Uyuni Salt Lake The Salar de Uyuni or “salt flats” shouldn’t be missed as it is a unique place in the world. The terrain in this area and the desert areas beyond is harsh and conditions are basic so you should not expect a lot of comfort - but the rewards are well worth it. No one knows how much salt makes up the salt flats but it is estimated at many millions of tons and it has been widely publicised in recent years as the world's largest source of lithium. Apart from the incredible salt flats (salar de Uyuni) themselves we will visit red and green coloured lakes with flocks of flamingos, hot geyser fields, hot springs and pass by barren volcanic landscapes with surreal rock formations. Day 1 We leave La Paz in the evening for an overnight transfer by luxury air conditioned coach. (Coach) Day 2 We arrive at Uyuni at about 0700. There will be an opportunity to wash and shower before we head out to visit the salt lake with its intricate shaped salt sculptures and water holes in a 4x4 vehicle. You can try your skills trick photography which can produce some amusing results with the infinite horizon that the flats produce. We will also visit Fish Island and the Valley of the Cactus before heading to overnight at a salt refuge in Puerto Chuvica village. (Refuge)

Day 3 Today we continue the tour via the mirador of South Lipez Highlands, Ollague Volcano, Kañapa and Hedionada lagoons, Siloli Desert, Stone tree, Eduardo Avaroa National Park reserve, and Red Lagoon. Overnight at Huaylla Jara (Lodge) Day 4 We begin today with a tour to the geysers, boiling mud springs and thermal waters before breakfast. We can enjoy panoramic views of Dali’s Rocks formations from the edge of the road. We continue to Green Lagoon with splendid views of the Likankabur volcano. Our return to return to Uyuni is via the Red Lagoon, Villa Mar, Valley

of the Rocks, Alota and San Cristóbal. We return to Uyuni at 1800. Time for a meal before boarding the overnight bus back to La Paz. (Bus) Day 5 Arrive back in La Paz about 0800. Transfer to a hotel.

The Amazon Basin Please note you would need Malaria tablets for this extension The northern mountains of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real extend to meet the Amazon creating a unique eco-system. It is only a short flight to the Amazon basin where you will be able to explore the jungle with our local guide on foot and by traditional boat. You will have the chance to observe several species of monkey, crocodiles, turtles and pink river dolphins together with a spectacular array of birds and the amazing setting sun. The more adventurous can go piranha fishing and swim in the lagoons. Day 1 We take an internal flight of about one hour from La Paz to Rurrenabaque. We leave by motorized vehicle towards Las Pampas, Santa Rosa, and the Port of River Yacuma, where after lunch we will take a motor boat towards our camp in Las Pampas. On the way, we will have the chance to observe the local fauna and flora, like capiwaras, several species of monkeys, black caiman, yacarés or crocodiles, the biggest bird of Las Pampas (yavirú or bato), turtles or petas, pink river dolphins and a variety of birds. Dinner will be served in the evening. (Camp) Day 2 Using a combination of walks and boat rides we explore the surrounding area. We visit the lagoons to observe and to look for anacondas and lizards. After lunch back at camp we head to more lagoons to swim with the pink dolphins, try our hand at piranha fishing, and in the late afternoon watch observe the setting of the sun before returning to the camp in time for dinner. This evening there is a night walk to look for the glowing eyes of the crocodiles and caiman. If possible the guide will catch a small crocodile and he will be able to explain about its

way of life. No harm is done to the crocodile – or the guide! (Camp) Day 3 We awake early to catch the morning chorus of the birds as we watch the sun rise over the forest, a delightful pre breakfast experience. Cusco and Machu Picchu You can choose to make the journey between La Paz and Cusco either via a full day transfer by luxury coach or a short flight to for a visit to the architectural wonders of the ancient Inca people. You will stay in comfortable hotel accommodation and have time to explore Cusco before taking the classic train ride from Ollantaytambo to experience the unique and mysterious civilization of Machu Picchu. A fitting and leisurely end to your expedition. This is our recommended shortest itinerary. You may like to add extra nights to visit Lake Titicaca, explore Cusco, walk the Inca Trail, go rafting, mountain biking, pony trekking, canoeing, paddle-boarding.... Please call us to discuss the options and for a quote. Day 1 Travel to Cusco by land or air. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. If arriving by air, there will be time for you to join a guided tour of some of the Inca sites in and near Cusco such as the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the great huaca of Q’enko, the less-visited Salumpuncu, and the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay (B, Hotel) Day 2 We drive to the Urubamba (Sacred) Valley, visiting the colourful Indian market in Pisac where the mixture of colour and tradition is a delight to see, Chincheros and Ollantaytambo. The Valley starts just 30km from Cusco at an altitude of 2970m. Pisac is located to the entrance of the Sacred Valley and at the far end of the valley is the older town of Ollantaytambo. The narrow streets of Ollantaytambo have not changed since the time of the Inca. From Ollantaytambo we take the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo town, nestled in the valley below the ruins, where we stay for night. Day 3 We take the first shuttle bus up to Machu Picchu so we can enjoy the first hour or so away from the crowds that arrive later in the morning. There will be a full guided tour, with time to climb Huyana Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (due to permit restrictions, please let us know when

booking if you want to include one of these - extra cost applies). If you prefer you can simply wander through the ruins at your leisure, soaking up the amazing atmosphere. In the afternoon, we board the train back to Ollantaytambo where our waiting bus whisks us back to Cusco and our hotel. In the evening, if we have the energy, we can explore Cusco’s excellent nightlife Day 4 At a convenient time we transfer to the airport for flight to Lima and onward.
