“We’ve got our own poster handler who is in charge of getting them to us and getting them signed,” Thomas said in a recent interview. “It’s required, like, its own department.” But, he adds, “This movie would not exist if we had not gone down this path.”

It’s been a year since Thomas sent shockwaves through the movie industry by turning to the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to help finance a movie based on his cultishly adored but short-lived high-school detective series. On Friday, the movie hits theaters and video-on-demand. As the first high-profile celebrity project to drum up money on Kickstarter, “Veronica Mars” is a trailblazer, albeit one with a cloudy legacy.

Thomas has already been followed by projects by Zach Braff (to fund his second directorial effort) and Spike Lee (to raise cash for his latest “joint”). The land rush into a new avenue of funding (a major struggle for most filmmakers) has raised questions about the ethics of fan-based financing. (Contributors pay for different levels of rewards, but don’t share in profits.)

“Veronica Mars” may have introduced a democratic spirit to a green-lighting pro-cess usually controlled by film executives, but it has also opened a Pandora’s box where, critics say, established insiders can take advantage of their loyal followings.

“It’s a brilliant idea that’s gotten out of hand,” ‘’House of Cards” producer Dana

Brunetti recently said at a SXSW panel discussion. “It’s wrong when people like Zach Braff or Spike Lee use that same service to fund their films when they al-ready have access. I think it overshadows and takes away from the little guys who actually need the funding.”

AUSTIN, Texas — Samsung got its money’s worth from Jay Z and Kanye West. Two of rap’s top stars combined for a powerful, hit-filled two-hour show Wednesday night and Thursday morning during South By Southwest, allowing Samsung to steal some of iTunes’ lus-ter at the annual music conference and festival.

Samsung announced the Austin Music Hall show early this week and scheduled the pair at the same time as the iTunes Festival’s hip-hop night that featured Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q at the very nearby ACL Moody Theater. The performance came a few weeks after West called out Apple CEO Tim Cook at a New Jersey concert, telling him to “stop trying to get performers to play your festival for free, you are rich as (expletive).”

Chances are West and Jay Z didn’t play the show for free, but the return on investment wasn’t marginal. The show was one of the most anticipated surround-ing the annual buzz-building gathering and fans with Samsung devices with the company’s new streaming music service, Milk Music, were granted free entry.

Fans lined up several hundred yards around the block before the show with most having little hope of getting in. Those who did — including Odd Future’s

NEW YORK — Rob Thomas knew he might make movie history by using Kickstarter to crowd-fund his “Veronica Mars” film. But he wasn’t prepared for the posters. Of all the prizes offered to donors of “Ve-ronica Mars” — everything from a digital copy of the script for $10 to a walk-on cameo for $10,000 — the most taxing was autographing the cast-signed posters promised to more than 5,000 backers. It took several hand-cramping days and constant shuttling of boxes from one signee to the next.

Tyler, The Creator, who forced his way to the front row to the delight of selfie-snapping fans and spent some of the show crowd surfing — were treated to an energetic performance from two of hip-hop’s biggest stars.

They emerged individually atop two large boxes stationed on the stage and in the crowd — West wearing his trademark leather kilt and Jay Z in a black American flag t-shirt — and began the show near the rafters. They played selections from their “Watch the Throne” collaboration throughout, including “No Church in the Wild,” ‘’... in Paris,” ‘’Who Gon Stop

Me” and “Otis” as images of Doberman pinschers, lions and tigers, great white sharks and gazelle-killing cheetahs flashed across a screen that wrapped around the stagebound box.

The pair, who recently announced a partnership between West’s Donda Music and Jay Z’s Roc Nation, each also played hits from their own lengthy catalogs. West, engaged and smiling and even occasion-ally trading high fives with the crowd, performed “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” from his latest album “Yeezus” along with older hits like “Jesus Walks” and “Runaway.”

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Harper hotels are conceptualized as modern ac-commodations, topped off with an infusion of rustic charm and a residential feel. Combining comfort and functionality, Harper’s design concept uses warm, rich colors to offer comfort in every room. Accents of warm autumnal fabrics and soft orange hues promote relax-ation like spiced pumpkin, tangerine and amber, while modern grays create an understated cool elegance.

The new upcoming hotels will open in several popular cities throughout Indonesia. “We are thrilled with the response from the Harper brand following the successful story of Harper Kuta - our first Harper hotel that opened last November in Bali. It was the only brand new hotel to open in the area that was an instant hit, with 84 % occupancy in January despite Kuta bursting with an oversupply of hotel rooms. With this success we are moving forward and gearing up to open another 8 Harper hotels throughout the Archipelago. You can follow the brand’s development at our website: www.HarperHotels.com,” said Norbert Vas, Vice President Sales & Marketing Archipelago International. IBP/Courtesy of Archipelago International

Eight Harper Hotels to open in IndonesiaIBP

JAKArTA - After successfully opening the first Harper Hotel in Kuta, Bali last November, Archipelago International is on track to open another 8 hotels under the expanding Harper brand.

Observation in the field on Wednesday (Mar 12) indicated the atmosphere in Singaraja town was deserted. Leading road sections were only preoc-cupied by vehicles of residents that would like to worship. In addition, the activities in traditional markets, shops and government office were closed for the whole day.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere at graveyard seemed different. From early morning, people began to come to graveyard with relatives and family. One of the graveyards at Bule-leng customary village looked crowded with people who would like to worship. Not only at the graveyard, residents belonging to fighter family also delivered food offerings for the ancestors who were buried in

Bali PostSINGARAJA - Since two days

the rubbish at a number of tem-porary disposals (TPS) has ac-cumulated and is not transported to final landfill. This condition is inevitable because the transport officers employed by the Bule-leng Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (DKP) took day off co-inciding with the Pagerwesi Day, Wednesday (Mar 12). As a result, the volume of waste increased and even ran over to roadside.

Observation of Bali Post last Tuesday indicated that one of the disposal sites filled with rubbish occurred to Galiran hamlet, Bak-tiseraga village, Buleleng. The temporary disposal site is located

right at the cemetery of Baktiser-aga customary village and exactly at the SDN 1 Baktiseraga primary school. Half of the temporary disposal site had been filled with piles of rubbish. However, since it was not transported to landfill, residents were forced to dispose their rubbish outside the disposal site. Rubbish was piling up on sidewalk and spilling onto the road. Aside from being produced by native residents, most rubbish was also generated by migrants who lived in the residential area (BTN) of Baktiseraga village and surrounding areas.

A scavenger, Komang Mar-tiani, said the piling up rubbish happened because the garbage

trucks had not been in operation since Tuesday (Mar 11). She did not know why the trucks did not operate. Usually, the garbage truck arrived at the temporary disposal site at 07:00 a.m. where she was looking for used goods.

As a result, the rubbish con-tinued to increase and perished. Residents who disposed rubbish put the bags on sidewalk and on the street. Even, the volume of rubbish would continue to grow especially on Pagerwesi compared to usual days. “I am looking for junks every day and the truck hauling rubbish has not come within the past two days. By and large, the truck has arrived at 07:00 a.m. and the rubbish does

not spill onto the roadside like this,” she said.

Other than at Baktiseraga vil-lage, the rubbish piled up on the roadside because it had not been transported to landfill as found on Jalan Singaraja-Seririt, precisely at Tukadmungga village, Buleleng. There was not disposal site at this location, but people persisted on disposing rubbish at roadside so it covered up the drain in the south of the road.

The rubbish having piled up from a few days was then burned. People only burned the dry rub-bish. Meanwhile, the wet rubbish was beginning to perish and spread unpleasant scent. “We do not know why the garbage truck does not

transport the rubbish whereas it passes through this area every day. Probably, since there is no disposal site or something else, the rubbish is disposed into the gutter. Since today is holiday the volume of rub-bish increases and the drain cannot hold it,” said a resident.

As observation, the parking lot of the garbage truck owned by the Buleleng Sanitation and Landscaping Agency at Banyun-ing, Singaraja, seemed closed. A number of yellow trucks were parked neatly. Then, the employ-ees were given day-off because it coincided with the Pagerwesi Day. The garbage truck would be back into operation on Thursday morning (Mar 13). (mud)

Celebrate Pagerwesi

Buleleng residents worship at graveyard

The Hindus in Buleleng are celebrating Pagerwesi Day in the graveyard

Bali PostSINGArAJA - Pagerwesi Day in Buleleng is always cel-

ebrated with special ritual like Galungan and Kuningan. Uniquely, on this celebration the townspeople worship at graveyard. This tradition is still preserved so far and not only on Pagerwesi, but also on Galungan and Kuningan where Buleleng residents also put offerings in the form of food oblation (punjung) for their ancestors who have not been cremated yet.

the Curastana Memorial Park, Singaraja.

Before starting the prayers, residents cleaned up first the grave of their family. After that, people put their food of-ferings having been prepared over the grave. There were no priests or higher priests who led the prayers at the graveyard on Pagerwesi, but residents held their worship without the chanting of mantras. Residents conveyed their prayers to the ancestors to invoke bless-ings and well-being on the Pagerwesi. “This tradition has passed through generations and the worship is usually made by family whose members have not been cremated yet. Thus, today they are brought offer-ings to the graveyard,” said of one the residents, Rudi.

After the prayers, people did not directly leave the graveyard, but took a rest at graveyard area. Each people’s group then held a

small party around their family grave. The food offerings having been delivered was then imme-diately eaten out. They were also

mutually exchanging their food, so the familial atmosphere and brotherhood among them was well established. (mud)

And if that wasn’t enough attention-grabbing, Nyong’o had to move seats in order to fit a tardy Rihanna in a fur leather jacket in the Miu Miu front row. Meanwhile, former Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere gave an admirable debut at Louis Vuit-ton attended by Princess Charlene of Monaco, Catherine Deneuve and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

But the ghost of Marc Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton past lurked. Here are details about the last day of the ready-to-wear shows.

LUPITA NYONG’O AND JARED LETO ATTEND PRADA’S MIU MIU SHOW

Even before Jared Leto thanked “my future ex-wife Lupita” in a speech at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, there’s been

Models wear creations as part of Hermes’ ready to wear fall/winter 2014-2015 fashion collec-tion presented in Paris, Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

Lupita Nyong’o and Jared Leto rock Prada’s show

Associated Press Writer

PARIS — Upstaging a Louis Vuitton show is hard, but somehow Miuccia Prada managed it, thanks to Lupita Nyong’o and Jared Leto. The Oscar winning pair — whose exact relationship is the subject of speculation — were both invited by the Italian designer to attend her plastic-wrapped fall-winter Miu Miu show in Paris.

speculation that he and fellow supporting role Oscar winner Lu-pita Nyong’o have been an item. The “12 Years a Slave” actress has laughed it off — most notably on The Ellen Show — but has not denied it.

Now, to further fan the flames, both stars were at Paris’ Miu Miu show at the same time — and both nursing jet lag. Nyong’o, who said she “really liked the show,” looked radiant in a clean Miu Miu jacket with an off-white sparkling embroidered collar.

But Leto wore shades and admitted he was exhausted. “But it’s the best kind of tired you could ever imagine,” he said, avoiding comment on the rela-tionship rumors.

MIU MIU’S SPORTY PLASTIC WRAP

With a pinch of irony, Senora Prada wrapped the entire show venue — Paris’ Environmental Council — in non-biodegradable plastic. It was full of young, fun and colorful suggestions on how to keep warm and dry during fall and winter. See-through pale blue PVC skirts came alongside a bright yellow raincoat with sporty tassels.

Or waterproof sheer red hook-er boots that somehow remained classy were mixed up with skiing shades and quilted pastel ski jack-ets. Not all the looks worked, but there were some great black and white fur maxi coats. Besides, you have to admire this iconic designer’s talent. Who else could mix a classic pale yellow pleated silk skirt 1950s with a multicol-ored see-through anorak and still make it work?

LOUIS VUITTON DEBUT

With a soundtrack featuring cat “meows” and lyrics such as “my fangs are sharp like barbs,” was Ghesquiere second-guessing reactions to his show? As it hap-pens there shouldn’t be too many claws out since the former Balen-ciaga designer did quite well. It was a saleable collection, but his debut at Louis Vuitton was by no means a triumph.

After a start that felt a little un-developed, or lacking in energy, the 42-year-old found his voice in a great series of sometimes sparkling miniskirt silhouettes channeling the end of the Sixties or the early Seventies.

It’s a style one fashion editor described as neo-Mod: A-line minis, a cinched waist with leather belt and strap pointing down like a tie, alongside a V-shaped 70s collar. This muse produced the best look: a sexy, clean-looking navy and black mini dress with blue suede panels on the bust and riding boots.

A strange feeling pervaded

the understated show — perhaps it was because the memory of Marc Jacobs’ theatrical fashion spectacles was still very much on peoples’ minds. After all, Jacobs spent 16 years at the house, and his shows are — quite literally — a hard act to follow.

CHLOE SEVIGNY IS FRIENDS WITH GHESQUIERE

Indie actress and fashion dar-ling Chloe Sevigny catches up with her old friend Ghesquiere every time she’s in Paris, even if it’s just by SMS. She said she loved his debut Louis Vuitton show, a simple spectacle that fea-tured giant shutters that opened up to let in natural light.

“It was pure artistry and ef-fortless. He doesn’t need all the pomp and ceremony. He can let the clothes do the talking,” she told The Associated Press.

Under Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton’s displays earned a repu-tation for being, along with Chanel’s, the biggest and costli-est in town.

Responding to such conditions, the academician Ida Bagus Putu Astina said on Wednesday (Mar 12) the fate of farmers should be rescued and their welfare had to be improved. If this matter was not under-taken, the number of farmers in Bali would be diminishing and the farmland formerly fertile and green finally turned into residen-tial area or tourist accommodation.

“The leaders of Bali, both at provincial and county level must respond to it. In addi-tion, they (the leaders) must also be able to innovate to generate the farming activities in Bali,” added Astina.

He hoped the leaders could make in-novations such as looking for solution for paddy fields currently experiencing water shortage at nine subak areas in North and East Denpasar. Government coordination in the provincial and county level should be intensified, especially regarding the fate of farmers. If the coordination had been done well, the current condition would not happen where thousands of hectares of paddy fields were at risk of drying out. Meanwhile, farmers could only surrender.

“Suppose the leaders make innovation, the activity of farmers will not vacant. For example, farmers must be nurtured or trained to grow other commodities such as corn and others. Although they cannot harvest rice, there are still other commodi-ties to be produced,” he said.

On that account, he hoped the leaders of Bali had the spirit of entrepreneurship. If they had, various innovations could be done to save the farmers. The leader as an

executor should have such a spirit because the official as the head of the agency did not dare make policy. By all means, the policies applied should be siding with farmers.

“For example, the government can team up with investors engaging in the agricul-ture or plantations. This is certainly a very positive step for farmers. In addition, they can meet local needs and if possible, they can also supply to need of other regions. Now, there is no such kind of leader,” said the academician from Tabanan.

Moreover, the current basic needs of Balinese society remained to depend on other regions. As a result, the price of the needs was increasingly more expensive because it was supplied from Java and other regions. “Please do not focus on tour-ism only! People’s economy must also be worked on maximally. Thus, the farmers in Bali can live prosperously,” he said.

According to the lecturer from the Fac-ulty of Agriculture, Udayana University, I Putu Sudiarta, Ph.D., the government assis-tance to farmers was quite good. However, it should be completed from the upstream to downstream. “Do not be partially assisted because very much assistance is sluggish,” he added.

He hoped the agriculture should be taught from an early age and needed to be inserted into the school curriculum. In ad-dition, many strategies could be undertaken to foster people’s interest in the agriculture. “All these things could be achieved if we want to do them. All parties must be caring and supportive to the agriculture in Bali,” said Sudiarta. (rah)

Bali PostSINGARAJA - The Head of

Buleleng Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), Gede Suyasa, said the airport construction plan in North Bali having been presented by PT Pembangunan Bali Mandiri (PT PBM) was a submission of chronological condition to the draft of the feasibility study. According to them, the results of feasibility study determined one of the airport construction site (Kubutambahan —Ed), but in the level of Bali Prov-ince his party was still waiting for a small team related to the airport construction plan in North Bali es-tablished by the Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika.

“It has not resulted in a decision. Even, when we attended a meeting with the Bali Province, they (team of the province—Ed) may also have a feasibility study in other region outside Kubutambahan, such as in West Buleleng,” he said.

According to Suyasa, Buleleng County was still awaiting the re-sults of the most possible feasibility study which would be made into a recommendation by the small team of the province related to the airport construction plan in North Bali to be submitted to the regional leader. “Up to this moment, there has been no certainty about the airport construc-tion plan in Kubutambahan. What presented by PT PBM was just the

results of the study on spatial order, geology up to the total plan of the airport construction,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the presentation before the Regent of Buleleng Putu Agus Suradnyana, Deputy Regent of Buleleng Nyoman Sutjidra and regional working units (SKPD), the Director of PT Pembangunan Bali Mandiri Nur Achmad Hasan explained last Saturday (Mar 3) that his party was still selecting many investors that had come to PT PBM and would like to establish a consortium. Some of the investors wishing to work on the project included the Kuala Lumpur Inter-national Airport (KLIA), Aéroports de Paris from France and company

from China.“Many companies are interested

in making cooperation for the air-port development project in North Bali. They got information and are interested. They (entrepreneurs—Ed) have come to the Transportation Agency and if indeed wishing to participate in Bali, they can contact to PT PBM as the initiator,” he explained.

Hasan Achmad explained that selection process was intensively carried out to the companies that would participate. His party wanted to know the projection of the countries such as Korea, Malaysia and China to France. “There is no problem for the investors to make

cooperation. First thing first, their need was the certainty regarding the airport location. Secondly, it must be provided with land. Oth-erwise, the airport project will not run. All stakeholders must support if they want to go forward,” he explained.

He added the airport construc-tion itself required the land area of 500 hectares. However, private sector was impossible to build an airport only, there should be sup-porting commercial facilities with the area up to 1,000 hectares. “Sup-porting commercial facilities can include warehouse, logistics and other airport supporting facilities,” he added. DENPASAR - Various problems are faced by farmers in Bali and make them bear the burden alone. They are ranging from water short-age, expensive fertilizer to prices of crop that do not match their ex-pectation. They are some of the factors causing many farmers to shift profession or even sell their farmland.

TIME OF DISAPPEARANCEMalaysia Airlines initially said

the Boeing 777 lost contact with air traffic control at 2:40 a.m. after about two hours in the air. It later said contact was lost at 1:30 a.m., as data on flight tracking websites had been showing. The incorrect time report led to speculation the flight had crashed somewhere be-

tween Vietnam and China.

DID THE FLIGHT TURN BACK?The government said on the day

of the plane’s disappearance that there were indications it attempted to turn back, but didn’t say what they were. After days of confusion and suggestions authorities were looking in the wrong place, mili-

tary officials explained Wednesday they had spotted images of what might be the plane on air defense radar recordings indicating it might have turned around, but they were inconclusive.

MISSING PASSENGERSOfficials initially said four

or five passengers had checked

in for the flight but did not board, and their luggage had to be taken off the plane before it departed for Beijing. This fu-eled speculation that terrorism might have caused the crash. On Wednesday, officials said some people with reservations never checked in and were simply replaced by standby passengers, and no baggage was removed.

STOLEN PASSPORTSMalaysian Home Minister

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi initially described two men who boarded

the plane with stolen passports as having Asian features, which was contradicted a day later by the civil aviation chief, Azhar-uddin Abdul Rahman, who cre-ated confusion with remarks that could have been taken to indicate they were black. The men were later identified by Interpol as Iranian. Malaysian police released photos of the men with identical legs, which turned out to be digitally ma-nipulated. Police said this was an oversight and was not done to mislead.

NEW DELHI - Four men convicted of raping and murdering a woman in New Delhi had their death sentences upheld on Thursday for a crime that caused a huge public backlash against an entrenched culture of violence against women in India. The victim, a trainee physiotherapist who was raped for an hour and tortured with an iron rod on a moving bus, became a symbol of the dangers women face in a country where a rape is reported on average every 21 minutes.

“The day the murderers of my daughter are hanged, we will feel we have got justice,” the victim’s mother said after the Delhi High Court confirmed the sentence of hanging handed down by a trial judge last September. “We hope, even in other such cases, justice will be done in the same fashion,” the mother said. Indian law bars the press from identify-ing rape victims.

Defence lawyers said they would appeal to the Supreme Court, with one denouncing Thursday’s decision as politically motivated. India holds a general election in April and May.

“This is not a fair trial,” A.P. Singh, repre-senting two of the convicts, told reporters af-ter the ruling by a panel of two female judges. “If the judgment had come after the elections, it would have been in our favour ... Clearly, the judges are under political pressure.”

Gym instructor Vinay Sharma, bus cleaner Akshay Kumar Singh, fruit-seller Pawan Gupta, and unemployed Mukesh Singh were sentenced to death for their part in the gang rape and killing of the 23-year-old woman in December 2012. During the seven-month trial, a fifth defendant hanged himself in his cell. A sixth, who was under 18 at the time of the attack, was sentenced to three years’ detention, the maximum allowed under ju-venile law.

Malaysian officials on Wednesday defended their handling of the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Here are some discrepancies in statements they have made since the plane disappeared early Saturday with 239 people on board:

Court upholds Delhi rapists’ death sentences

Bali PostDENPASAR - Because of pos-

sessing 10 kg of marijuana, Abdi Gultom, 28, had to bear all his actions. The man staying at Jalan Rangsana 17 Pesanggaran, South Denpasar, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, Tuesday (Mar 11).

In the trial at the Denpasar District Court, the sentenced imposed by the judge was considered fairly light in terms of evidence presented at trial. In the ruling, the panel of judges chaired by Wanugraha stated the defendant was found guilty and convinced as well as unlawful because he planted, cultivated, owned or provided narcot-ics belonging to first category in the form of plant. For the offense, the defendant was charged under Article 111 paragraph (2) of the Law of the RI No.35/2009 on narcotics. Other than physical punishment for 12 years, the judge also sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of IDR 8 billion. And if it was not paid, it could be substituted with four-month subsidiary impris-onment.

The verdict was lower than the prosecution. Earlier, the public pros-ecutor Ni Wayan Yusmawati charged the defendant more than 12 years. Against the verdict, both defendant and prosecutor stated to accept.

Previously, in the fact of the trial was revealed that defendant was arrested on November 5, 2013 on Jalan Ma-taram Gang Suli 2 Kuta. The arrest began from a report if the defendant often trafficked drugs.

Armed with that information, police immediately conducted an investigation. At that time, the officers continued to monitor the movement of the defendant. Once the target was believed to be in front of the eyes, police immediately arrested him.

When raiding his body, the officers encountered a plastic bag with seven plastic clip containing marijuana. In addition, the officers also found the other 15 plastic clips equally con-tained marijuana.

The officers then took the defen-dant to his residence at Jalan Rangsana 17 in the boarding house number B3. “We conducting a raid in the boarding room of the defendant, it was found dozens of plastic clips containing marijuana being ready to distribute. After weighed, the total weight of the marijuana found in the defendant’s room and his hand reached 10,051.05 grams,” said the prosecutor. As the results of examination, the defendant admitted to have got the marijuana from Rohot purchased at IDR 40 million. (110)

A defendant of drug case, Abdulah Yahya, 37, who should originally be on trial on Tuesday (Mar 11) even es-caped. Based on information received on Wednesday (Mar 12), when the defendant escaped, the ambience of courtroom was quite crowded because the schedule of trial was also busy. However, weakness of the duty officer at the time was alleged to have taken advantage to run away.

A source in the field told that the escaping action of the defendant took place quickly and was alleged to have been planned. As consequence, his escaping action ran smoothly and was not detected by the apparatus. As his mode, the man who had been detained in Kerobokan Prison pretended to def-ecate. The drug detainee convicted of drug possession belonging to crystal meth weighing 41.86 grams was rushed to bathroom in the back of the courtroom. Before leaving the court-room, he supposedly had opened the orange detainee vest.

According to earlier information, the detainee utilized the situation

around 2:30 p.m. where at that time he was about to be tried in the Tirta Room. However, those who were about to be tried should wait their turn because the trial schedule was pretty busy. Seeing the situation, the accused was alleged to look for the opportunity to escape. Actually, three police officers were in charge to guard the detainees, namely Edy Dariyanto, Balik Rudita and Wayan Sarjana.

Meanwhile, one of the prosecu-tors in charge for the defendant was Putu Agus Adnyana. Apparently they were made helpless by the defendant living on Jalan Nusa Penida at the boarding house in the room No.18, Bumi Sari hamlet, Dauh Puri village, West Denpasar. Against the escape of the defendant, the officers were distraught. A number of officers were chasing the man arrested due to a drug case. Unfortunately, the officers lost track. The case had been reported to police. So far, no parties had pro-vided information yet related to the escape of the detainee. (110)

Bali PostNEGARA - The rapid development of villas

located near the beach at Perancak village is crush-ing the life of local traditional fishermen. Water-front land for mooring their boat is increasingly narrow. Even, they are forced to borrow space to new landowner to park their boat.

As seen these days, the vacant waterfront land has shrunk away and is replaced with concrete breakwaters installed by villa owners. Only a few vacant lands are still left. Even, the land has already started to decrease due to abrasion. “Now, the land is getting narrower. We are forced to lift the boats a little far and park them on the land of villa owner,” said Ketut, one of the local

fishermen.Chairman of the Indonesia Fishermen Associa-

tion (HNSI) of Jembrana Chapter, Made Widan-ayasa, said the fishermen in Jembrana, especially at Perancak, were faced with the problem of the narrowing land for mooring their boats. Formerly the mooring spot was wide and owned by lo-cal residents, but it had now been purchased by people from outside Perancak. Even, it had been changed into villas and revetment. “Not to mention the abrasion increasingly threatens the mainland, they are also marginalized at their own home,” he said. To protect the welfare of fishermen, the HNSI proposed the making of regional bylaw that could give protection to fishermen. (olo)

BEIJING — China will keep this year’s economic expansion strong enough to create new jobs but will emphasize market-opening reform and cleaning up smog-choked cities over hitting its official growth target, the premier said Thursday.

Li Keqiang’s comments reinforced the ruling Communist Party’s pledge to shift to cleaner, more sustainable growth based on domestic consumption and service industries instead of trade and invest-ment.

Speaking at a news conference, Li said Beijing will keep growth in the world’s second-largest economy strong enough to fulfill plans to create 10 million jobs. But he said Chinese leaders are “not preoccupied” with hitting their official target of 7.5 percent growth in gross domestic product.

“What we care more about is the livelihood of our people,” Li said. “The GDP growth we want brings real benefits to our people, helps raise the quality and efficiency of economic development and con-tributes to energy conservation and environmental protection.”

Consumer spending is rising but not as fast as Bei-jing hoped. That prompted the government to launch a mini-stimulus last year with higher spending on railway construction. But Li has said any further gains have to come from longer-term reforms.

Li affirmed government plans to ease tax and regulatory burdens on entrepreneurs and open mar-kets such as health care and financial service that are dominated by the state.

“Some government departments will find fewer powers in their own hands and in boosting market competition and easing market access, some existing companies will feel greater pressure,” Li said. “We will carry out reform without hesitation.”

The premier was trying to strike a balance be-tween emphasizing the leadership’s shift away from growth at all costs and reassuring companies the economy would not be allowed to slow too much, said Joseph Cheng, a political analyst at the City University of Hong Kong.

Li promised to “declare war” against smog that is choking Chinese cities, and corruption, both of which are focal points of public anger at the ruling party.

China has “zero tolerance” for corrupt officials and will punish them “to the fullest extent,” Li said.

However, Li gave no indication the ruling party will allow independent checks on officials, a measure anti-graft experts say would be more effective.

Li warned regulators will face punishment if environmental enforcement is found to be lax.

“We can’t just sit here and wait for the wind or rain to drive the smog away,” Li said.

This year’s legislative meeting was overshadowed by a terror attack on March 1 in the southwestern city of Kunming just before the session opened, as well as Saturday’s disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet with Chinese passengers aboard.

In a widely anticipated move, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand lifted the official cash rate (OCR) 0.25 points to 2.75 percent and said it planned more hikes in an economy that was growing with “considerable momentum”.

The bank’s governor Graeme Wheeler said rates no longer needed to be kept at a record low and could return to “normal” levels, sending the New Zealand dollar to a five-month high against the greenback.

“The bank’s assessment is that the Official Cash Rate will need to rise by about two percentage points over the next two years for inflation to settle,” he said.

The 6.3-magnitude Christchurch earthquake in February 2011 lev-elled much of New Zealand’s second largest city, claiming 185 lives and prompting the bank to slash rates in an emergency move to protect the economy.

Since then, New Zealand has ex-perienced strong growth thanks to a booming housing market, growing global demand for primary products such as dairy, and a NZ$40 billion (US$33.9 billion) programme to re-

build the shattered South Island city. But the massive construct ion

spending has fuelled inflation and Wheeler said the bank was determined to keep the cost of living within the bank’s 1.0-3.0 percent target band.

“The speed and extent to which the OCR will be raised will depend on economic data and our continuing assessment of emerging inflationary pressures,” he said.

Capital Economics analyst Gareth Leather said no advanced economy had lifted interest rates since 2012.

He expected the OCR to rise to 3.25 percent by the end of the year, with some analysts tipped it will peak at 5.5 percent by late 2016.

The last time New Zealand lifted the OCR was in July 2010, when so-called “green shoots” of economic recovery were emerging, only to be overwhelmed by fresh problems such as Europe’s debt crisis.

in response, central banks in de-veloped countries dropped interest rates to ultra-low levels in a bid to stimulate growth.

While Wheeler noted some signs of recovery in New Zealand’s global trading partners, Westpac New Zea-

land chief economist Dominick Stephens said other advanced econo-mies would not rush to follow New Zealand’s lead.

He said the earthquake rebuild and New Zealand’s strong terms of trade -- the price that other countries pay for its exports -- made it a special case.

“New Zealand is exceptional in that sense, it’s forging its own path,” he said.

HSBC’s chief economist for Aus-tralasia Paul Bloxham this year dubbed New Zealand “the rock star economy for 2014”.

Prime Minister John Key, facing a general election in September, has vowed to campaign on his economic record.

A string of interest rate rises in the mortgage belt may prove a po-litical headache for the conservative leader, but he put a positive gloss on the situation by suggesting Wheeler was giving a vote of confidence to the economy.

“It means that he is confident the economy is rebounding and rebound-ing strongly -- both the Treasury and the Reserve Bank now have growth sitting at around four percent,” Key said this week.

WELLINGTON - New Zealand on Thursday became first advanced economy to raise interest rates since 2012, ending a three-year freeze imposed after the devastating Christchurch earthquake.

Five temples existing in the woods such as the Bukit Sari, Melanting, Tirta, Anyar and Batan Pole seem to maintain the sanc-tity of the forest. Stealing, saying rudely or breaking the rules there will get in return. The effect will be different, like trance, confusion, sudden dark and sometimes people does not know the way home.

One of the officers of the tourist attraction, Made Sumohon, said it was the only tropical forests over-grown by nutmeg tree vegetation so that it made the area very cool and haunted. Monkeys as forest dwell-ers always maintained the sanctity of the area. “If there are people committing evil deeds, the deities

It is located on Jalan Taman Bali, Blahpane Klod hamlet, Sidan village, about 25 km east of Denpasar. This tourist attrac-tion offers a panorama of tropical nature of the Indonesia graced with cultural tourism, customs, traditional houses and museums to the art crafts of Indonesian society in the present and past time.

President Director of the Taman Nusa, Santoso Senangsyah, said the idea of the alternative tourist attraction in Bali originated from his concerns about the condition of the Indonesian culture that was increasingly marginalized today. It was less enthused by younger generation and impressed that no one cared. “Departing from the

phenomenon, it then appears the idea to establish a center for cul-tural preservation of the nation,” he said.

The tourist attraction perform-ing its soft opening earlier this year was built as a cultural tour-ism park of Indonesia doubling as the presentation of Bali for Indo-nesia and the world. “We hope, the Taman Nusa can serve as a means of tourist attraction, education, conservation and research on the Indonesian culture,” he hoped. Through the Taman Nusa, ex-plained Santosa, his party wanted to feature the existence of cultural heritage to the world community. Visitors were invited to explore the panorama of the time passage

of Indonesia from the ancient time to the pre-history, the kingdom era of the archipelago, cultural village, until Indonesia attained its independence.

Replica of the Borobudur temple was one of the objects on the panorama of the Indonesian kingdom featured in the park. The temple becoming one of 8 regional Indonesia’s panoramas was a monu-mental work of the nation and one of the world’s seven wonders. There was also a replica of the statue of Gajah Mada figure known for the Palapa Oath in uniting the whole kingdoms in this archipelago.

Similar opinion was revealed by Spokesperson of the company, I Gede Panca Buana Karya. This

friendly man said that to learn more details about the Indo-nesian civilization, the Taman Nusa had also been supported by the presence of broom-shaped building. It stored sublime mes-sage that Indonesia had to come together to build the country and be strong, sturdy as well as not be fragmented. The Sapu Lidi build-ing was equipped with a library representing the united nation of the insightful, knowledgeable and intelligent Indonesia. “This build-ing needs to be introduced so that the spirit of the nation can give a smart and appreciation from the world,” he said.

In the panorama area of the Future of Indonesia lay three mu-seums in the form of fabric, pup-pets and ethnographic museum as a representation that Indonesia should maintain and appreciate the wealth of the arts and culture

of its own people. Meanwhile, there was also an exhibition space to display diverse arts and cultures of the other nations. This repre-sented the openness of Indonesia to the presence of foreign cultures. “We attempt to record the stories and the history and present them in the tourist attraction located in the region of the art,” he said.

More interestingly, the Ta-man Nusa also presented historic houses from all provinces in In-donesia from Sabang to Merauke and from Mangias to the Island of Rote. This tourist attraction presented more than 60 traditional houses from all provinces in In-donesia. Uniquely, those houses had been hundreds of years old directly brought in from various provinces in Indonesia. “Let us love and get to know the country, Indonesia, in the Taman Nusa,” he said. (BTN)

Gianyar County has now had a newly established tourist attraction. Known as Taman Nusa, it offers captivating scenery. It is surrounded by cliffs and lush tropical forest with the views of sea, mountains and the overlay of terraced rice fields. venerated in the Melanting Temple will be ignorant,” he said.

Sometimes it spread fragrances and foul odors that could make us shocked. Walking around the temple would be like to be fol-lowed. Without a cause the clean head would suddenly feel itchy like to be inhibited by many fleas. Surprisingly, it would leave no trace after going out of the forest. Beautiful women often appeared in broad daylight.

People looking for nutmeg sometimes lost control and then said rudely. They were then re-warded to lose control where they could not find their way home. Another incident drawing the attention was when a tourist fell into trance which behaved like an ape.

Sumohon explained it happened because people wanted to test the power of nature over there. When being not strong enough to get in touch with the forces of nature, people would fall into trance and eventually passed out. “After consulted to local temple priest and sprinkled with holy water, the tourist finally regained his con-scious and came back to normal,” he said.

Another incident was a domes-tic visitor from Java that was sup-posed to get possessed at its home

village. Having consulted to a me-dium, in fact the visitor had made mistake at the tourist attraction of Sangeh. Ultimately, the visitor came back to Sangeh for delivering apologizing oblation.

Nevertheless, many of those visitors getting a good reward. For example, they became a successful businessman that could manage their organization well, recovered from being sickly and others.

“Essentially, never have an evil intention when having a promenade in the forest area, precisely in the area of Melanting Temple. Simply comply with the rules and restric-tions,” he said.

By evening, rescue workers finally began the search for victims amid the broken bricks, splintered wood and mangled metal after firefighters spent most of the day dousing the flames. Heavy equipment, including back hoes and a bulldozer, arrived to clear the mountain of debris where the two five-story East Harlem build-ings stood. Flood lights were in place. Thermal imaging cameras were at the ready to identify heat spots — bodies or pockets of fire.

The recovery was facing hardship in the form of the weather, which was expected to drop below freezing with rain. Some parts of the debris pile were inaccessible because of a sink-hole caused by a subsurface water main break, officials said.

The fiery blast, on Park Avenue at 116th Street, not far from the edge

of Central Park, erupted about 9:30 a.m., around 15 minutes after a neigh-boring resident reported smelling gas, authorities said. The Con Edison util-ity said it immediately sent workers to check out the report, but they didn’t arrive until it was too late.

The explosion shattered win-dows a block away, rained debris onto elevated commuter railroad tracks close by, cast a plume of smoke over the skyline and sent people running into the streets. “It felt like an earthquake had rattled my whole building,” said Waldemar Infante, a porter who was working in a basement nearby. “There were glass shards every-where on the ground, and all the stores had their windows blown out.”

Emanuel Rivera, 24, lives on the

corner of 116th and Park Avenue, across the street from the blast site. He was at home sleeping with his wife Rehanna and their two children when it happened. “All you heard was boom. The whole building shook. We looked outside and there was a bunch of smoke. Everything was in flames,” he said.

Like several other neighbors, Ri-vera said they started smelling gas Tuesday night. “The smell of gas was there since yesterday night,” he said. Hunter College identified one of the people killed in the blast as Griselde Camacho, a security officer who worked for the college since 2008.

Another of the people who died was Carmen Tanco, 67, a dental hygienist. Police identified the third fatal victim as Rosaura Hernandez-Barrios, 21.

YANGON, Myanmar — With tears in his eyes, the chief editor scoured the last-ever edition of his newspaper before sending the proofread copy to the printing press. His once-bustling newsroom was quiet. Some reporters cleared their desks while others tried to cheer up their boss with words of gratitude, or even some homemade pork stew.

Khin Maung Lay is one of many Myanmar journalists who last year embraced the chance to produce independent daily newspapers free from censorship for the first time in five decades. It was not the government that shut him down, but economics: His paper and others have been los-ing money as they struggle to compete with state-owned papers for advertisers and circulation.

“It breaks my heart,” said Khin Maung Lay, who has been part of the country’s ever-shifting media landscape for most of his 82 years and was jailed repeatedly when it was under military rule. “Today is my real last day as a newsman.”

One year after publishers and editors took advantage of a decision by the country’s nominally civilian government to lift a half-century-old ban on private dailies, the feeling of euphoria is fading.

Khin Maung Lay’s paper, Golden Fresh Land, published its last edition Wednesday. It is the first well-known private daily to fold, but 11 others that are still publishing also appear to be struggling.

“All the daily newspapers except the pro-junta party newspapers are running at a loss,” said an editor-in-chief of one of the most popular private dailies. He asked not to be named because he was not authorized to comment by management. “We are losing around 3 million kyat ($3,000) every day and many smaller papers are in the red too. Some can barely survive,” he said.

The more popular private dailies sell about 80,000 copies per day, far less than the three state-run newspapers, which all have circulations of more than 320,000.

“Garuda cancelled five Padang-Jakarta flights while Lion Air, Sri-wijaya Air and Citilink just delayed their flights on Wednesday but I have yet to receive today’s condition,” the airport’s operational manager Joko Sudarmanto said on Thursday.

The pilot’s visibility on Wednesday was just about 800 meters due to the thick haze. Garuda and the other air-lines cancelled or delayed their flights for safety reason, he said.

Despite the government’s efforts to put out forest fires in Sumatra, the

number of hotspots increased signifi-cantly to 2,393 on Wednesday morn-ing from 288 on Monday afternoon, Head of Riau city’s Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency Sugarin noted.

Serious CrimeMeanwhile, the Indonesian En-

vironmental Forum (Walhi), stated that forest fire is a serious crime, considering the huge impact it has on the Indonesian people. According to Executive Director of Walhi chapter

in Riau, Riko Kurniawan government has violated the constitution by letting the fire happen. People are being de-prived of their right to have clean and healthy environment.

Since September 2013, Walhi has sued the central government, the regional government, the national police, the environmental affairs min-istry, and the forestry minister over the forest, plantation and peat-soil fires currently razing the Riau and Jambi, Sumatra Island.

Munhur Satyahaprabu, the policy

and legal defense manager of Walhi, stated in Jakarta, on Thursday that an environment-certified judge will chair a court trial over the Walhi’s lawsuit.

“It can be considered a progress that the Central Jakarta Court has appointed an environment-certified judge to handle environmental case. Previously, the Malang Court also appointed an environment-certified judge to chair an environmental dis-pute,” he explained.

It was the request of Walhi’s lawyer that the Central Jakarta Court should appoint an environment-certified judge. The Central Jakarta has appoint-ed Judge Nani Indrawati to handle the forest fire case.

Judges having environmental

Chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Syamsul Maarif stated that some 99 percent of forest and plantation fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan were deliberately set.

“There should be sanctions to stop recurrences. Slash-and-burn farming methods exist in Sumatra and Kalim-antan, but the most important thing is that they should be controlled,” Maarif noted in a statement on Feb. 28.

Despite the government’s efforts to put out forest fires in Sumatra, the number of hotspots increased signifi-cantly to 2,393 on Wednesday morn-ing, from 288 on Monday afternoon.

INDIAN WELLS, California — Novak Djokovic rallied to beat Marin Cilic 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday, avoiding the upsets that knocked out two other top-10 players. Djokovic didn’t face a break point on his serve after the first set in the baseline slugfest that ended after midnight PDT. He ad-vanced to the quarterfinals against Julien Benneteau, a 6-3, 7-6 (4) winner over Feliciano Lopez.

“It was very tough. Marin was a far better player in the first 45 minutes. He was striking the ball in-credibly well,” said Djokovic, who improved to 8-0 against Cilic. “I tried to stay calm and composed and believe that I could come back.”

Kevin Anderson upset Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-1, and sixth-ranked Andy Murray joined Wawrinka on the sidelines, losing to big-serving Milos Raonic, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.Andy Murray joined Wawrinka on the sidelines, losing to the big-serv-ing Raonic, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Ander-son ended Wawrinka’s 13-match winning streak that included his first Grand Slam title in January. Wawrinka didn’t face a break point

in his first two matches, but he got broken in his first service game against the 6-foot-8 Anderson, who had 11 aces and connected on 64 percent of his first serves.

“I was complaining a lot about my serve, about the way I was play-ing, and with that, I don’t deserve to win matches,” Wawrinka said. “I should have been more positive with myself, just trying to find solution because it was still a close match.”

After losing the first set tie-breaker, Wawrinka left the court for nearly eight minutes to have his back worked on. He returned and broke Anderson twice in taking the second set to even the match. “It’s just tightness,” he said, insisting he wasn’t injured. “I was a little bit nervous and tight and tired.”

Anderson earned all four breaks in the third in completing his 150th career match win on the ATP Tour. “Game plan is just to get as many first serves back as possible just to give myself the best look in his serve games throughout the match,” he said.

Anderson advanced to the quar-terfinals against four-time tourna-ment champion Roger Federer, who beat 11th-seeded Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-4.

Madewi Beach, the best surfing destination

Madewi Beach is slightly different from the other beach-es in Bali. With a sloping position, it is more decorated with the overlay of stones than sand. The waves are huge and liked best by surfers wishing to try out their ability on the sea. You do not have to worry if you want to surf and enjoy the sunset for a long time because hotels and restaurants have been available nearby.

Several surfers have tried the ferociousness of coastal waves offered by Madewi Beach. They are mostly from Australia, Holland and Japan. However, the number of their arrival is uncertain. On holidays such as from January to March, it is more exploited by tourists from Japan, while June through August it draws tourists from Australian.

PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc was left feeling frustrated and let down by some of his players after a scrappy 2-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen sealed a Champions League quarterfinal slot for the second straight season. PSG made a poor start and mid-fielder Sidney Sam gave Leverkusen a flicker of hope with a well taken goal after six minutes. Brazilian defender Marquinhos equalized soon after and Argentina winger Ezequiel Lavezzi continued his fine form with the winner in the 53rd minute.

But Blanc felt his team had switched off after the first leg, which PSG won 4-0 for a crushing 6-1 aggregate win. “It’s all well and good saying to the players ‘forget the first game’ but it’s true that subconsciously you tell yourself you’ve got a bit of a cushion,” Blanc said. “But there were players out there who don’t play that much and you have to show your best level. The Champions League is a level above and I was expecting more from my team.”

With Blanc resting several players, midfielders Yohan Cabaye, Adrien Rabiot and Javier Pastore were given starts, while Marquin-hos replaced countryman Alex in central defense. Christophe Jallet stepped in for the injured Gregory van der Wiel at right back. Given a chance to shine, Pastore was disappointing.

“We didn’t play very well. I was expecting a bit more. But the essential thing is that we’re through,” Blanc said. “You could put it down to a lack of experience or a lack of preparation, yet we did prepare the match properly.” Still, he remains optimistic that his team can contend for the trophy.

“I think since last year our opponents fear us more and more,” Blanc said. “We’re seen as a club that can go very far in this competition. We’re not going to content ourselves with reaching the quarterfinals.” Leverkusen had midfielder Emre Can sent off for a second yellow card with a little more than 20 minutes left.

But PSG will have to do better in defense in the quarterfinals, with Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes missing a first-half penalty.

LONDON - Two fiercely in-tense, always passionate, local rivalries with even more spice than usual take centre stage in the Premier League this weekend when Manchester United face Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur play Arsenal. The teams occupy four of the top six positions in the table and none can afford to lose in their pursuit of either the title or a top-four finish and the prospect of Champions League football next season.

The other two places in the top six are filled by leaders Chelsea, who travel to Aston Villa, and Manchester City, who are at FA Cup semi-finalists Hull City.

A win for Chelsea on Saturday would lift them to 69 points and put them 10 clear of Liverpool and Arsenal who are not in ac-tion until Sunday. Manchester City, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Bar-celona on Wednesday, are nine points behind Chelsea with three matches in hand. Chelsea will have eight games left after this weekend, City 11. Tottenham start the weekend in fifth place

Reuters SAO PAULO - Atletico Paranaense,

the Brazilian club whose stadium was threatened with expulsion from the World Cup because i t was behind schedule, have denied that money for construction work was diverted to pay for a player.

The club said it was owed money by CAP S/A, the subsidiary it set up to man-age the building work.

When CAP S/A received a cash injec-tion it used some of the money to pay back the club, which used that income to settle an outstanding debt with Vitoria for right back Leo who spent last year on loan to Atletico but recently moved

to Flamengo.“The operation is legally irreproach-

able,” the club said in a statement. “There was lots of Atletico money in CAP S/A. There is no CAP S/A money in Atletico.”

The Curitiba club’s stadium was only last month confirmed as one of the World Cup’s 12 host venues because the Arena

da Baixada was so far behind schedule that there were doubts as to whether it would be ready for the first match there on June 16.

World champions Spain will be based at Atletico’s training ground and the Arena da Baixada is due to host four matches at this year’s finals, including Spain against Australia.

on 53 points with United sixth on 48 and with a game in hand on Spurs.

ANCIENT HISTORIES

Judging by their entwined histories, more than a century of loathing between the fans, dramas and controversies - even before this season’s earlier meetings are taken into account - events at White Hart Lane and Old Traf-ford are likely to overshadow everything else. Both Spurs and Arsenal have plenty to prove in their third meeting of the season following Arsenal’s 1-0 league win in September and their 2-0 victory in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates in January.

Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday when they drew 1-1 at Bayern Munich but lost 3-1 on aggregate and they come to White Hart Lane without 42.1 million-pound ($70 million) record sign-ing Mesut Ozil.

The German picked up a ham-string injury in Munich and according to manager Arsene Wenger will be out for several weeks, although he expects Aar-

on Ramsey to return for the first time since Boxing Day.

Arsenal reached the FA Cup semi-finals with a 4-1 victory over Everton last weekend and re-tain an outside chance of winning the title but their league form has dipped lately with just one win from their last four matches.

BOUNCE BACK

Spurs, who are also chasing silverware in the Europa League and face Benfica in a round of 16 first leg match at home on Thurs-day, are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of los-ing 4-0 to Chelsea last Saturday. Manager Tim Sherwood strongly criticised his players for showing a lack of commitment after they had defender Younes Kaboul sent off and conceded all four goals in the last 30 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Kaboul’s red card was re-scinded by the FA so he can play on Sunday and there will be no doubting Spurs’ commitment against Arsenal who will be playing their 999th match under manager Arsene Wenger.

Manchester United and Liver-pool get Sunday’s action rolling with a lunchtime kickoff at Old Trafford with United showing signs of improvement after what has been a difficult first season for manager David Moyes.

United, who have not finished outside the top three for 23 sea-sons, have not been in the top five since mid-November but they have kept clean sheets with two wins and draw in their last three league matches and could close the gap on Spurs to two points if they win and Spurs slip up. “To see Man City doing well, and particularly Liverpool, is really difficult,” United striker Wayne Rooney told Inside United magazine.

“It’s not nice when we know we are capable of being up there challenging and we haven’t been doing that this season.

“However, it means we have to step up and get back up there because the feeling we’ve had this season is not a nice feeling at all to have. As a group of play-ers and a team we haven’t been good enough this season and we have to put that right.” Liverpool beat United 1-0 at Anfield in the League on Sept. 1 and lost 1-0 to them at Old Trafford in the League Cup three weeks later.

Martino defended Neymar at his post-match news conference on Wednesday and noted the player was still working his way back after the ankle injury.

“Neymar made a big contribu-tion to the team and did some great work helping in defence,” the Ar-gentine told reporters. “In the first half he had two good chances and the process of rejoining the team means he still can’t manage the 90 minutes.” However, Barca did not buy Neymar to help out in defence and they will be expecting more from him as the season enters a crucial phase with the club still alive in all three competitions they are contesting.

Chasing a fifth La Liga title in six years, they are four points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid in third and play at their arch rivals on March 23. The Champions League quarter-finals, where they could be drawn against Real, are at the start of April and they meet them again in the final of the King’s Cup on April 16.

LESS CALM

Barca slipped to third in La Liga behind Atletico Madrid last weekend after a shock 1-0 defeat at Real Valladolid and anything other than a win at home to Osasuna on Sunday could see them drop out of the domestic title race. There have been plenty of doubts about their style of play this season, in particular surrounding the defence, which has been vulnerable in the air

However, a number of lacklus-

tre displays have added to the sense that Barca are a club in decline after a spectacular run of success under former coach Pep Guardiola.

“The team has had ups and downs and we are coming to this point in the season with less calm than we wanted,” Martino said. “In Valladolid we were lacking in football not in intensity. “In the same way that we put on a poor show there, today we turned that around.”

Garuda and the other air-lines cancelled or delayed their flights for safety reason, he said.

number of hotspots increased signifi-cantly to 2,393 on Wednesday morn-ing from 288 on Monday afternoon, Head of Riau city’s Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency Sugarin noted.

Judges having environmental

perspectives are needed in the future, he said.

(BTN)

venerated in the Melanting Temple will be ignorant,” he said.

tion (HNSI) of Jembrana Chapter, Made Widan-ayasa, said the fishermen in Jembrana, especially at Perancak, were faced with the problem of the narrowing land for mooring their boats. (olo)

When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon.

(mud)

Such assertion was revealed by the Commercial Director of Commeta Niaga Raya, Septianus Ting. “On that account, tour guides must recognize the physical characteristics of the original foreign currency such as the dollar. To be safe, the tour guides should use ultraviolet light, magnifying glass or special magnifying glass for foreign currency,” he said.

According to him, the circulation of fake banknotes in Bali was not only limited to fake banknotes of foreign currency in tourist areas, but also the official currency of Indonesia like the rupiah was also widely found. In addi-tion, Septianus did not mention the exact amount of the fake banknotes circulating in Bali.

He only provided the data of early 2014. Bank Indonesia (BI) and the National Police Criminal Investigator had elimi-nated the fake banknotes at least 135,110 sheets. In details, they consisted of 67,278 sheets of IDR 100,000 denomina-tion, 56,764 sheets of IDR 50,000 denomination, 5,033 sheets of IDR 20,000 denomination, 3,553 sheets of IDR 10,000 denomination, 2,460 sheets of IDR 5,000 denomination, 19 sheets of IDR 2,000 denomination and 3 sheets of IDR 1,000 denomination. They were the findings of fake rupiah banknotes collected from 2008 through 2013 and stored in the National Police Criminal Investigation.

Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded that during 2013 the most

fake banknotes were in circulation in the region of East Java. A total of 22.85 percent of fake banknotes was found in the region. Then, it was followed by the Greater Jakarta (20.71 percent), West Java (15.23 percent), Central Java (13.19 percent) and Jogjakarta (12.30 percent). Findings of the fake banknotes throughout the year 2013 were based on 58 reports from the public.

Government through the Bank Indonesia (BI) and the National Police Criminal Investigation continued to urge the public to be vigilant against the circulation of fake banknotes. Similarly, it also asked the public who found the counterfeit money to immediately report to police or BI in order it could be investigated in relation to the loca-tion for preventing further victims. However, the loss of the fake banknote owners or the people reporting the fake banknotes would not be replaced by the BI. This condi-tion made it difficult to diminish the circulation of fake banknotes in Indonesia. (059)
