4. After your refrigerator is inoperation, do not touch the coldsurfaces in the refrigeratorcompartment, particularly whenhands are damp or wet. Skinmay adhere to these extremelycold surfaces.

5. Do not store or use gasoline orother flammable vapors andliquids in the vicinity of this orany other appliance.

6. In freezers with an automaticicemaker, avoid contact with themoving parts of the ejectormechanism, or with the heatingelement located on the bottomof the icemaker. Do not placefingers or hands on theautomatic icemakingmechanism while the freezer isplugged in.

7. Unplug your refrigerator beforecleaning and making repairs.NOTE: We strongly recommendthat any servicing be performedby a qualified individual.

8. Before replacing a burned-outlight bulb, pull out the main plugor switch of the fuse to turn offthe lights in order to avoidcontact with a live wire filament.

9. A burned-out light bulb maybreak when being replaced.NOTE: Setting the refrigeratortemperature controls to OFFdoes not remove power to thelight circuit.

10. Do not refreeze frozen foodswhich have thawed completely.

RISK OF CHILD ENTRAPMENTChild entrapment and suffocationare not problems of the past.Junked or abandoned refrigerationproducts are still dangerous.., evenif they will sit for "just a few days".If you are getting rid of your oldappliance, please follow theseinstructions to help preventaccidents.Before You Throw Away Your OldRefrigeration Product:- Take off the doors.

- Leave the shelves in place so thatchildren may not easily climbinside.

Electrical ConnectionThe appliance comes with an ULlisted, 3-wire power supply cord.The appliance requires a 3-wirereceptacle.The receptacle must be installed bya licensed electrician only.

Grounding instructionThis appliance must be grounded.In the event of a malfunction orbreakdown, grounding will reducethe risk of electric shock byproviding a path of least resistancefor the electric current.Improper connection of theequipment grounding conductormay result in electric shock. Havethe appliance checked by a qualifiedelectrician or service technician ifyou are in doubt as to whether theappliance has been properlygrounded.Some local regulations may requirea separate ground. In such cases,the required accessory ground wire,clamp and screw must bepurchased separately.Never ground the appliance toplastic plumbing lines, gas lines orwater pipes.

CFC DISPOSALYour old refrigerator may havea cooling system that used CFC's(chlorofluorocarbons).CFC's are believed to harmstratospheric ozone.If you are throwing away an oldrefrigeration product, make sure theCFC refrigerant is removed forproper disposal by a qualifiedservicer. Installation

Excessive Weight!- Keep doors taped closed until

refrigerator is completelyinstalled.

- Use two or more people tomove and install refrigerator.

Failure to do so can result in deathor serious injury.

Do not install the appliance:- outdoors,- in an environment with dripping

water,- in rooms which are at risk of

frost.

Installation location

Do not store or use gasoline orother flammable vapors andliquids in the vicinity of this or anyother appliance.Failure to do so can result indeath, explosion or fire.

Install the appliance in a dry, wellventilated room. The installationlocation should neither be exposedto direct sunlight nor near a heatsource, e.g. a cooker, radiator, etc.If installation next to a heat source isunavoidable, use a suitableinsulating plate or observe thefollowing minimum distances toa heat source:- 11/4" (3 cm) to electric or gas

cookers.- from an oil or solid-fuel cooker

Ventilation

Never cover the ventilation openingsin the base panel.Otherwise the refrigerating unit mustwork harder, increasing the powerconsumption.

Place the enclosed spacers in thedesignated holders on the back ofthe appliance. This ensures thatthere is a minimum distancebetween the appliance and the wall.

Electrical requirements

Avoid Electrical Shock Hazard- Plug into a grounded 3 prong

outlet.- Do not remove ground prong.- Do not use an adapter.- Do not use an extension cord.Failure to follow these instructionscan result in death, fire, orelectrical shock.Improper connection of theequipment grounding conductormay result in electric shock.Have the appliance checked bya qualified electrician or servicetechnician if you are in doubt asto whether the appliance has beenproperly grounded.

A 115 Volt, 60 Hz., AC only 15- or20-amp fused, grounded electricalsupply is required.The appliance comes with an ULlisted, 3-wire power supply cord.The appliance requires a 3-wirereceptacle. Use an receptacle thatcannot be turned off by a switch.The receptacle must be installed bya licensed electrician only.

Water connectionHave a technician install theappliance and connect it to thewater supply according to theenclosed installation instructions.

A cold water connection is requiredfor operation of the automatic icemaker.The water pressure must bebetween 20 and 100 p.s.i.(1.4-6.9 bar).The installation must comply withlocal plumbing regulations and localand state laws.A separate shut-off valve must beinstalled for the appliance waterconnection.The shut-off valve for the waterconnection must not be behind theappliance. It is recommended toplace the shut-oft valve directly nextto the appliance (base unit) or inanother easily accessible location.

Installing andconnecting theapplianceo Have a technician install and

connect the applianceaccording to the enclosedinstallation instructions.

o After installing the appliance,wait at least 1/2hour until theappliance starts up.During transportation the oil inthe compressor may haveflowed into the refrigerationsystem.

o Before switching on theappliance for the first time, cleanthe interior of the appliance(see "Cleaning the appliance").

o Always connect the waterbefore the power.

o Apart from statutory nationalregulations, you should stick tothe connection terms relating tothe local electricity and watercompanies.

o Do not removethe transpor-tation protection devices fromthe shelves and storagecompartments until theappliance has been installed.

Aligning the applianceTo ensure that the appliancefunctions correctly, it must be setlevel with a spirit level.If the appliance is not level, watermay flow out of the ice maker, icecubes may be irregular or the doorsmay not close properly.

o Place the appliance in thedesignated location.

o Align front feet with a hexagonwrench.

o Align rear feet with an Allen key.

Door opening angle

Unscrewing the appliance doorsIf the appliance will not fit throughthe house door, the appliance doorscan be unscrewed.We recommend that installation iscarried out by Qualified Installer.

Before you unscrew the positioningaids from the appliance door:- Cut off the water supply to the

appliance.- Switch off the appliance.- Pull out the mains plug or

switch off the fuse.

Selecting thetemperatureThe required area must be selectedbefore temperatures can be set forthe different temperature zones(refrigerator compartment, freezercompartment, "cool-fresh" drawer).To do this, keep pressing the"select" button until the requiredzone is marked with an arrow.

Refrigerator compartment1. Press the "select" button until

a triangle is indicated on therefrigerator compartmentdisplay panel.

2. Set the temperature with the "+"(warmer) or "-" (cooler) selectionbuttons.

The refrigerator compartment canbe set from 35 F (+2 C) to 46 F(+8 C).Perishable food should not bestored warmer than 39 F (4 C).

Freezer compartment1. Press the "select" button until

a triangle is indicated on thefreezer compartment displaypanel.

2. Set the temperature with the "+"(warmer) or "-" (cooler) selectionbuttons.

The temperature can be set at onedegree intervals.The freezer compartment can be setfrom 7 F (-14 C) to -15 F (-26 C).The value last indicated is saved bythe system.

"cool-fresh" drawer(FreshprotectBox)1. Press the "select" button until

a triangle is indicated on the"cool-fresh" drawer(FreshprotectBox) display panel.

2. Set one of the temperatureranges 32 F (0 C) /35.5 F (2 O) / 39 F (+4 O)with the "+" (warmer) or "-"(cooler) selection buttons.

Warning signalIn the following cases a warningsignal may sound:

The door warning signalThe door warning signal sounds ifone of the appliance doors is openfor longer than one minute. Closethe door to switch off the warningsignal.Press the "alarm/lock" button toswitch off the warning signal.

Temperature warningsignalThe temperature warning signalswitches on if the freezer or therefrigerator compartment is toowarm and the food is at risk ofthawing.The acoustic and optical signalsmay be actuated without risk to thefrozen food when:- The appliance is switched on.

- Large quantities of fresh food areplaced in the freezer.

Freezer compartment

Do not refreeze food which hasstarted to thaw or already thawed.It can only be refrozen when it hasbeen used to prepare a readymeal (boiled or fried).No longer store the frozenproduce for the max. storageperiod.

"AL" flashes on the freezercompartment display panel and"alarm" is displayed.Press the "alarm/lock" button toswitch off the warning signal.

The temperature can be set at onedegree intervals.

Thetemperaturedisplayindicatesfor 10secondsthewarmesttemperaturewhichwasreachedinthefreezercompartment.Thenthesettemperatureisdisplayedagain.The"alarm"displaygoesout assoonasthesettemperaturehasbeenreached.

Refrigerator compartment

If the refrigerator compartmenthas become too warm, cookwarmed refrigerated food beforeconsumption. If in doubt, do notuse raw food.

"AL" flashes on the refrigeratorcompartment display panel and"alarm" is displayed.Press the "alarm/lock" button toswitch off the warning signal.

Super coolingSuper cooling cools the refrigeratorcompartment as cold as possible forapprox. 6 hours. Then thetemperature set before super modeis automatically restored.Super cooling is recommendedespecially:- before placing large quantities

of food in the refrigeratorcompartment.

- to cool drinks quickly.

Switch on super cooling1. Press the "select" button until

a triangle is indicated on therefrigerator compartmentdisplay panel.

2. Then press the "super/quickice" button. "SU" and "super"are indicated on the displaypanel.

Super freezingIn order to retain the vitamins,nutritional value, appearance andflavour food should be frozen asquickly as possible. Vitamins,nutritional values, appearance andtaste are therefore retained.To prevent an undesirabletemperature rise when placing freshfood in the freezer compartment,switch on fast freeze several hoursbeforehand.As a rule, 4-6 hours is adequate.If max. freezing capacity is to beutilised, 24 hours are required.Smaller quantities of food can befrozen without fast freeze.

Switching on super freezing1. Press the "select" button until

a triangle is indicated on thefreezer compartment displaypanel.

2. Then press the "super" button."SU" and "super" are indicatedon the display panel.

Switching off super freezing1. Reselect freezer compartment

area.

2. Then press the "super/quickice" button. "SU" and "super"goes out on the display panel.

"super freezing" switches offautomatically after approx.2Y_ days.

Special functions[timer]You can use this function to seta time cycle of 0-99 minutes anda signal reminds you, e.g. if food isto be removed from thecompartment after a certain time.A value of 20 minutes has beenpreset at the factory.

Drinks bottles may crack if theyare stored for longer than20 minutes in the freezercompartment.

Switching on the [timer]1. Press the "options" button until

[timer] is selected with a triangle.2. Activate by pressing the "+"

selection button (function isframed).

3. Press the "+" and "-" selectionbuttons to set the required time.(Repeatedly press the button tochange the time in one minuteintervals. Holding down thebutton increases the timeintervals.)

4. Press the "options" button tostart the time cycle.

Ending a function [timer]To stop the function, simultaneouslypress the "+" and "-" selectionbuttons for 3 seconds.Note

Repeatedly press the button tochange the time in one minuteintervals. If the button is held down,the time changes in 3 minutesintervals.

[eco]The [eco] function switches theappliance to energy-saving mode.The appliance automatically sets thefollowing temperatures:Refrigeratorcompartment: 43 F (+6 C)Freezer compartment: 3 F (-16 C)Switching on the [eco]1. Press the "options" button until

[eco] is selected with a triangle.2. Activate by pressing the "+"

selection button (function isframed).

Switching off the [eco]1. Press the "options" button until

[eco] is selected with a triangle.2. Deactivate by pressing the "-"

selection button (function is nolonger framed).

[vacation]If leaving the appliance for a longperiod of time, you can switch theappliance over to the energy-savingholiday mode. The temperature inthe refrigerator compartment isautomatically switched over to57 F (+14 C).

Do not store any food in therefrigerator compartment while invacation mode!

Switching on the [vacation]1. Press the "options" button until

[vacation] is selected witha triangle.

2. Activate by pressing the "+"selection button (function isframed).

Switching off the [vacation]1. Select [vacation] function until

a triangle is displayed.2. Switch off by pressing the "-"

selection button (function is nolonger framed).

[clock]The time is indicated on the timedisplay panel. The time can be setwith the [clock] function.

Setting the time1. Press the "options" button until

[clock] is selected witha triangle.

2. Activate by pressing the "+"selection button (function isframed).Press the "+" or "-" selectionbuttons to set the required time.Press the "options" button tosave the setting time.

[IWD off]You can use this function to switchoff the ice and water dispenser.

Before switching off the ice maker,it is most important that youswitch the water supply to theappliance off for a few hours.

Empty and clean ice cube container.Re-attach the ice cube container.Ensure that the ice cube containerengages with the support.

Switching off [IWD oft]1. Press the "options" button until

the [IWD off] function is selectedwith a triangle.

2. Activate by pressing the "+"selection button (function isframed).

Switching on [IWD oft]1. Press the "options" button until

the [IWD off] function is selectedwith a triangle.

2. Press the "-" button (function isnot framed).

[quick ice]You can use this function toaccelerate the production of icecubes.

Switching on and off

Press the "super/quick ice" button(only functions if the freezercompartment, refrigeratorcompartment and "cool-fresh"drawer displays have not beenselected on the display panel).

activated,thepowerof yourapplianceis increasedintermittently.Thisincreasestheenergyconsumption.

[filter change]After 6 months you are prompted viathe [filter change] display messageto change the water filter cartridge.

Activating the function

To reactivate the [filter change]function after changing the filter:1. Change water filter cartridge

(see chapter entitled "Waterfilter").

2. Press the "options" button untilthe [filter change] function isselected with an arrow.

3. Press selection button "-" or"+"." [filter change] display goesout.

Purchasing andstoring deep-frozen foodWhen purchasing deep-frozen food,comply with the following:- Check that the packaging is not

damaged.- Check the sell-by date.- The temperature of the

supermarket freezer should be0 F (-18 C) or lower.If not, the storage life of the foodis reduced.

Purchase deep-frozen food last.Wrap in newspaper or place ina cold bag and take home.At home immediately place deep-frozen food in the freezercompartment. Use the deep-frozen food before the sell-bydate runs out.Do not refreeze thawed food.Exception: If you use the food tomake a ready meal (boiling orfrying), you can refreeze thisready meal.

Thawing frozenfood

Do NOT refreeze food which isbeginning to thaw or which hasalready thawed. Food cannot berefrozen until it has been prepared(boiled or fried).No longer store the frozenproduce for the max. storageperiod.

Depending on the type of food andintended use, frozen produce canbe thawed as follows:

- at room temperature,- in the refrigerator,

- in an electric oven with/withouthot-air fan,

- in the microwave.

Ice and waterdispenserRemove where necessary:- cooled water,- crushed ice,- ice cubes.

To avoid risk of injury, never reachinto the ice cube dispenseropening!

Do not place bottles or food in thecube container in order to coolthem quickly. The ice maker mayblock and be damaged.

Using the ice and waterdispenserThe ice and water dispenser onlyworks when the appliance isconnected to the water mains.

When the appliance has beenswitched on, it takes approx.24 hours until the first batch ofice cubes are ready.When the appliance has beenconnected, there are still air bubblesin the lines.

Run off drinking water and pouraway until water can be dispensedwithout bubbles. Pour away the first5 glasses.When using the ice maker forthe first time, do not use the first30-40 ice cubes for reasons ofhygiene.

Operating the icemakerWhen the freezer compartment hasreached its freezing temperature,water flows into the ice maker andfreezes into ice cubes. When the icecubes are ready, they areautomatically discharged into the icecube container.Occasionally the sides of the icecubes stick together. When they areconveyed to the outlet opening, theyusually break away from each other.When the ice cube container is full,ice making switches offautomatically.The ice maker can make approx.170 ice cubes within 24 hours.When ice cubes are being made,the buzzing water valve, the waterflowing into the ice cube tray and thefalling ice cubes can be heard.

Observing drinkingwater qualityAll materials used in the drinksdispenser are odourless andtasteless.If the water has an aftertaste, thismay be caused by:- Mineral and chlorine content of

the drinking water.- Material of the domestic water

line or connection line.

- Freshness of the drinking water.If water has not been dispensedfor a long time, the water mayhave a "stale" taste. In this casedispense approx. 15 glasses ofwater and pour away

Taste and odour of the water may beimproved by installing the enclosedwater filter in the water supply.

The enclosed water filter will filteronly particles out of the supplywater, not bacteria or microbes.

behind the ice cube tray for5 seconds - ice cube maker isswitched off.

O Empty and clean ice cubecontainer. Re-attach the icecube container. Ensure that theice cube container engages withthe support.

Water filter

Do not use the appliance in placeswhere the water quality is risky ornot sufficiently known aboutwithout suitable disinfection,before and after filtering.

A filter cartridge for filtering particlescan be obtained from customerservice.

The water filter should be replacedafter six months at the latest.

After 6 months you are prompted viathe [filter change] display messageto change the filter cartridge.

Important informationconcerning the waterfilter

After use, the water system issubject to low pressure.Be careful when removing thefilter!

Rinse the water system throughif the appliance has not beenused for a long period, or if thewater tastes or smellsunpleasant. In addition to this,draw water from the waterdispenser for several minutes.If the unpleasant taste or smellpersists exchange the filtercartridge.

Exchanging the filtercartridgeAfter 6 months you are prompted viathe [filter change] display messageto change the filter cartridge (seechapter entitled Special functions).Take out the filter cartridge asfollows:

o Insert new filter cartridge.o Draw a gallon of water from the

water dispenser. Doing thisremoves air from the watersystem.

o Pour water out of the used filtercartridge. The filter cartridge canbe disposed of in the householdrubbish.

Eliminating minor faults yourselfBefore you call customer service:- Please check whether you can eliminate the fault yourself based on the following information.- Run an appliance self-test (see Appliance self-test).Customer service will charge you for advice, even if the appliance is still under guarantee.

Condensation forms on thedischarge unit of thedispenser.

The environment is to humide. Switch on the condensation heating.

To switch off the condensation heating:press the switch to "0".

The interior light is notfunctioning.

The light switch for the freezer orrefrigerator compartment is sticking.

Check whether the light switch canmove.

The LED light is defective. See "LED light" section.

The appliance becomesslightly louder for a briefperiod.

Not a fault! Your appliance is designed to save energy. Under certainconditions (e.g. activation of the Super function) the appliance must workharder for a brief period and therefore becomes slightly louder.
