It all began with the marriage of William and Nan…..

And baby Bill arrived on Wednesday 19th March

1941……

19th March 1941Winston Churchill is Prime Minister. World War II is still raging. 5 days earlier 48,000 people had been made homeless in the Clydebank blitz. Butter, sugar, eggs, bacon, jam and cheese are all rationed. Glen Miller, The Andrews Sisters, Billie Holiday and Jimmie Dorsey are all in the charts.The average house price is £500!!!

We searched high and low for photos from Bill’s formative years but they must be very well hidden.We can only assume the teenage years were filled with education and fresh air and fast forward to the debauched lifestyle of an art school student……

Glasgow School of Art

Notable alumni of Glasgow School of Art include Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Robbie Coltrane,

Peter Capaldi, Rita Cotter, Peter Howson, a host of Turner Prize winners and William Taylor!

Days were spent exploring post modernist nudes…

Evenings filled with philosophy, arty types…

The upper lip remains hair free.

Then cupid struck….

In 1965 they were wed.

Bill found his vocation, sharing his passion for art.

To make himself distinguishable from the pupils, Bill grew a

moustache.

Almost 50 years later he still teaches an evening class in the

same room.

This picture adorned the wall of Bill’s office where he ate two slices of brown

bread, a banana and a Tunnocks caramel wafer for lunch every day…..

and drank a bottle of Burgundy each evening.

Two became three in 1966.
