Information for Parents

Healthy eating habits start from young, and it is important to teach your child about the consequences of putting unhealthy foods into their bodies as well as being educated

However, studies have shown that kids aged 4-10 consume on average 61 grams A DAY! That is more than twice the recommended amount for your child. Most of the child’s intake of sugar comes from consumption of sweetened-drinks [Retrieved from SACN] Therefore, i t is important to understand the effects of sweetened drinks on your child and the measures that could be done to resolve it .

How does sugar affect your child?

" Increases the risk of gaining weight and developing type 2 diabetes when older

" Higher chance of dental cavities " Bad habit formed from addiction to sugar, which lead into

Children aged 7 to 10 should be limited to only 24 grams of sugar a day. That is approximately 6 teaspoons of sugar. [According to Scientific

1. In the next few pages you will be able to note your

drinking habits and track down your consumption of different types of drinks.

2. After you have drunk a cup of water you may put a

sticker on the blue water droplet.

3. Put a sticker on the green water droplet if you’ve drank a drink that is not too high in sugar

4. Draw an X on the brown water droplet if you’ve drank a drink that is too high in sugar!

Collect as many stickers as possible!
