Foot PedalNotes on the piping and commissioning

General remarks:Only brake fluid as specified in SAE J-1703e and DOT3 /DOT4 may be used. The use of even slight additions ofhydraulic fluid or other mineral oils (residues in uncleanpipework) leads in every case to the destruction of theseal elements and invalidates any guarantee granted bythe manufacturer.

1) Master CylinderThis cylinder may only be installed in a horizontal position, with connection on top for the expansionvessel (swivelling screw fitting). The high-pressurehose to the expansion vessel must not be kinkeddownwards but must be laid in a constantly ascendingmanner.

When actuated, the foot pedal is held by a pressurespring in the ”off”-position against a stop, wherebythere should be about 1 mm play between the plunger(a) and the top of the piston (b). This is to be taken intoconsideration if the factory setting of the stop hasbeen disturbed.

2) Slave Cylinder (Brake)Installation is possible in any position but the air bleedcock must always be arranged at the highest point. The slave cylinder is to be connected to the pressureline by the high-pressure hose supplied to allow movement of the cylinder when the brake is actuated.

3) PipeworkMaterial: Precision pipe as specified in DIN 2391, annealed and descaled. Dimensions dia. 10x1. Pipebends are to be fabricated in a pipe bending device toavoid cross-sectional restrictions. After cutting tosize and before laying, pipe sections are to be thoroughly flushed out (spirit) and blown through.

If possible, pressure lines are to be laid with a slightslope. If air pockets through ascending and descending loops cannot be avoided, a bleeding facility must be provided at the highest point.

4) High-pressure hosesThese hoses must be resistant to brake fluid. Theymust not be painted and are to be shielded from ambient heat.

5) Brake fluidThe brake fluid assures operational reliability downto -40˚C. Depending on the quality, the wet boilingpoint (after water has been absorbed from the air) isbetween 140 and 155˚C.

6) Filling and bleeding of the systema) without filling and bleeding unit

Fill expansion vessel and in the subsequent filling andbleeding operation ensure that there is always sufficient fluid in the vessel by topping up. The airfrom the line to the master cylinder rises automati-cally when the line has been laid correctly. Press thefoot pedal right down on the stop once or twice andwith the pedal fully actuated first bleed the master cylinder. Close the bleeder valve. Then open the valve at the slave cylinder (1-2 turns),fit transparent bleed tube and place other end in a receptacle. Pump foot pedal until air bubbles are nolonger seen. At the same time, check the level of fluidin the ex pansion vessel to ensure that no air can besucked in!Close bleeder valve and actuate brake several timesvia the pedal. Then repeat bleeding procedure. Thefluid pumped through during the bleeding procedureshould not be reused.

b) with filling and bleeding unit (ATE, FAG or similar)Small, moderately priced units are available on themarket which can be connected to the expansionvessel and force the fluid under pressure through thesystem. Through the flexible separation of fluid andcompressed air, the two elements cannot affect eachother. Advantage: The complete procedure can be carriedout by one person only. Filling and bleeding will bequicker, safer and more straight forward. The fillingand bleeding units come with operating instructionswhich must be followed exactly when working withsuch units.

Description Coupling Type K

Four component steel coupling, torsionally elasticand puncture-proof

Main Features

Coupling hubs ready bored and keywayed (preferably acc. to DIN 6885)

Options

Transmission of torque via elastic intermediate ring Coupling hubs tapered bored

Coupling hubs with double keywayReplacement of the elastic intermediate ring or thebrake disc without disturbing any equipment Coupling hubs pilot bored

Coupling balanced according to ISO 1940-Grade: G 6.3

Special material for elastic intermediate ring according to application

Coupling without brake disc

Extensive selection of coupling sizes and brakedisc diameters to satisfy most braking and drive requirements

Arrangement of the brake disc on the load side toallow the brake torque to be maintained when themotor is disengaged

The design of these couplings makes them parti-cularly suitable in machinery subjected to high dynamic stress.

Damping of peak torques and vibrations as well aselectrical insulation between motor and gearboxare further reasons for the use of this coupling type.

The standard material of the elastic intermediatering (Vk60D, polyurethane) is suitable for a temp-erature range of -30˚C...+60˚C.

Technical Data:

The operating status of the brake is indicated by red and green LEDs mounted in an electronic enclosure with a transparent cover. A push button is mounted atop the enclosure which flashes to indicate out-of-tolerance situations, and is also used to light all LEDs for test purposes.

As an option, a signal light or alarm can be connected to the 10 amp dry contact included with the system.(e.g. in the operators cab)

If the monitored brake parameters are within tolerance, all green LEDs will light. In case of an out-of-tolerance parameter, the respective green LED goes off, and the opposite red LED starts flashing.

If in the meantime the indicated failure has been remedied, e. g. through a temperature reduction at the brake pads, both the red and the green LED flash by turns. Pushing the red flash light button will cancel the failure indication and all LED´s will reset to green again.

PINTSCH BUBENZER disc brakes of the SB8, SB14, SB23 and SB28 series may be additionally equipped with theVSR-kit. The brake pads and the thruster will then be fitted with the respective sensors. The electronic box will be fitted to the spring tube of the brake. The outline dimensions of the brake will not be affected by the additionalVSR kit. (VSR for hydraulic caliper brakes / drum brakes upon request)

In response to the on-going requirement to simplify the maintenance of industrial brakes and at the same time to increase their operational safety, PINTSCH BUBENZER offers a retrofitable, compact electronic status indicationsystem to be integrated into the brake as an additional safety kit.

Description CMB

Please Note

All these readings are logged by the CMB unit and transmitted for visualization. Visualization of sensor output can be provided by a stand-alone PCsystem or by combining the CMB with an existing crane operating / visualization system (e.g. via Interbus S).

Following measurings points supply information on the brake status:

Measuring points

Actuator stroke

Contact force

An analog stroke sensor measures all strokes of the actuator

An analog DMS pin measures the contact force of the brake shoes

By the DMS measuring pin

By calculation with the measured forces

Two analog PT100 sensors measuring the temperature of both linings

Two binary wear contacts indicating lining wear

An inductive sensor measures the brake disc speed, needed e.g. for monitoring of the friction coefficient at dynamic emergency stops

Braking force

Effective brake torque

Temperature

Lining wear

Disc speed

A further possibility to increase the operational safety of brakes and decrease the maintenance costs, is thecomputer-monitoring system CMB .

Brake-mounted sensors collect permanent data about several brake parameters to indicate the brake status.

The brake and fault diagnostic report provided by the system and the permanent analysis of the operational status guarantees an efficient preventive brake maintenance program, and enables operations to ensure readiness of the brakes at all times.

Maintenance personnel costs can be reduced while enhancing the safety of the brake systems at the same time.
