Germany: 2015/2016 Project Overview Flight Simulator at the German Technology Museum Berlin

– STEM education for all ages Project launched by Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia in 2015, opened in May 2016 In partnership with the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin All visitors have the opportunity to experience flight first-hand Ultimate goal is to align with the Berlin curriculum of science education for school children

Impact: Strong co-operation of cross-European partners enabled this project to attract over 1,500 students and 75 teachers and inspire them to take to the skies and continue the pursuit of STEM topics.

Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung - German Children and Youth Foundation “Learning to Fly”, Hohenlimburg and Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia

Working with preschools and elementary schools, this program establishes Science Learning Labs and supports teachers’ professional development in science education

From 2006 – 2013, Learning Labs were initiated in Berlin and in Frankfurt; in 2015 a Learning Lab was established in Hohenlimburg

In 2016 best practices were developed and will be disseminated in 2017 by trained local teachers to other areas in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia

Impact: Since 2006, this project has impacted and improved the science education received by 8,250 students in Germany and has assisted with the professional development of over 350 primary and elementary school teachers.

Impact: Boeing has supported this project since 2014; the project has grown from 500 children to over 1,500 this year, with the addedprofessional development of over 150 teachers in the Berlin area.

Umwelt-Detektive – Environmental Detectives Berlin volunteers take school children, especially from disadvantaged neighborhoods, on

outdoor excursions to learn about the natural world and the importance of the ecosystem The 2017 project will expand to extracurricular hours, to provide even more educational

opportunities to participants and their families, particularly for refugees in Germany

Impact: Previous years of support for this project have seen results of over 350 pupils per year. In 2017, the project will target families as well, encouraging environmental values and education at home.
