ExtEnding thE ExpEriEncE3... 2... 1... ActiOn!In the AFTER section, your students decided on songs that fit 3 different moments in a story you are reading together in class. To extend the musical theater experience, polish their performance and present it to another class!

1. Break up the book into 3 different sections (a moment with a song should be in each section).

2. Within those sections, cast your students to perform the various characters in those sections. If you have more students than characters in a section, your students can also take on the roles of physicalizing the setting.

3. Work with each group to come up with basic choreography for their specific song. The choreography should be generated by the students, and simple enough for everyone to dance along. Ideas for finding a way to work with the groups separately include:

a. During a quiet reading time, have another teacher watch the students while you take a group out into the hallway to work on their dance.

b. Work on all 3 sections together as a full group and then have each group break off and work separately (with you monitoring the groups).

c. Work on each dance for ten minutes at a time, while the other groups take turns being the audience.

4. Perform your musical theater show for another class! You can take on the role of narrator while your students bring the book to life by acting out the story and performing their songs!
