Bonnie Parker:❏ Bonnie Parker was born on October 1, 1910 in Rowena,

Texas.❏ When Bonnie was just four her father passed away and

Bonnie along with her family moved in with her grandparents in Cement City.

❏ Bonnie attended Cement City School and was an excellent student and loved to write poetry which helped with her fame in the future.

❏ In 1926, Bonnie married Roy Thornton who she loved very much. Roy began to run away from home and two years later was caught for robbery and sentenced for 5 years but they never divorced.

❏ While Ron was away, Bonnie was a waitress but lost her job in 1929 as the Depression was getting started.

Clyde Barrow:❏ Clyde was born on March 24, 1909 in Telico, Texas❏ Clyde’s parents were tenant farmers and therefore didn’t

make enough money so Clyde was often sent to live with relatives.

❏ When Clyde was 12 he moved to West Dallas where his dad opened up a gas station.

❏ West Dallas was a rough neighborhood and Clyde fit right in. Clyde and his older brother were often getting in trouble with the law for stealing things like cars and turkeys.

❏ He had two serious girlfriends(Anne and Gladys) but never got married.

❏ Clyde wasn’t very bright and never made it past the fifth grade.

❏ In 1929 Clyde was arrested and shortly let go, but it was the last break Clyde would ever get.

Bonnie and Clyde Meet:❏ Bonnie and Clyde met at a mutual friend’s house in

January of 1930.❏ Bonnie was 19 and married, and Clyde was 21 and

unmarried❏ They were instantly attracted to one another❏ A few weeks after they met Clyde was arrested for

burglary and sent to jail, and escaped using a gun Bonnie smuggled to him.

❏ Clyde was recaptured and sent back to jail where he cut off two of his toes in hopes of being released.

❏ In February,1932, Clyde was granted early parole and resumed a life of crime with Bonnie.

❏ Bonnie knew that staying with Clyde would mean death to them both, but her love for him was so strong that she stayed loyal to Clyde until the end.

Their Death:❏ Bonnie and Clyde were shot to death in an encounter with Texas

Rangers and Sheriff’s deputies near Sailes, Bienville Parish, Louisiana on May 23, 1934.

❏ They were said to be traveling 85 mph into a carefully-laid trap.❏ The Rangers riddled them and their car with a deadly hail of bullets,

which the officers followed it up by pouring even more bullets since they didn’t want to take any chances.

❏ Bonnie and Clyde died with weapons in their hands prepared to kill.❏ Their car was a traveling arsenal and contained 3 submachine guns,six

automatic pistols, one revolver, two sawed-off automatic shotguns and enough ammunition for a siege.

❏ Barrow was suspected of numerous killings and wanted for murder, robbery and state charges of kidnapping.

Bonnie’s Poetry❏ wrote poetry when she was younger, was known for

being quite good by her teachers.❏ wrote while on the run with Clyde, The Trail’s End &

Why are they so famous?❏ The General attitude in the country was against

the law. (Rebellious towards the government).❏ Not really seen as mass murderers. Their image

was seen more as “Robin Hood”.❏ People liked to see a young couple running from

“the big bad law”.❏ Bonnie’s poetry enchanted many.❏ During the Great Depression people lived difficult

lives, some thought that they lived a life of luxury or on an adventure.

Their Lasting Legacy:❏ Bonnie and Clyde Festival: held in Gibsland, Louisiana at

the end of May around the same time they were ambushed. They celebrate with food, music and re- enactments.

❏ Hybristophilia is a philia about being attracted to someone who has committed and/or identified with crime such as rape and murder. It’s also commonly known as “Bonnie and Clyde Syndrome”.

❏ Was named the #1 Crime Duo by Time Magazine.❏ Any modern day crime couple are called “Bonnie and

Clyde”.❏ Known as a fantasy: two lovers on the run
