  • To return to your email design, click Insert. The text now appears as a hyperlink that recipients can click to viewthemessage on a web page. You do not manually create the page the email message appears on and you cannotopen it in Pages & templates. The program automatically renders your HTML email design to display themessage and you can only access it from the link in themessage. When you use the HTML editor to create a link in a layout or Formatted Text and Images part, newView desktopversion and Viewmobile version options appear. To use either option, enter text to appear as the link, such as"View desktop version," and select the text. Next, click Link on the Insert tab. The page link screen appears. SelectCreate link to special page and in the Page field, select View desktop version or Viewmobile version.

    2 CHAPTER 1

  • To return to your layout or part design, click Insert. The text now appears as a hyperlink that users can click toview the desktop or mobile version of your content, according to your selection. To allow users to togglebetween the desktop and mobile versions, insert links to both options. When you create a link on a Menu part, newView desktop version and Viewmobile version options appear. Touse either option, select a menu item or add a new item, such as "Viewmobile version."Next, click the binocularsin the Link field. The page link screen appears. Select Create link to special page and in the Page field, select Viewdesktop version or Viewmobile version.

    NEW FEATURES 3

  • To return to your Menu part design, click OK. When you include themenu part on a page, themenu itemappears as a hyperlink that users can click to view the desktop or mobile version of the page , according to yourselection. To allow users to toggle between the desktop and mobile versions, include a menu item for eachoption.

Note: To include a link to themobile version of your content, you must first create a mobile optimized layoutand style sheet.

Page Design ImprovementYou can now quickly add a new Formatted Text andImages part on the page design screen. When you edit apage, a newAdd Formatted Text & Images option appears for content panes.

    4 CHAPTER 1

  • Tip: The Add Formatted Text & Images option also now appears on the template design screen.

Select this to create the new part. When you do this, part properties automatically save and the part opens tothe Design tab. After you design the part and save it, you return to the page design screen and the part appearson the page. When you create a Formatted Text and Images part this way, the part name defaults to "[page name]content". For example, if the page name is "Home page", the part name is "Home pagecontent". To changethe name, edit the Part name field on the part's Properties tab.

PartsThe following Parts enhancements are available. For more information, see the Parts Guide.

Part Type Task Group RightsIn Users &security, Task groups, you can now apply part task group rights to individual part types, such asFormatted Text and Images and Donation Forms. This provides two new security benefits.

l You can grant create rights to a specific part type without granting create rights for any other part type. You could not do this previously.

l You can grant full rights to a specific part type so users can edit any part of that type in your database. Toaccomplish this in previous versions, you had to grant full rights to all part types or grant edit rights on apart by part basis.

When you create or edit a site task group, three new options appear under Part tasks. Use these options toapply the selected part rights to all parts or individual parts.

    NEW FEATURES 5

  • To apply the rights to all parts, select All parts. To apply the rights to a select number of content managementparts, select Content management parts and select the checkbox beside each applicable part that appears. Toview a list of every part type in Blackbaud NetCommunity, select Individual parts. To apply the rights, select thecheckbox beside each applicable part in the list.

Tip: When you upgrade to this version, part type task rights default to All parts for each site task group.

It is important to remember the following information about part type task rights and the Targeting & securitytab on each part.

l The Targeting &security tab works independently from the part type task rights feature. The part typetask group provides a way for you to easily assign a specific set of rights to a specific part type. When youassign these rights to a role such as content authors, users in that role have the same rights for all parts ofthat type in your database. The Targeting & security tab continues to provide a way to target websitecontent to certain users on a part by part basis. For example, on a Formatted Text and Images part, you

    6 CHAPTER 1

  • can assign view rights to the Board Members role so only users in that role can view the part on a webpage.

l The rights you grant on the Targeting & security tab and in the part type task group can override eachother. The set of rights that grants themost accessibility to users takes precedence. For example, youprovide view rights to the Donation Form part type in a task group. On the Annual Fund Donation Formpart, you provide edit rights on the Targeting & security tab. Users in the applicable roles can edit theAnnual Fund Donation Form part, but can only view other Donation Form part types. This is consistentwith existing functionality for the Targeting & security tab and other task group rights.

Event Registration FormWe havemade several enhancements to the new Event Registration Form part released in BlackbaudNetCommunity 6.51. These enhancements include the ability to include participant attributes and a typedescription on your registration page. Review the information in this section for all the enhancement details.

    Process Changes

l The Receipt amt field on The Raiser's Edge gift record now includes the registration fee plus the additionaldonation amount, if applicable. Previously, this only included the registration fee. This change also applies to the Receipt amountmerge field in the acknowledgement email.

l You can now populate the registration page with biographical details such as name, address, phonenumber, and email address when you include a link to the event in query-based emails. To do this, youmust select Use email links to autofill forms in Sites &settings and make sure themessage's query-based email list uses Constituents as the data source. The program pulls data from constituent records topopulate the registration page even when users are not logged in to your website. When a recipient navigates to the event from the email message, the recipient's name appears as a link onthe registration page. The recipient clicks the link to autofill the biographical details.

Warning: If a recipient forwards the email and someone else navigates to the event from it, the originalrecipient's biographical details autofill the registration page.

Event Price OptionsIn the newDescription field that appears for each type, you can enter text to appear on the Step 1 Selection pagethat provides more information about the type. For example, you can enter VIP package information.

    NEW FEATURES 7

  • You can also enter HTML in theDescription fields to format and style text. For example, enter "Familypackages include 5 tickets and freeadmission to the hospitality room." so that "Family packagesinclude 5 tickets and free admission to the hospitality room." renders on page.

Registration OptionsUnder the new Registrant options section , you can now allow users to register additional guests as anonymous, and you can select biographical fields and participant attributes to appear on the web page.

    8 CHAPTER 1

  • l The newAllow anonymous checkbox appears for each event type so users can register additional guestsas anonymous when they do not knowwho is attending the event. When you select the checkbox,Register later appears on the Registration page for each additional registrant. When users select Register later, biographical fields and options remove for the additional registrant sothe user does not have to complete the information to submit the registration. On the Participants tab onthe event record in The Raiser's Edge, the registrant name now appears as "Guest of [Last name]". The lastname is the same as the cardholder's.Previously, the Register later checkbox appeared automatically. You could not select to remove it fromthe Registration page. Also, unknown, additional registrants appeared as "Anonymous" on theParticipants tab on the event record in The Raiser's Edge and you could not easily identify who paid for theregistrant.

l Under Field options and Participant attribute options, select the biographical fields and participantattributes to appear on the web page in the Include column. To change the text to appear on the web

    NEW FEATURES 9

  • page, enter it in the Caption field and to make it required, select its checkbox in the Require column. Tomove a participant attribute in the list, click and drag the dotted button on the far left.

Organization OptionsWhen you select Allow individual to register on behalf of organization, a grid now appears for you to selectthe fields that appear on the web page. To change the text that appears for the field, enter the text you want inthe Caption field and to make it required, select its checkbox in the Require column.

LinkedIn Group JoinWith the new LinkedIn Group Join part, you can invite users to join your LinkedIn groups. After users join agroup, the part displays an option to view it on LinkedIn.

Show Me: Watch a video about the new LinkedIn Group Join part.

LinkedIn API InformationTo process information on this part, you must enter the keys, token, and secret for your LinkedIn application. Todo this, a new LinkedIn section appears on the API tab for organization settings in Sites &settings.

Note: For more information about LinkedIn applications, visit the LinkedIn Developer Network.

  • Part DesignThe Design tab for the LinkedIn Group Join part includes a LinkedIn groups grid for you to add the group URLsyou want to display on the web page. These URLs must include the group's ID.

After you select the groups to include, under Design, use the HTML editor to design and format content for thegroups on the web page.

As you do this, includemerge fields to display group information and display the join and view options. Forexample, include the Join groupmerge fields so users can join a group on your web page, and include the Viewgroupmerge fields so users can then navigate to LinkedIn and view the group. There are several important items to remember as you design this content.

l The HTMLeditor default content includes themerge fields you need to display groups on the page. Whenyou customize the content for your page, you can style the part to display a header and you can style theJoin group and View groupmerge fields to appear as links or buttons.

l When you includemore than one group under LinkedIn groups, the program automatically repeats yourcontent design for each group you include. For example, you design and format the group section once. Ifyou include three groups in the grid, your content appears three times on the web page.

l To provide a join option on the web page, you must use the begin and end Join groupmerge fields, andto provide a view option, you must use the begin and end View groupmerge fields. If the user is not inthe group, the join option appears. If the user is in the group, the view option appears.

    NEW FEATURES 11

  • l Make sure all of the text you include applies to the join option and the view option. The program rendersthe Join group and the View groupmerge fields based on whether the website user has joined a group, but the rest of your content in the HTMLeditor is the same on the page.

Web PageYou can include the LinkedIn Group Join part on any web page such as your home or registration page. However,we recommend you include the part on the page users navigate to after registering or logging in to your website. This way, when a user joins your LinkedIn group, the user's profile information processes to the constituentrecord in The Raiser's Edge. When you place the part on a page, one of three scenarios happens on the part.

l Awebsite user does not have a constituent record in The Raiser's Edge and registers as a member of yourwebsite. The user then clicks the option to join your LinkedIn group. After the user joins the group onyour page, the view option appears. When the user clicks this, the group appears in a newwindow or tabon LinkedIn.When the user registers as a member of your site, a transaction processes to The Raiser's Edge to create aconstituent record for the user. Once you process the transaction so the constituent record exists, andafter The Raiser's Edge integration service schedule runs, the user's LinkedIn profile URL appears on theconstituent record. On the Bio 1 tab, you can view it in the Phones/Emails/Links grid. For moreinformation, see the LinkedIn Profile URL in The Raiser's Edge section below.

l Awebsite user has a constituent record in The Raiser's Edge and is also a member of your website. Whilelogged into your website, the user clicks the option to join your LinkedIn group. After the user joins thegroup on your page, the view option appears. When the user clicks this, the group appears in a newwindow or tab on LinkedIn.This automatically processes the user's LinkedIn profile URL to the constituent record in The Raiser's Edge.On the Bio 1 tab, you can view it in the Phones/Emails/Links grid.

l Awebsite user has a constituent record in The Raiser's Edge and is also a member of your website. However, the user is not logged into your site and clicks the option to join your LinkedIn group. After theuser joins the group on your page, the view option appears. When the user clicks this, the group appearsin a newwindow or tab on LinkedIn.

JoinWhen a user is not in a group, the join option appears on the page based on your HTMLeditor design. The following graphic is an example of the part on the side of the page. It includes a header, group text, and a joinbutton.

    12 CHAPTER 1

  • ViewWhen a user is in a group, the view option appears on the page. It uses the same HTMLeditor design asthe join option. The following graphic is an example of the part on the side of the page. It includes a header, group text, and a view button.

Note: The Join group and View groupmerge fields generate the join and view options on your page. If the useris not in a group, the join option automatically appears. If the user is in a group, the view option automaticallyappears.

LinkedIn Profile URLin The Raiser's EdgeWhen a website user does not have a constituent record in The Raiser's Edge and registers as a member of yourwebsite, a transaction processes to The Raiser's Edge to create a constituent record for the user. Once youprocess the transaction so the constituent record exists, and after The Raiser's Edge integration service scheduleruns, the user's LinkedIn profile URL appears on the constituent record. On the Bio 1 tab, you can view it in thePhones/Emails/Links grid.

    NEW FEATURES 13

  • You establish the The Raiser's Edge integration service schedule in Sites & settings. This service is not new andexists in previous versions of Blackbaud NetCommunity.

Note: When the website user has an existing record in The Raiser's Edge, the program automatically processesthe user's LinkedIn profile URL to the constituent record. The process does not use the The Raiser's Edgeintegration service schedule.

    14 CHAPTER 1

  • To provide the ability for the user's LinkedIn profile data to appear in the Phone type mapping grid, you mustmap the new LinkedIn profile URL Blackbaud NetCommunity phone type to a Raiser's Edge phone type. To dothis, the LinkedIn profile URL row now appears in on the General tab for organization settings in Sites &settings.

Tip: In The Raiser's Edge, you must configure the LinkedIn phone type as a Web Address/URL format. For moreinformation, see The Raiser's Edge Configuration and Security Guide.

User LoginOn the User Login part, you can now select whether to makeGender a required field. If you select Required, displays as the first menu item on the form and users are required to select a value. If you do notselect Required, an empty value displays as the first menu item and users are not required to select a value.

When you upgrade, the Required checkbox is no longer selected by default for new and existing User Login parts. If you prefer to require this information for existing User Login parts, make sure you edit the parts to select thecheckbox.

Note: This change also applies to the Fundraiser, Personal PageManager, and Profile Form parts.

    NEW FEATURES 15

  • FilesYou can now upload, store, and manage all files for your website in Files. From Site explorer, click Files to viewexisting files and add new files.

Files lets you upload and approvemultiple files at one time and gives you access to all Documents part files inone location. When you upload files, you can select where to store them or move files to a different folder at alater time to organize your content. On the Folders tab, a root Files folder appears. You cannot edit or delete this folder, but you can click Create anew folder to add subfolders as necessary. You can also create subfolders within subfolders, and you can move, rename, and delete folders as necessary. After you upload files, you can post them on web pages and create links to documents from Files. You can alsospecify which users and roles can view, upload, and manage files.

Documents PartWhen you upgrade to this version, Files automatically includes all files previously uploaded on a Documents part.A file appears in a folder that corresponds with the name of the part and retains the same security from the parton the Targeting & security tab in Files. When you view an existing Documents part or create a newDocuments part, you select the folder to store thepart's documents in Files.

    16 CHAPTER 1

  • Image Library RESTAPIImage library now includes RESTAPIfor your customization needs. This includes captions and qualified URLs foreach returned image, the ability to return a list of images in a folder, and the ability to return a list of images bytag. For more information, see the SDK / API Guide.

AdministrationThe following Administration enhancements are available. For more information, see the Administration Guide.

Primary Site URLRedirectsIn Sites &settings, the newAdditional site URLs grid exists in General site settings for you to include URLs thatyou want to redirect to your primary site URL.

  • For example, you can include URLs with typos or an abbreviation for your organization so that users whomistype the primary URLstill reach your site.

Note: When Blackbaud hosts your website and you need to add primary site URL redirects for a new BlackbaudNetCommunity domain, create a case on Case Central.

There are several important items to remember about alternate site URLs.

l You must register the domain URLs with a registrar in order for the redirects to render your primary URL. Ifyou do not, the redirects do not work.

l These URLs are 301 redirects that maintain search engine rankings for the primary site.

l You can enter the URLwith or without a protocol, such as "http://".

l The program validates each URL to make sure it is unique in Blackbaud NetCommunity. When you includea URL that already exists in the database, you cannot save it in the grid.

l It is important to remember the difference between these redirects and redirects you add inAdministration, URL redirects. In this grid, you enter website redirects for the primary website URL. Oneredirect can reroute a group of URLs. For example, you add http://yoursite.org to redirect to the primaryURL, http://www.yoursite.org. This redirects all http://yoursite.org URL requests, such ashttp://yoursite.org/donate and http://yoursite.org/aboutus, to the primary URL. In URL redirects, youadd page URLredirects to reroute traffic to another page. For example, you addhttp://yoursite.com/donate to redirect to http://www.yoursite.com/donate. This only redirects thedonation page. Be aware these URL redirects override the redirects you add in this grid.

    18 CHAPTER 1

  • User AccountsIn 6.51, theUser accounts setting was released on the General tab in Sites & settings. The organization settingallowed you to select whether to collect usernames and email addresses as separate fields, or only collect emailaddresses. In 6.53, the feature was removed and the setting to only collect email addresses was disabled toeliminate confusion caused by non-editable user ID labels in the program. Users who created accounts while thesetting was enabled can continue to use their email addresses as their usernames. New users can also use emailaddresses as usernames, but need to enter them in theUser ID and Email address fields when creatingaccounts.

Custom PartsIn Custom parts, you can now create custom content part types. A custom content part uses JavaScript andHTML to create the part editor and define how to display the part on a web page. You can use custom contentparts to create customizations such as slideshows, tabbed content, RSS Feed readers, accordion content, pop-upboxes, and callout boxes. To create a custom content part type, click New content part.

Note: Custom parts offer additional flexibility, but comewith additional complexity. We strongly recommendonly developers knowledgeable in all areas of customizations design them. This includes using writingHTMLand JavaScript code. Users without this expertise should not design these parts.

For more information, review Blackbaud NetCommunity Custom Content Parts or contact Professional Services.

Secure Payment Page for MobileThe secure payment page on the Blackbaud server now uses your style sheets, layouts, and templates to renderthe page on both desktop browsers and mobile devices. Previously, the page only rendered for desktopbrowsers. There are no UI changes in the program to support this enhancement. If you use style sheets, layouts, and templates to support mobile devices, the page automatically renders when a website user accesses it fromone.

Note: The Event Registration Form and Payment 2.0 parts use the secure payment page to process biographicalbilling information and payment information.

  • NetCommunity Page in The Raiser's EdgeNetCommunity Options in The Raiser's Edge includes multiple enhancements. On the NetCommunity Options screen, you can now filter event registration transactions by event name. To dothis, select Transaction Assignments from the tree view. Next, in the Transaction Type to manage field, selectEvent Registrations. In the Filter Type field, select Event Name.

Tip: When a person registers for multiple events and the transaction assignment assigns only one of the eventsto a security group, the event registration transaction appears for users in the security group. The transactionincludes each event registration so users can process them all to The Raiser's Edge.

From the new Relationships option, you can select an organization relationship option for the Event RegistrationForm part. When you select Relationships, theOrganization contact type for event registrants field appears onthe right. In the field, select a contact type to associate with the person who pays for an organization registrationon the Event Registration Form.

    20 CHAPTER 1

  • After you download an organization event transaction to The Raiser's Edge, the contact type you select appearsin the Contact type field on the Relationships tab on the organization record.

Note: The types that appear in the field integrate from the contact types table in The Raiser's Edge.

Email Bounces in The Raiser's EdgeIn The Raiser's Edge Query, under theNetCommunity node, the new Email Bounces node appears. Under thisnode, you can set criteria for Last Bounce Address, Last Bounce Date, and Last Bounce Error. Use this querycriteria to identify hard bounces. When you do, open the constituent record to verify the email address and ifnecessary, add a new email address. When you select the Last Bounce Error criteria, each error message prepends with "Hard" or" Soft." A hardbounce occurs when an email message is undeliverable. For example, the email address is invalid, the address isexpired, or themail server blocks all mail from the sender's domain. A soft bounce occurs when themessagereaches the recipients mail server but cannot be delivered. For example, the recipient's mailbox is full, themessage file size is too large, or there is a connection problem. A soft bounce is usually temporary.
