What is BUIP?

The Birmingham Undergraduate Internship Programme

(BUIP) offers unique internships within the University of

Birmingham during the summer vacation.

• Learn more about Higher Education as a career choice

• Gain an awareness of the various types of employment

options available in UoB

• Secure a structured internship experience

• Develop employability skills and on the job experience by

working in a ‘real-world’ environment

What do you get?

Successful interns will: Undertake a full structured work internship for

the designated period of time, paid to the level that

reflects the work you are undertaking

Build relationships and network with University

staff and other interns to support your professional

development

Get access to a tailored training programme

which includes professional etiquette in the

workplace, CV and interview skills and

presentation skills

Utilise the skills gained for not only your career

prospects but also your remaining degree study

The detail

• Open to undergraduate

students in their first, second or

penultimate year of study

– Not open to Postgraduate

and final year undergraduate

students

• Internships can last anything

between 4–12 weeks

• Able to apply for more than

one internship

• Interns required to submit a

blog as part of their experience

Hints and tips

Actually submit what is required (CV and covering letter)

Tailor your CV/covering letter to the opportunity you are applying for

Include suitable evidence/examples of how you meet the skills

required (specific and transferrable)

Highlight experiences from work and extra-curricular examples in

addition to academic achievements

Check spelling, grammar and formatting of your submission

Ensure your application is submitted as per the instructions on the

website/job advert (in Microsoft Word format, not PDF)
