Bholu products are designed in Australia and are brought to life by the hands of artisans in India. Each piece is individually hand crafted using traditional techniques, giving the products their own unique personality.

The Bholu philosophy is about creating products that we love and live with, while benefiting communities we work with along the way. By using their traditional skills, the artisans gain an income, hence independence and opportunity.

Part proceeds go to the Bholu Anganwadi Project which rebuilds anganwadis (pre-schools) for underprivileged children in India.

Bholu is proudly a Fair Trade and Climate Neutral Company and operates with social and environmental responsibility. Most recently Bholu was selected as TIME Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Green Designs of 2009.

The Anganwadi Project is a collaboration between Bholu and AWF ( Architects Without Frontiers - Australia) with a mission to rebuild and renovate 66 anganwadis (pre-schools) in the slum areas of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

The project sends teams of qualified AWF volunteer architects to work in these communities to design, document and supervise the construction and repair of the Bholu anganwadis.

Each anganwadi currently consists of a crude, one room galvanised iron or brick lean-to which has little or no ventilation and light, and minimal space. The anganwadis are constructed by local labourers and use largely re-cycled materials in order to support the Manav Sadhna philosophy of ‘Re-Use, Re-Cycle, and Reduce’.

Since 2007, the project has successfully built 10 Bholu schools and now has more than 450 children receiving education, hygiene, nutrition and love.
