Biochar Systems Launches with the First North American Manufactured Mobile Biochar Production System Biochar Systems, LLC is a joint venture partnership that brings together two leaders in the biochar industry, Biochar Engineering Corporation and EcoTechnologies Group, LLC Berwyn, PA and Golden, CO, August 7, 2009 – Biochar Systems, a newly established  joint venture that partners with technology firms to deploy biochar production technology and  biochar soil enhancements, announced today the commercial release of its first mobile biochar  production unit, the Biochar 1000. “We are extremely excited to launch Biochar Systems which brings together two companies with complementary skill sets and the shared mission to sustainably drive implementation of biochar across the country and the planet,” said Steve Parker, Chief Executive Officer of EcoTechnologies. “Our initial focus is on mobile units and a whole systems based, bioregional distributi on model. Biochar Engineering Corporation’s Biochar 1000 equipment lets people bring the technology to the green waste and make biochar for local use – all without the large carbon footprint of centralized, mass production and shipping schemes.” The commercial release of the Biochar 1000 launches a reactor that is rated for the production of 1,000 tons of biochar output per year at a cost of only $100,000 – substantially below similar systems coming to market in other countries. This makes the system af fordable for farms, farm co-ops, forest land management, universities, research centers, landscape companies, nursery growers, and other businesses seeking an efficient, cost-effective technology to convert their  biomass waste to biochar. The first two of these systems have been purchased by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for use in conducting researc h on biochar’s benefits in mine reclamation. Also, the North Carolina Farm Center for Innovation & Sustainability, which recently received a $1.2 million, three year grant for biochar research, will feature the Biochar 1000 in a first-of-its-kind biochar demonstration center under their management. This Center w ill be open for demonstration and educational purposes. “Our manufacturing facility and mobile pyrolysis technology will be featured at the International Biochar Initiative’s first North American Biochar Conference in Boulder, Colorado on August 9 th ,” said Jim Fournier, Chief Executive Officer of Biochar Engineering C orporatio n. “It’s very gratifying to see four years of research come together in a major milestone for the industry. Biochar Engineering is delighted to be combining efforts with EcoTechnologies to maximize our  positive impact on the planet.”
