswana from January 4 – 10, 2014. During this trip the students and staff engaged in training of the first part of Module 1 of the Great Commission Ministry Training and were able to show the Jesus Film as well as share the gospel door to door in two local communities.

Each morning began with a prayer time followed by one of the students leading the group devotion. Taffy Chifamuna, National Director of Campus Crusade for Christ Botswana, and the 4 STINTers (Melissa Messer, Rachel Hrovat, Gikuyu Nderitu, and Brandt Hey) lead the students in the various areas of the GCMT (Great Commission Movement Training) training. The students remained attentive and inquisitive throughout the week as they were trained on various aspects of the great commission and how it applies to them in their walk with Christ as they pursue making disciples. inquisitive throughout the week as they were trained on various aspects of the great commission and how it applies to them in their walk with Christ as they pursue making disciples. The students were particularly interested during the topics of being filled by the Holy Spirit and walking in His power on a daily basis. Many good questions were asked and some great discussion resulted from the student’s questions.

The staff team was also able to demonstrate how to engage in spiritual conversation with a non-believer by going through the “Four Spiritual Laws” booklet. The students enjoyed watching the role play and then taking turns practicing initiating and leading conversations themselves.

In Maun we saw 31 people

Sehitwa 53 gave their lives to

gathered from all those who

surrendered their lives to Christ

and given to the Village Church

so that they can follow up with

these new believers.

We were able to show the Jesus Film in both Maun and in Sehitwa, a village about 1 ½ hours West of Maun. In both instances we partnered with the Village Church during the outreach. In Maun, we showed the Jesus Film in the gotla (village center) of the village that was not far from the Love Botswana grounds. During these outreaches the students learned how to set up the equipment for the Jesus Film and were challenged to give their testimonies in front of large crowds as well as invite all in attendance to give their lives to Christ at the conclusion of the film.

There were about 100 people in attendance in for the film and 20 dedicated their lives to Christ in Maun.

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel…”

The final day of the trip the group spent time relaxing, debriefing and reflecting on all that the Lord had done over the previous days. We were able to take a nice traditional boat ride (called mokoro) in the Okavango Delta and even jumped overboard to swim in the water. For most members of the group this was their first time swimming or seeing the Delta, even though they have lived in Botswana their whole lives and have read about this place since they were small children. It was the perfect way to end the trip.

God worked in a mighty way in Maun and the students and staff are all excited to continue to share the gospel as the semester begins.

In Sehitwa, we showed the Jesus Film on the grounds of the Village Church and over 200 people came to watch the film. 11 dedicated their lives to Christ.

Our whole team also split up into smaller groups to go out sharing the gospel, literally going door to door. This was a powerful time for everyone, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead the conversations and to be bold for Christ. One student shared that she learned that its impossible to convince someone to accept Christ, but rather how powerful the Word of God is and instrumental it is to bringing others to Him!
