    Mike: Im joined here today by Greg Kunin, o Ola Loa. Better known as Drink Your Vitamins Company.

    I understand you have a new product on the market Greg; can you tell us about that?

    Greg:Well, were very excited, its a product called Ola Loa SPOR. Its designed or people who have an

    active lie. Whether you are a soccer mom, to an extreme athlete. Our new product provides signicant

    nutrient support in an absolutely delicious drink that can be taken with or without ood, even on an empty

    stomach.

    Mike: Okay, so people may already be amiliar with your existing ormulation, which is the Ola LoaENERGY product.

    Greg:Well thats our oundation multivitamin product. It replaces over a dozen vitamin pills, and its

    providing therapeutic doses o vitamin C and trimethylglycine and glycine, all in gram doses.

    Mike: Lets talk about the qualitative dierence in your product than some o the others that are out there

    on the market.

    Greg: Well in large measure, up until Ola Loa came along, the only products that were available in

    powder orm were nothing more than vitamin C with usually ve or six grams o sugar. In act Ive seen a

    couple o other products that were as much as 90% sugar and very little nutrient support. Ola Loa was the

    rst company to actually go outside the box and say, how do we get qualitative nutrient support in a single

    packet?So, were providing your vitamins, your minerals, amino acids, digestives, in a powder orm. Unlike

    anything else on the market today.

    Mike:And also, even though your product uses the term energy, this is not based on the typical context

    o that word where other companies may put in caeine or other kinds o stimulants. Tis is more o a

    cellular energy, correct?

    Greg:Absolutely, we provide both the cellular energy with the use o coenzyme Q10 which is the key

    to energy production at the mitochondria. It is what really res the cell. O course then were providing

    muscle energy through the use o trimethylglycine and glycine and arginine. Tese key amino acids that

    produce SAM-e, which is muscle energy. Were not providing a stimulant. No caeine, no herbal stimulate

    o any sort.

    Mike:And yet the energy on this product is amazing! As a personal note, I put a package o Ola Loa

    energy into my morning smoothie everyday, and I drink blended cucumbers and celery, with some ruits

    as well, and Ill tell you just last night in my Capoeira class, I think I wore out two other people with some

    o the moves and I was ready or more. Te endurance on this is just unbelievable.

    Greg:Well, your bodys working better. What o course is really exciting about all our products is that

    we take into consideration an area o biochemistry thats known as methyltranserase. Tis is really - I

    think one the most important aspects o what Ola Loa is all about. My ather as you know has been in the

    medical proession or over ty years and has been one o the leaders in an area known as orthomolecular

    medicine. Some people would reer to it as a nutritional orientated approach to treating disease. Tis has

    really become the most signicant pathway that my ather has identied in all o the years that hes been

    in medical practice.

    I say that this is really your bodys major means o adaptation to whatever set o circumstances that youredealing with. o make a long story short, methylation is going on in every cell o your body and every

    organ o your body is dependent upon it. We are now able to identiy how well youre using your vitamins

    and how well your methylating process is working. Tis is where Ola Loa I think really shines because

    youre able to aect so many control mechanisms o the human body. o give you an overall perspective,

    methylating and methyl transer is responsible or your bodys energy - both on a cellular level and on a

    muscular level. So a number o key byproducts occur in the body rom creating production to carnitine

    production to even CoQ.

    So, or example, people are taking coenzyme Q, your body produces coenzyme Q10 and when youre

    methylating well your bodys ability to produce CoQ is also enhanced. So, youre getting an added benet on

    a cellular level. Methylation is also the key to healing and repair. Its the key to, or example, the production

    o neurotransmitters, aecting everything rom dopamine to norepinephrine, epinephrine, melatonin. So

    were talking about rom a physical standpoint, rom sleep, to just physical energy. Methylating is there to

    protect you and to make sure your body is working properly.

    Mike: So, i I understand you correctly, when were methylating correctly our bodies naturally produce

    many biochemically active compounds that are available as isolated nutritional supplements, such as

    SAM-e or DMG.

    Greg:Absolutely!

    Mike:What are some others that all into that category?

    CoQ10 and homocysteine implications or heart health

    Greg:Well, CoQ10 would be one; one o the big ones that were hearing now a lot about is in the area o

    the cardiovascular disease. People who are highly susceptible to cardiovascular disease have a problem in

    that they cant properly deal with homocysteine. Homocysteine is pretty hard to avoid, in so much as everytime you eat anything related to protein, whether it be cottage cheese, chicken, or sh, youre going to have

    an elevation o homocysteine. And or those people who are susceptible to the major diseases, heart disease,

    stroke, cancer, blood vessel damage, they have a problem in being able to detoxiy their homocysteine.

    And i you cant process your homocysteine, it becomes what is known as a pro-clotting actor; it actually

    starts to turn your blood and clot your blood. Tis, o course, is not something you want to have happening.

    It leads to major, major problems. In an extreme case, people have a huge steak dinner, or example, and

    come home and their blood pressure goes down and they go to sleep. Tese people dont wake up in the

    morning. Four hours ater the ingestion o the protein, thats when their homocysteine level peaks and you

    start to have cells that start to die, which ultimately leads to a catastrophic type o an event.

    Mike: Teres been a lot o research, even in the conventional medical community, about the correlation

    between homocysteine and cardiovascular events, including stroke I believe.

    Greg:Absolutely. Heart disease, stroke, cancer, blood vessel damage are all related to it. But this is just one.

    O course, what we also know is that your bodys normal adaptive process here plays in the role with the B

    vitamins: Folic acid, B12, B6, and it requires multiple coactors that make this transaction occur. Whereas,

    when youre methylating you only need one methylating enzyme. o eectively do the same thing it would

    take three other coactors to do it. So with a B vitamin, you have to have an adequate diet to be able toprocess homocysteine. A lot o people dont have an adequate diet. And a lot o people were now nding

    who are more susceptible have more o an impairment in that they have a problem with their biochemistry.

    Teir bodys ability to utilize their B vitamins is hampered through whats known as a genetic mutation.

    Now some people want to know, why is that the case? Well right now, no one really knows.

    Quality nutrients vs. junk vitamins

    Mike:Well, let me ask you this. o summarize that, youre saying that these methyl groups unction as

    sort o super adaptive compounds that are ar more eective at supporting methylation processes than, say,isolated B vitamins?

    Greg: Oh, certainly. But keep in mind that there is a relationship between getting adequate nutrient

    support and these methyl actors. What were now starting to see, or example, is that a lot o people are

    eating, but theyre not getting much nutrient support out o their ood. And they have these impairments

    where it makes it even more dicult or them to activate their vitamins. Te B vitamins in particular are

    notorious or having problems with absorption and utilization. Teres a mutation that my ather has been

    testing or in his medical practice thats known as theMTHFR, and this is basically a test to identiy how

    well your body is able to actively use your olic acid. And or a lot o these people, who are sick, they have

    these mutations and they have a more dicult time utilizing these B vitamins than somebody who has got

    their blood chemistry working better.

    Mike: So, or those people they really need to take advantage o dierent biochemical pathways?

    Greg: Well, think that its a couple o things, rst thing is nding a reliable source o comprehensive

    nutrition support, thats going to be something that you integrate into your daily lie. Tats what really

    led me to ound Ola Loa and to try and develop these ormulas. Because I started to recognize there was

    a problem: People have a very dicult time staying with the program; they have a dicult time taking

    handuls o pills. When youre doing pills, you can only get so much nutrient support in a single pill.

    And out o that single pill you can only absorb so much. And youre dependent upon stomach acids and

    a unctioning digestive system to be able to maximize getting those nutrients out o those pills. A lot o

    people, especially sick people, have a tough time. Teyll take pills, they wont eel good. Tey get stomach

    pain and they dont absorb their nutrients. So in essence, you know, its not uncommon or them to lose

    70 % or more o a tablet. So ater looking at it, you spend $1.00 on that vitamin pill; $0.70 is going down

    the drain.

    Mike: Ive heard stories o people passing those tablets through undigested.

    Greg: Its not uncommon. ablets, o course, are the worst. Capsules tend to be a little bit better. Te nice

    thing about Ola Loa is were able to provide a great deal o support, meaningul amounts. Youll actually

    eel the dierence. You dont have to go through the digestive trauma that you would go through in taking

    a handul o pills.

    Fillers and excipients in junk vitamins

    Mike: Te other thing is, that a lot o these pills rom other companies can be as much as 90% ller and

    excipients. Te active ingredient in there is minuscule.

    Greg: Oh, very small. In act, Im embarrassed in some respects when I look at the vitamin industry as a

    whole. It somewhat mimics the sot drink industry. I heard a talk one day rom a guy who said. i you want

    to be successul in the sot drink industry, you want to start up with the cheapest ingredients possible:

    water and sugar. Te key is to put as little active ingredient product as possible. Well, the exact same thing

    happens in the vitamin industry. Ive been amazed to see vitamin products that are being promoted with

    major ingredients on the ront o the label and you look at the back o the label where the supplement

    acts are and you realize that it has microgram doses, were talking a millionth o a gram, o a particular

    ingredient, and thats the eatured ingredient on the ront o the label. Its shocking to me.

    Mike:And oten the orms o some o those nutrients are not the best orms anyway. For example, can

    you talk about vitamin B12?

    Greg:Well, Ive mentioned it to you beore, this is something that I think makes Ola Loa stand out. Most

    o the vitamin B12 thats on the market today is known as cyanocobalamin. Its a toxic orm o vitamin

    B12 and most o the vitamin companies use it because its a cheaper orm o vitamin B12. Ola Loa provides

    a orm that is known as hydroxycobalamin, which your body can much more readily use and it doesnt

    leave poison in your body.

    Mike:Whats the cost dierence on this? Is it a actor o ten or what?

    Greg:Well, vitamin B12 is an expensive product no matter what just because o the process in which its

    ermented. You could spend as much as $6,000 more per kilo to get the better vitamin B12.

    Mike:Wow! Tat is an extremely valuable kilogram o nutrient right there.

    Greg: Well, the other problem too is that the cyano orm o vitamin B12 intereres with your bodys

    methylation pathway. And again, I come back to the act that methylation is so important because

    there are so many ways where people are being hit. You have exposure or example to fuoride, you have

    exposure to chlorine. Just drinking your water is putting poisons into your body which aects your

    methyl pathways. When you have exposure to more fuoride, i youre going to the dentist, or example,

    and having a fuoride treatment, you denitely want to make sure that youre getting those methyl

    donors, to be able to provide protection.

    Mike:Absolutely!

    Greg:You know, people dont realize fuoride is a toxic material - in act so toxic theres a warning label on

    every single tube o toothpaste. I you were, or example, to eed a tube o toothpaste to an eight- or 10-year-old child, theres a high likelihood that the child would die. From consuming one tube o toothpaste.

    You hear about people, or example, who will actually eat toothpaste.

    Mike: Right, its not uncommon.

    Greg: So, heres another reason why its great to have a product thats providing these methyl donors that

    play a role in so many, literally hundreds o chemical transactions that are taking place in the body. I

    mean, were talking, or example, rom cell energy, as I mentioned earlier, to healing, immunity, genetic

    expression and DNA. Were now seeing in the nutrition science eld, people are starting to realize that one

    o the major contributors to aging is methylation, or lack there o.

    Methyl group nutrients

    Mike: Now, which raw materials in your product contribute these methyl groups the most?

    Greg:Well, the really big one is the amino acid, which I mentioned earlier, and trimethylglycine, its also

    known as MG or betaine. It gets its name rom beets.

    Mike:You have a thousand milligrams in your energy product, how many beets would a person have to

    eat to get the equivalent amount o MG?

    Greg:You know, thats a great question Mike. I you want, I could probably put you on hold and get

    you that inormation, or email it to you a little later. We do have a thousand milligrams o course in our

    oundation multivitamin product, the Ola Loa ENERGY. In an eort to make our product more available

    and more aordable or people and or people who like to use our product throughout the day, more than

    once a day, we did create the new Ola Loa SPOR, which has a smaller amount o the MG in there. But

    we are nding that a lot o people are utilizing this sport product, sometimes up to three a day. I they do

    three a day theyre getting 750 milligrams o the MG and the glycine in the sport product.

    Te truth about most sports drinks

    Mike: Ive got a number o questions about this sport product. I love the act that you have a sport product,

    because the sport drinks that are on the market, you know the big brand name ones, Ive written about

    them beore, they are just junk. Mostly articial ood colors with water and some salt.

    Greg: Its a sot drink.

    Mike: It is!

    Greg: I mean, there are usually sot drink companies and theyre looking or another prot stream, and

    they do what they do best; they produce sot drinks. Some people o course are thinking that they are

    getting more than they really are. Tey are not really getting a nutrient-rich supportive product.

    Mike: No, not at all. Tey are just getting neon green water.

    Greg: Its a mystery to me.

    Mike:Yeah, me too. As we know, some athletes, especially body builders, will eat anything, I mean the

    craziest stu i it promises to pack on one more pound o muscle. Teyre not interested in health, theyre

    just interested in one result and thats, you know, muscle mass.

    Greg:Well, o course, we can also help them too. We can protect them rom the toxic side eects o

    being over-proteinized. Tis happens with a lot o body builders in particular. Ive heard stories rom body

    builders who get into competition and they will stop eating and only consume dried protein powder which

    puts an incredible, incredible load on their kidneys. Ola Loa and methylation again, plays a critical role in

    providing the kind o support you want to get i you happen to all into that category. At the same time,

    anybody who is working out will nd that their energy and endurance will go up, their connective tissuerepair will be enhanced and their body again will unction that much better just by integrating Ola Loa

    into their program.

    Mike: Now, Ive got a question or you about your energy product as well. You have 40 mineral complexes,

    CoQ10, the good B12, amino acids, plus a gram o MG, a gram o L-Glycine. When I open up this

    package and theres not that much powder in it, I mean, it must be 100% o active ingredients.

    Greg: Te active ingredients in Ola Loa are roughly 85%. I think what really surprises people is the act

    that theyve seen some other products that are out there that are primarily just vitamin C and they are

    usually anywhere rom 60-70% and as much as 90% sugar, these other products. People take a look at our

    products and theyre shocked. Tat there on the energy product we have a gram o ructose, which is such

    a small amount o sugar that it has virtually no eect on the glycemic index. Its the equivalent o having

    a bite o a pear, and also that small amount o ructose actually assists in being a carrier to taking the

    nutrients deep into the cell. You also nd, one o the neat things is that, amino acids taste pretty good.

    Mike:Yeah they do, dont they? I was eating some MG yesterday and thinking, this is pretty good stu.

    Greg: I think I mentioned to you in the past, one o the neat things that happen when you take our

    product - o course a lot o complexing occurs. Its a very reactive solution as it mixes and complexes withthe solution. Our vitamin C or example, becomes a buered orm o vitamin C. Te trimethylglycine as

    it gives o its rst methyl donor group; it has another donor group to give o ater that. Te MG goes

    through a transormation and becomes dimethylglycine, so youre getting the best o both worlds.

    Portable nutrition without the bulk o vitamin bottles

    Mike: Absolutely, and we could do a whole article about dimethylglycine, but lets move on. Ive got

    another comment; another question. My comment rst, is another thing I really like about your product is

    that its perect or both traveling and or sending to riends, because you can easily drop it into the mail,just put it in an envelope that youre sending out. But or traveling, whats wonderul about this is you

    know travel is a high stress endeavor, but you can buy a bottle o water at any airport, open it up and drop

    in Ola Loa powder. Youve got yoursel a antastic nutrient drink, without having to lug around a bottle o

    pills and some kind o liquid supplement.

    Greg:And o course you know the nice thing about it is, well rst you can bring it on board the aircrat

    with you, and theyll even give you the water or ree. But you know its interesting, it brings up another

    subject that is ready-to-drink vitamin liquids. Again, they promise everything and when you get down to

    it and take a look at these labels, they have very small amount o actual nutrients that are in there. More

    importantly, what else are they adding to it? Once they put it in solution they generally have to add things

    like sodium benzoate.

    Mike: I was thinking the same thing.

    Greg:Yeah, its a preservative, which unortunately when mixed with vitamin C it produces whats called

    benzene, which is another word or gasoline.

    Mike: Tats a very carcinogenic chemical.

    Greg:Yes, and thats one o the reasons why that Ola Loa has not produced anything in liquid orm,

    because o that problem.

    Te Ola Loa qualitative diference

    Mike:Well, thats a good point. I have looked at a lot o nutritional juices and you nd this to be especially

    prominent with the super ruits. You know, there are juices with mangosteen or xanthones, all kinds o

    other ruits. But you know, the thing is most o them are loaded with sweeteners that are concentrated pear

    juice or example, or apple juice. Youd be better o just eating a couple o dried berries.

    Greg:Yes, and youll save a bloody ortune.

    Mike:Yeah! Eat a berry and drink a glass o water, you know, and youve got the same thing.

    Greg:Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I was looking at some o these things on the market; they are

    charging as much as $60.00 or a bottle. Which is pretty remarkable. When I look at that gure I started

    thinking, my goodness, Ola Loas a deal.

    Mike:Well, Ola Loa is a deal, but I imagine you still have some price resistance, because isnt it dicult or

    consumers to easily recognize the quality and dierence between your products and competing products?

    Greg:Well, Im doing everything I can, you know, and I salute you or what youre doing. I think that

    the general public is getting smarter and is starving or good inormation, and being trained in how to

    objectively look at things, and how to study the labels. I try everything I can to inorm and educate people

    about the dierences between these products. At the same time, I also try to make it easy or people to

    understand. I think it ultimately comes down to, or me at least, I ound when people try our product, its

    a common occurrence where someone says: You know what, Ive take vitamins beore, have never really elt

    any dierent and Im doing it as an insurance policy. I get these people who say: Ive tried your product andits the frst time Ive ever elt a dierence with a vitamin product.

    Mike: Tats not surprising.

    Greg: Tat makes a huge dierence and o course as Ive told you beore, I always provide samples or

    Mike: Is that US only, or where are you willing to send samples to?

    Greg:Well, generally speaking its the United States and Canada. We do get people who order products

    internationally. We try to work with everybody.

    Beware the toxic orm o B12 ound in many vitamins

    Mike: Its a good policy. Now, I want to get back to asking you some details about vitamin B12. In some

    o the literature put out by your company, theres a mention o the toxic or o B12, the cyanocobalamin,

    being especially harmul to people o Arican descent. Im curious about this, because I noticed there are

    a lot o other nutritional problems to watch out or other than your ethnic background. Are you amiliar

    with why cyanocobalamin is harmul to people?

    Greg:Well, again youre dealing with the eects o methylation or one thing. So i youre not methylating

    well, this can also lead to problems in terms o how the cyanocobalamin is handling itsel in you body,

    especially or people who have weak antioxidant protection. I mean the extreme case, or example, it occurs

    especially in injectable orm. Some people, or example, weve actually seen patients who have gone blind

    rom a cyanocobalamin injection. Smokers or example are also at high, high risk or problems associated

    with cyanocobalamin.

    Mike: Because theyre already compromised and then that...?

    Greg:What happens is, their bodys ability to detoxiy the poisonous side o it is highly compromised. So,

    in general, we have a very matter-o-act approach at Ola Loa and that is: no poison.

    Mike: I like that approach. Tats a good one. What are the other dierences by the way, between the sport

    and the energy product? Youve talked about the lower levels o MG, or example, but the energy product

    also has more minerals and vitamins, correct?

    Greg:Well, the energy product has more o the at soluble product, you know, it oers a little more o

    vitamin B12, whereas, the sport product oers, it doesnt oer the coenzyme Q10, thats probably the

    most signicant dierence. Coenzyme Q10 ,you know, is a very expensive vitamin. It can be priced as

    much as $5000 a kilogram. ypically, when youre buying vitamins you paying $6.00 a kilo. Right now I

    think coenzyme Q10 is probably in the neighborhood o between $1000 and $1300 per kilogram. So we

    removed the coenzyme Q10 and we put in carnitine; again, which has proound impact on energy or your

    muscles. Its an instant eect; let me put it like that. So people who are in the middle o a sports activity,

    theyll eel that carnitine almost immediately.

    I guess the other thing too that we should talk about and mention is the act that a lot o people who are

    physically active, who are in warm climates, have probably heard recently something in the area thats

    called electrolytes. You know, there are our major electrolytes, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium.

    Your body usually has quit a bit o calcium in it. Its what youre made o, your bones. Magnesium gets a

    little bit harder to get, but potassium and sodium your body loses very quickly. When youre physically

    active, and you start to sweat, you can run out o electrolytes within an hour. You hear these cases o

    people, or example, who decided theyre going to run a marathon, and theyre not getting their electrolytes

    and theyre just hydrating with water, and you hear the extreme case, all o a sudden their electrolytes go

    way out o balance and all o a sudden you have an extreme case where someone passes out or all o a

    sudden someone dies during a run. Ten o course, this year here in Caliornia, weve had a number oincidents where we had during the summer, I think we had somewhere in the neighborhood o 60 deaths

    in the state o Caliornia, attributable to the temperature.

    Mike: But that could have been avoided easily i they had proper electrolyte balance.

    Greg: Certainly, and the electrolytes are just a piece o the puzzle. Tis is another aspect o Ola Loa that

    Mike:Yes, well, thats what Ive absolutely noticed. Tats what gets me excited about this product. I keep

    150,000 people a year, known as bariatric surgery, where theyre literally shrinking your stomach. Once

    you go through an operation like that, youre basically cutting down the surace area o the stomach, and

    Greg:Well, until he got much older. I wanted to be able to have my son have access to nutrient support

    because it was so important to me growing up. I was very, very ortunate. I had sugar sensitivities as a child

    and was unable to drink sot drinks, was developing headaches, and unortunately I had had some leadpoisoning as a child. Fortunately or me, my ather got into this area o medicine when I was six years old.

    So, vitamins have played a major impact on my lie. I realized I wanted to be able to share that with my

    son and the rest o the world. So thats really what led us to developing it into a powder. When you really

    get down to it, it just makes so much more sense.

    Great nutrition doesnt have to taste like chemicals

    Mike: It really does, yes. And actually the taste too is something that I want to mention. Te taste is reallyquite pleasant. Its not something that you have to choke down at all. Te Cran-Raspberry favor, I think

    is my avorite. You have a number o dierent favors. Teyre all very nice to drink.

    Greg:Were always striving to make it better and better. O course, this gets into another area. Ola Loa goes the

    extra mile, and we dont use synthetic favors. Everything we use is natural in the product. Now, most people

    dont realize that when you use a natural favor that costs incredibly. I mean its always cheaper to use synthetics.

    And again, most companies do it because o cost. We want to produce the very best product we can.

    Mike:Well, thats really who this is or. Tis is or the educated consumer who wants premium nutrition

    and doesnt want all these synthetic chemicals in their body, pretending like theyre taking vitamins. Temore we read about it, too, the more we nd the products on the market are just junk vitamins. Te B

    vitamins are rom dubious sources. Te vitamin B12 that we talked about is probably toxic. Te minerals,

    sometimes the minerals are in the cheapest possible orm as well.

    Greg: I think what really is signicant about Ola Loa, besides the distribution, you know the ormula

    itsel, and the method in which you absorb the nutrients, is the act that its such a thoughtul ormula.

    Were very lucky, my ather is the director o research or the company and has had ty years in working

    with patients and weve gone out o our way to think about the little things. For example, youll nd that

    theres a little copper in our product. Well, when youre taking vitamin C, vitamin C depletes your body

    Mike: No, they just want to be able to put something on the label.

    Greg: Tese are the synergistic relationships that go into each and every ormula that we have.

    Answers the vitamin critics

    Mike: Now, let me switch gears or a second and ask you a bigger question, which is, many doctors still

    practicing today come rom that old school o medicine that doesnt think nutrition really matters; they

    think vitamins are useless. How do you respond to that kind o outmoded?

    Greg: Generally, I nd that its just not the doctors, I mean, some o the members o the public also eel

    the same way. I mean theyll say, Well, I get everything I need out o my ood. Ill ask them, well how do you

    know that? Most people have never even checked. In 50 years o doing this kind o work, I have never seen

    anybody who has been able to get everything they need out o their ood. Te ood itsel, there are a lot

    o compromises in modern day ood delivery. Not to mention the act that theres a lot more poisons now

    that were dealing with and having to contend with.

    Back to your point as to why is it that, you know, most doctors that are out there dont seem to understand

    this. Well, I think theyre practicing a orm o medicine that I call crisis medicine. Disease model - they

    wait or you to get sick; whereas were practicing health medicine, preventive medicine. I dont think, you

    know, people go and they understand that they have to check the oil in your car; well, the same thing goes

    or your body. I youre going to take your health seriously, wouldnt you like to know and just get a general

    check to see, well, how am I doing on my vitamin levels? Why wait until you get sick when we have thetools right now, to not only identiy your vitamin levels and how you\re doing on your vitamin levels, but

    we can also check or toxins.

    Mike: So, in your athers clinical practice, and hes been in practice or decades, what do you see when a

    typical patient comes in, what do you see as their pattern o deciency?

    Greg: Well, there are a couple o dierent classications, I would say. You get your one group, who

    actually takes their health very seriously and wants to make sure that everything is okay. So they want to

    go through a general workup to identiy where theyre at, to see i theres anything hidden. Teyre eeling

    good, theyre in good shape, by all means theyre in ne shape. Ten you get people who are sick; typically

    what we nd is that there is a problem with nutrient support, nutrient levels that plays a role in it. Teres

    a toxic side that also plays a role in it, whether it be pesticides to metals, and then now weve been able to

    identiy blood fow. Weve been able to nd out i you have a clotting disorder, and o course weve now

    gone deeper in the past ve years in the genetic side and identiy, well, not only do you have a vitamin

    deciency, but you also have an inability to properly use these nutrients. So its more o a struggle or this

    person to utilize ood or example, and get those nutrients than somebody else whos got a, you know, luck

    o the draw, you know, somebody whos got better genetics is going to have an edge.

    Whats important though, is that were able to identiy these things and were able to assist the body, and

    concentrate on these areas that could potentially be a major, major problem. For example, i you have a

    concern about major diseases, theres heart disease, stroke, cancer, blood vessel damage, in your amily

    history - wouldnt you like to know that youve got these major actors that trigger your blood to clot and

    turn your blood rom a nice fow into a thick clot? Wouldnt you like to know beore you go into surgery,

    that youve got this clotting actor disorder that potentially could kill you, when you go into surgery?

    Im utterly amazed when I hear o people who are going in to have open heart surgery and they have

    absolutely no idea what their homocysteine is, or their brinogen, or their lipoprotein; these key actors

    that are major contributors to blood clotting. Well, so, or me, I think that youre going to do better in

    identiying your blood chemistry and having a complete picture as to the whole person rather than goingin there with cut, burn and poison. Because the people that are having open heart surgery, theyre still

    going to have those contributory actors ater they have the surgery. But the exciting thing is, we have a lot

    o inormation to work with and we can actually identiy whats happening, specically with you and your

    blood chemistry. o me, that is good medicine.

    Nutrition and genetics

    Mike: Teres a lot o buzz these days in the industry thats about this marriage o nutrition and genetics.

    Te term epigeneticskeeps coming up, which I saw mentioned in your literature as well. Can you explainhow nutrition alters the expression o our genetic code?

    Greg: Well its really identiying where you have problems; I mean, or example, on the methylation

    pathway, there are hundreds o chemical transactions that are methyl dependent. Along that pathway, you

    can have certain road blocks based on your genetics. I go back to the MFHR, which is simply a test

    to identiy how your body can utilize olic acid. And or those people who have a problem with it, again,

    you want to identiy it, because i youre not able to utilize your olic acid well, then you simply want to

    be able to enhance your methyl transer rates and youre getting those methyl donors, so that you can, in

    act, maintain your health.

    But ultimately, getting this kind o inormation is only going to help you and its going to assist you in

    identiying, you know, oods to eat, its going to assist you in nutrients you need to make sure youre getting

    everything. And its something to also watch out or in conjunction with understanding your amily

    history and knowing what risk actors you have. Tere is a lot that you can do now. Tats why I tell people,

    its so painul when you see people who tell you that they dont need vitamins. You take a look at them and

    they look twenty years older than they are.

    Mike: Oh yeah, I see it all the time.

    Greg: Its just so painul, everyday I come in contact with people like that, and its just such a sad situation

    when I know that we can oer them so much more support. And its terrible, too, when you look at the

    diet that theyre getting. Youll see a lot o these people that are utilizing, unortunately, the wrong oils, and

    theyre getting these peculiar long chain atty acids into their bodies, that, you know, up until 50 years ago

    were not even part o the genetic make-up o mankind. Were going through an evolution right now with

    these adulterated oods that are changing mankind beore our very eyes.

    Mike: Whats interesting about nutritional supplementation, too, is that oten these supplemental

    nutrients can help protect us in some ways, rom many o the additives and adulterations o processed

    oods. For example, a good quality vitamin C can stop sodium nitrite rom turning into nitrosaminecompounds, right?

    Greg: Sure, well, its just so sensible, thats what I think is so rustrating. Teres even been talk, you

    know, on a broader issue; there have been some members in Washington, or example, who are thinking

    that, well, vitamins need to be regulated more and more. And its so rustrating, because as ar as Im

    concerned, I dont see a dierence between a vitamin pill and ood. People who take their health seriously

    select ood based on not only taste, but also on nutrient density. People want to have meaningul ood

    that has nutrients in it. And unortunately were seeing a lot o pretty ood. You go into the stores and

    you know, everything looks very pretty, but unortunately a lot o it is limited in terms o what its

    actually providing you.

    Consumer taste expectations and sugared-up oods and drinks

    Mike:Absolutely. And its ascinating how consumers will make decisions on these oods. I do a little

    experiment that might amuse you - sometimes when I have new ood bars sent to me by various companies.

    I will walk around to riends and Ill hand them the ood bar, and Ill say, whats your opinion o this?

    And Im looking to see i theyre going to A: open it and taste it, and give me an opinion, or B: read the

    label. And you know, probably 90% o the people judge it only by taste. Teyll taste it and theyll use the

    chemical sensors on their tongue, and then they will report, oh, this is good.

    Greg:Well, and then o course thats something that were very sensitive to. I mean, theres no question,

    when youre doing a powder that makes a drink you want to make it the best tasting product you possibly

    can. And Im very proud o the act that most o the people who have tried our product actually tell us that

    theyre impressed with how good the product tastes. And the act that were able to get the level o nutrient

    an achievement.

    Mike: It is, indeed. But I hope that as consumers evolve in the health industry, they will shit more away

    rom just eating to amuse their tongue sensors and more toward eating because they understand what their

    body actually needs.

    Greg:Well I think part o that too is conditioning. Its interesting; Ive had people that have told me theyre

    addicted to sweets. And it is amazing to me how much sugar is used in the average American diet. People

    have become kind o numb to how powerul sugar is. But its amazing - i you just go o o sugar, just or

    a short period o time, and then all o a sudden a week or two later just taste a sweet and all o a sudden

    your sensitivity comes back and you realize, my god, thats just so sweet, you know. Im shocked that so

    many ood products seem to be unnecessarily loaded with sugars.

    Mike: It is amazing. I mean, you nd sugars in salad dressings, pasta sauce, I mean, all kinds o crazy

    places where you dont need it.

    Greg: No, its amazing. And again, in a large measure I think that one o the culprits there is that people

    are conditioned because o sot drinks. I am utterly amazed at the volume o sot drink consumption here

    in the United States.

    Mike: I am too, but this one takes the prize: I saw an advertisement, I think this was by Dean oods, or

    sausage on a stick, this was a breakast sausage, wrapped in chocolate pancakes. So its sort o like a corn

    dog, but its chocolate pancake.

    Greg: Really? Tats pretty ar out.

    Mike:Yeah. Tats when I knew that were going to end up as mutants. I said i theyre doing this.

    Greg: Im doing my part. I mean, I realize that people are only human. And ultimately I think what theyre

    looking or is convenience. And its great when they can actually see results. And typically we hear rom

    people, they go: God, I cant tell you I elt the dierence.

    Mike: By the way, Im amazed at how much technical knowledge you have about nutrition. Teres a lot

    to memorize when it comes to biochemistry and nutrition.

    Greg: It is a daunting task. And whats so remarkable about it is that its so ar-reaching, Mike. I mean

    this is absolutely amazing. It involves virtually about every single disease. Were talking, you just go right

    down the list. I there is one thing to add it would be that there are a lot o people that are out there that

    are suering today, whether they be lumped in a category o chronic atigue, bromyalgia, a number o

    things that in large measure conventional medicine seems stuck. And one o the exciting things here is that

    or these people in particular, this product opens up their blood chemistry and these pathways and it can

    provide them an enormous amount o support. So its pretty exciting that its able to touch on I mean, I

    have not ound an area o disease, or example, that does not touch on this subject.

    And thats why they say, to have something that is this powerul in terms o your bodys sel-regulating

    mechanism; its not just one thing. And thats really the point Im really trying to stress to people. Tis is

    a comprehensive molecular control mechanism thats aecting every single organ o your body. And i the

    Mike: Im so glad you mentioned that, because conventional medicine has, you know, 10,000 dierent

    names or patterns o symptoms that they can measure and diagnose, but when you get down to it, they

    all stem rom cellular malunction.

    Greg: Oh yeah. And its interesting because there are so many areas where there also are a number o

    actors that can block this pathway. For example, you know, Im sure you get these emails all the time.

    I must receive more emails, these mass emails that are involving, you know, sexual problems, and male

    impotence And lets ace it, I think Viagra is the number-one-selling pharmaceutical in the world. But

    you know, we have here again, sexual activity involves the ormation o a nitric oxide, which causes ree

    radical damage and aects your methylation. So i you are having activity o that sort you certainly want

    to be able to make sure that your methyl transer rates are working. I youre working out hard, your

    body is going through, again, ree radical damage, methylation is critical. It really is ar-reaching. I mean,

    methylation aects every part o your body. And Im trying to nd a way to be able to communicate thisin a very easy way.

    Tat booklet is the most dense two pages Ive ever produced. And its really a design to kind o wake people

    up to say: My God, there is an amazing system o the body that is there to protect me.

    Mike:And it really requires a paradigm shit too, because so much o medicine today is based on straight

    allopathy, where one substance is designed to treat or control one set o symptoms. And people still think

    that way when it comes to nutrition. And what theyve got to do is abandon that outdated idea and come

    to understand that the best way to heal disease is to support the bodys own innate healing processes.

    Greg: Balance, you know, the system Its amazing when you take a look at the biochemical pathways o

    the human body. Tey are all interdependent on these key ingredients.

    Mike:Yeah. And that interdependence also helps explain why, when people take a prescription drug, like a

    statin drug, it causes all these unintended side eects, all through the body and the biochemical pathways.

    Conventional medicine is slow to recognize the power o nutrition

    Greg:Well the interesting thing: No one has ever died rom lack o a pharmaceutical, or a prescription

    drug. But people have died rom lack o a single nutrient. People seem to orget that. And its amazing.

    Tis has been going on or a while. It took over 50 years or the British to accept the act that they neededto have limes on the boat. Okay, and they knew it. Te number o people that died unnecessarily over

    something so silly as a lack o vitamin C is amazing to me.

    Mike:Yeah. Well, medicine changes slowly. I mean I still think even today, in modern society, theyre

    practicing the medicine o the 1950s.

    Greg:Well, theres a lot to that. Its a rustrating situation. I think in large part youve got, you know,

    theres a bureaucracy o medicine. And youve got medical doctors who wants to get paid. And youve got

    an administrator at an insurance company who says, We pay or this, we pay or this, we dont pay or

    that. What were discussing today, most o the medical doctors out there dont really know that much

    about human biochemistry, and get very nervous about this because they know they dont know a lot

    about the intricacies o these pathways o the human body and how they are all interdependent on these

    key ingredients.

    I mean, lets ace it: Its great when you can pull out your pad, and you write down, you take this one thing.

    Its a very empowering eeling. And the other issue is the act I think that people want to believe, I think

    more now than ever beore, though were starting to see that people are realizing: Hey, you know what,

    better living through pharmacy, on the pharmaceutical side, is not as great as they were telling me. Teyre

    starting to realize, you know, that people die rom taking these drugs and youre trading in one set oproblems or another.

    Mike: But the advantage is when you die, you dont need embalming because o all the chemicals you take

    already. (Laughs)

    Greg:Well, again, Im just trying to make it easy or people. Tats my goal. And some people want to

    learn more, and were going to try and give them more inormation. But or those people who just want

    to experience eeling better, all they have to understand is I put the product in a glass, I add some water, I

    taste it, I eel better. And Im happy or those people too.
