September 15, 2009 T ROOP 370 Boy led. Man made. Wednesday, August 19, was our yearly Court of Honor where we recognize everyone’s advancement. The night started off with a fantastic barbeque dinner. The pulled pork sandwiches were delicious. Everyone brought a side or buns, so we had some good eats. After the dinner, Mrs. Johnson announced that she is the Popcorn Colonel, and some very good prizes will be given away. Mr. Ball asked parents to sign up for the merit badges offered to the boys. After the announcements, we opened the ceremony with a flag ceremony. I then gave my State of the Troop address, followed by Mr. Evan’s address. We discussed the past year, including leadership, religious emblems and more. I also went over the amazing calendar we have this year. We moved on to recognizing different forms of advancement, such as participants in Troop Leader Training, and the National Youth Leadership Training (the best program Scouting has to offer concerning leadership!). We also recognized the boys that earned the National Camping award, having over 100 nights of camping in their career. We acknowledged the boys and girls, who completed the Triple Crown award. The Chairman’s award this year went to Fontaine Kohler, for all of the countless hours she has put into Troop 370. The Folsom Award for Excellence in Camping and Cooking went to Reid Ulicny. The William Waddey Award for Outstanding Community Service went to Andrew Quigley. Then, we recognized everyone’s advancement in the past year. I am astounded by the amount of progress the boys make every year, a sign that we are one of the best troops in the nation. This year’s banquet summed up how excellent our troop is. As for my role as Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) for the past six months, the biggest lesson I learned was that you can not have too many friends supporting you. Have you heardof the Vintage Affair? It is a fund raiser for the Community Action Center in Sandy Springs. They need help with a clean up for their event from 8:30 -12:00 Sunday the 18th of October. We're looking 3-4 boys to sign up for service hours and an adult to go with them. If you can help with this project contact [email protected]

Recycle your uniforms!Have you just crossed over from cub scouts or grown out of your tan scout shirt and green pants? If so, please consider donating these uniforms to others! If you need a uniform piece, let us know and we’ll see if we have it. Last year, over 40 families participated in our uniform recycling. Especially needed are the blue cub scout shirts. The boys can bring their donations any Wednesday evening and give to Benjamin Yarmowich, to the collection box outside the St. James Church office, or contact

Hillary Yarmowich at [email protected].

SOMETHING ABOUT HARRY(AND LESLEE)

Harry and Leslee Evans were presented a Norman Rockwell print from the February 1938 Boys Life cover- America Builds for Tomorrow. Leslee has served Scouting at St. James for many years as Girl Scout leader, Cub den leader, Pack committee chair, Cubmaster, and several high adventure trips with the troop and Venturing Crews. Not to mention being a very supportive Scoutmasters wife. Harry was past troop committee chair and Scoutmaster for the last ten years. They have both been a part of the lives of these boys with a great example of mentoring, leadership and vision.

One long time adult leader in the troop said, "I believe may of us continue to work with this troop not only because we believe in the Scouting mission, but also because Harry sets a good example for each of us and inspires all of our Scouts and adults to do our best every day.  Harry is the face and personality of our troop."
