Vredestein is a true household name in the cycling industry and an authority in tyres for two wheelers, passenger cars and agricultural & industrial applications. Such a status is not achieved overnight. The Dutch brand especially has a long and rich heritage when it comes to bicycle tyres. Early in the 19th century, the first Vredestein bicycle tyres were produced in the Netherlands. By 1946 – the tenth million bicycle tyre rolled out of production!

As globalisation spread, the brand became increasingly famous and popular outside of the Netherlands. With a distinctive marketing strategy and strong emphasis on innovation and technology, Vredestein grew into a highly reputable European brand.

Vredestein products stand for high performance and supreme aesthetics.

Over the years, Vredestein bicycle tyres have been used at the highest level in cycling and were mounted on most well-known bicycle brands. As an example, the first Dutch Tour de France winner in 1968; Jan Janssen, started his career as a youngster in the renowned “Locomotief – Vredestein” team. Leontien van Moorsel, the renowned female cyclist became world champion on the road in 1993 in Oslo riding Vredestein Fortezza. Also Robbie McEwen had great succes riding Fortezza TriComp by winning the green jersey in the Tour de France of 2006 for the Predictor - Lotto team.

And still many teams, for example the Dutch pro-continental team Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij and the Austrian BMC Amplatz team rely on the quality road tyres of Vredestein. With the feedback of the team’s riders and technicians competing in the major Spring classics and many other World Races, Vredestein develops tyres that perform extremely well under the most demanding circumstances.

Our current portfolio covers tyres for commuter bikes and E-bikes up to 50km/h and the best performing road- and mountain bike tyres. We are proud of our heritage and continue developing best in class bicycle tyres for cyclists looking for performance and safety!

For the 2018 season, we are proud to announce brand new road tyres that will lift our high-end FORTEZZA line-up. We welcome FORTEZZA TUBELESS READY, FORTEZZA DURALITE and the FORTEZZA FLOWER POWER prototype to our family!

Lightweight and durability have never been close friends. Our new FORTEZZA DURALITE bridges the gap between these. The newly designed aero-shape tread profile, duralite technology compound and Sportex Protection Layer (SPL) gives its rider a balanced compromise between high performance and durability. As a true innovation partner and industry reference, we are taking part in the DRIVE4EU project initiated by the European Union. The project offers a unique competitive advantage as it involves the experts in the field of biotechnology, breeding, agronomy, extraction & bio refinery. Vredestein is taking part in the product manufacturing of the world’s first prototype dandelion rubber bicycle tyre, the FORTEZZA FLOWER POWER. This tyre bridges the gap between research and the market and we are looking for ways to further industrialize this innovative and sustainable product in the near future.

Tubeless Ready tyres make it possible to ride at a lower tyre pressure, allowing better grip on the terrain. This tyre system has the further advantage of being more lightweight and, in combination with Vredestein Tyre Sealant, providing optimal protection against punctures. Vredestein recommends using Tubeless Ready tyres with UST Tubeless rims.

The grip is enhanced through the special sipe structure of the outermost row of knobs, where the space between the knobs gradually increases toward the edge. This directly increases the tyre’s mud-shedding capacity, ensuring the profile continues to perform at its best, even in wintry conditions.

XTREME PROTECTION

This double anti-puncture system consists of a densely woven polyamide layer combined with a highly elastic 3 mm rubber layer. The rubber layer directly underneath the tread forms the main barrier while the polyamide layer prevents sharp objects from penetrating the tyre. The elasticity allows for low rolling resistance and comfortable cycling despite the double anti-puncture layer. XTREME PROTECTION technology is deployed in the Vredestein Perfect 4 Seasons and Perfect xtreme.

DESIGNED FOR E-BIKES

E-bikes are heavier than ordinary bicycles and are ridden at higher speeds. The tyres are subjected to higher levels of stress, and therefore need to meet a different set of requirements. Vredestein E-bike tyres meet the highest requirements offering optimal safety. The tyres are ECE-R75 certified and suitable for speeds of up to 50 km/h, providing optimal grip, even round corners and in wet conditions. The range for E-bikes consists of the Perfect E-Power, Perfect xtreme and Perfect 4 Seasons.

SUPERIOR PROTECTION

Thanks to the 3 mm elastic anti-protection layer a puncture is almost completely eliminated as sharp objects cannot penetrate into the tyre. Even a piece of glass has no chance to cause any damage thanks to the specific rubber compound. The SUPERIOR PROTECTION range comprises the Perfect E-Power and Perfect Tour.

Below you can see the difference in rolling resistance between a Vredestein standard butyl inner tube, a butyl LITE inner tube and a latex inner tube, all inflated to eight bar. Most of the rolling resistance is caused by friction between the inner tube and the tyre. The comparison clearly shows that a latex inner tube causes lower rolling resistance than a butyl inner tube. Latex is softer, allowing the tube to easily adapt in shape. This reduces friction between the inner tube and the tyre and, therefore, lowers resistance overall. Latex inner tubes have the lowest rolling resistance and they are more resistant to punctures than butyl inner tubes. Latex inner tubes do, however, need to be topped off with air more often.

ANTI-PUNCTURE LIQUID

Vredestein’s tyre sealant almost completely eliminates punctures. It is both preventative and takes care of punctures punctures. It is both preventative and takes care of punctures during cycling. Tyre sealant can be used in combination with tubeless ready (TLR) MTB and road tyres.

HOW IT WORKS

Punctures during the ride are automatically plugged because the special sealant spreads an evenly thin layer on the inside of the tyre, while the bike is in motion. If the tube is pierced, sealant is transported to the site of the puncture by the escaping air. A ‘plug’ is then formed by the sealant and dries under the influence of the escaping air. Thanks to patented resins in the sealant, the plug remains in place and forms a permanent seal in the tube. And all this takes place in one tenth of a second, without the rider even noticing!

TUBULAR CEMENT

Vredestein tubular cement is a high-quality glue for cementing tubes. Thanks to its unique composition, it guarantees an optimal adhesive effect even in small doses. TECHNOLOGIES ANTI-PUNCTURE SYSTEMS

Getting a puncture is one of the most annoying things that can happen to a cyclist. Vredestein offers a number of solutions, using six different types of puncture protection. The more blocks, the better the puncture resistance.

TRICOMP TECHNOLOGY®As a racing tyre has a smaller contact area, the composition of the rubber compound on both the tread and the sidewalls of the tyre is of the utmost importance. TriComp Technology® allows specific rubber compounds to be used in the applications for which they are most suited, resulting in a road tyre with a very low rolling resistance and maximum grip in all weather conditions.

TRICOMP X TECHNOLOGY®We have applied our experience with TriComp Technology® in road tyres to our MTB tyres – so they deliver the best possible performance too. By using different compounds in the tread and shoulder and combining this with a knob structure specifically tailored to these compounds, the tyre gives a perfect performance, regardless of the terrain.

DUOCOMP TECHNOLOGY®This technology uses an integrated tread and sidewall compound that optimises grip, rolling resistance and durability of the tyre.

TPIThe casing forms the ‘skeleton’ of a bicycle tyre. The casing thread density is measured in TPI (threads per inch). The higher the TPI, the more specific the application of the tyre. Standard tyres offer the perfect compromise between weight and durability at a TPI of between 24 and 55. The Vredestein range includes tyres and tubulars from 24 up to 320 TPI. A more densely woven casing has benefits for the tyre’s weight, rolling resistance, flexibility and comfort levels. However, tyres with a higher TPI are woven from

thinner threads, making them more delicate and sensitive to external damage. For this reason, tyres with a high TPI are nearly always fitted with an effective anti-puncture system. For all-round folding tyres, 120 TPI provides the best possible compromise in terms of weight, rolling resistance, durability and comfort levels. A higher TPI means less weight and rolling resistance, but this comes at a cost, as the tyre’s susceptibility to damage will increase. A TPI of over 200 is often used in tubulars and special folding tyres. BASIC PROTECTION

XTREME PROTECTIONThis double anti-puncture system consists of a densely woven polyamide layer

combined with a highly elastic 3 mm rubber layer. The rubber layer directly underneath

the tread forms the main barrier while the polyamide layer prevents sharp objects

from penetrating the tyre. The elasticity of the tyre allows for low rolling resistance

and comfortable cycling despite the thick anti-puncture layer. XTREME PROTECTION

technology is deployed in the Vredestein Perfect 4 Seasons and Perfect xtreme.

Besides a strong online presence, we believe that on the shop floors and at the point of sale, visibility is needed to inform potential customers about Vredestein products and create attention with a consequent brand image.
