Before tuner assembly1. Verify that the cavity is under vacuum and it’s in its neutral position.2. The cavity must be held by 4 safety rods between the 2 tank rings

and across the bellow. Rod pairs are joint by a connecting plate.

3. An RF engineer should measure and record the cavity frequency.

4. All tuner mechanical parts, including screw and nuts and excluding piezo stacks, must be cleaned before assembly. Standard Ultrasonic cleaning or hand wiping can be used.

5

Piezo and main body assembly1. Screw the reinforcing ring (# 16) to the half tuner ring (# 2) using the

M8x30 screws and elastic washers . Match the existing numbering (picture on the left).

2. Install the piezo stack (#17) on the reinforcing rings with the required screw (see DWG 443662 for the part list).

3. Verify that the piezo supports are lined up with the double blade pack (picture on the right).

Page 6: Blade Tuner assembly

6

3. Insert both the M8 screws (#18 and #9) on the corresponding threaded holes in the He tank pick-up side ring. Insert also a M8 nut on each screw on the inner side of the ring.

Page 7: Blade Tuner assembly

7

4. Install the A-frame to support the cavity pads

5. Completely remove the safety rods and their connecting plate.

Page 8: Blade Tuner assembly

8

6. Put the lower half tuner (#1), already assembled with its reinforcing ring (#16) and piezo (#17), on place.

7. Verify the orientation of the half tuner:the driving unit support is below the 2-phases pipethe piezo supports are facing the M8 piezo support screw

8. Fix by hand the BT half to the helium tank ring.

Page 9: Blade Tuner assembly

9

9. Insert the two safety M8 rods (#8 and #9) between the lower half-tuner and the He tank ring. NB: 3 nuts must be inserted between the tank ring and the tuner (one nut close to the tuner and the double nut close to the ring) and 2 additional nuts off the tank ring.

10. Verify that:- the two drive unit supports correctly face one another- the second piezo support faces the piezo support screw

Page 10: Blade Tuner assembly

10

12. Insert and fix by hand the 2 M8x30 screws (#12) and elastic washers (#11) between the reinforcing half-rings and the BT halves.

13. Insert the remaining 2 safety rods and nuts (#8 and #9) .

Page 11: Blade Tuner assembly

11

17. Install the 4 connecting plates (#6) across the two BT halves and fix them by tool with the M8 conical head screws (#10).

12

18. Firmly fix by tool all the screws.

An RF engineer should measure and record the cavity frequency

Motor installation

13

1. Hand tighten the nuts on the safety rods.2. Insert the 2 small ball-bearings for the motor pivot in their place in the gearbox

housing (DWG 080645 , #14) 3. Put the motor on place and fix it loosely inserting the two motor pivot (DWG 886425,

# 2).4. Adjust the nut position on the CuBe screw so that it corresponds to the center

position of the support hole. If necessary remove the motor from the support, rotate the screw and put the motor back.

Page 14: Blade Tuner assembly

4. Insert the nut ball-bearings (DWG 890645: #15)They should fit in easily if the nut has been properly placed along the screw.

5. Place the snap rings on nut spindles (DWG 890645: #20)6. Fix the 6 M4 motor pivot screws (DWG 886425: #3)

14

Page 15: Blade Tuner assembly

Piezo pre-tuning1. Verify that the cavity is supported through the pads and the safety

nuts are released.2. Move the piezo screw by hand till it touches the piezo support3. Measure the frequency of the cavity4. Add the required preload to the piezo tightening the screw of about ¼ of a

turn on each side per time. (1/4 turn increases the frequency of about 40-50 kHz)

5. Measure the final frequency6. Fix by hand all 4 the safety nuts for each safety rod (if you need).

15

Page 16: Blade Tuner assembly

Safety nuts release1. This is the last procedure concerning BT installation.2. Verify that the cavity is supported through the pads.3. A calibrated clearance of 0.5 mm must be set between all the safety nuts

(2 pair for each of the 4 rods) and the He tank ring on both inner and outer sides.

4. Screw both inner and outer nuts in order to fit a 0.5 mm spacer between the He tank ring and the first nut. Then screw also the second nut against the first one and fix the double nut in position.
