Now that you've taken the JEE Main examination (well, most of you), you'll probably be

anxious about your performance and even more, about the options available while

deciding on a suitable engineering college to enroll in. To lay your frayed nerves to rest,

we have compiled a list of India's better engineering colleges. A clarification first. This

article, in no way intends to advertise the colleges mentioned or even taking up

engineering as a career choice, per se. The author hopes that their biased opinion as

regards choosing an engineering college for undergraduate studies will go a long way

in forming one of your own.

First, a list of India's best engineering colleges:

There are no surprises in this list with the IITs occupying top spots in various national

and international surveys. Some of the salient features of this amalgamated list of the

results of surveys conducted by India Today and Times Higher Education are:

Sarkari engineering colleges comprise an overwhelming majority of the elite engineering institutes.

IIT Bombay (one of the two Indian institutes in Times' Global Top 200) occupies top spot with IIT Kanpur a close second.

Of the top 25, the new entrants are - College of Engineering, Pune (22), R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore (24) and Nirma Institute of Technology (NIT), Ahmedabad (25).
