They represent a unique and continuous ethos and aesthetic sensibility rightthrough thousands of years – that has seen a remarkable ability to assimilate, remake, re-shape the incoming styles, ideas, artists and techniques and yet retain the core essence.Indian crafts are a riot of colors, textures and motifs, materials and mediums that changeswith each region, village and community having its own distinct style and history.We researched about the indigenous art and crafts, distinctiveness in terms of food andapparels of each region of India and put it in a beautiful box. Top of the box carriesintricate laser engraved images that are distinctive of particular region.

Uttar Pradesh in one of the most ancient cradles of Indian culture . The handicrafts ofUttar Pradesh have earned a reputation for themselves over the centuries. The traditionalhandicrafts are of a vast variety such as textiles, metal ware, woodwork, ceramics,stonework, articles made of horns, bone, cane and bamboo, perfumes etc. These cottagecrafts are spread all over the state but the more important centres are located at Varanasi,Meerut, Muradabad, and Agra. Carpets from Bhadohi and Mirzapur are prizedworldwide, Carved woodwork from Saharanpur is also important. Khurja's dishes,pitchers, and flower bowls in blazed ceramics are the most attractive.

Taj Replica

About: One of the seven wonders of world The Taj is a

white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh,India.

History: It was built by Mughal emperor

Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO WorldHeritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleumis the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it isactually an integrated complex of structures. Theconstruction began around 1632 and was completedaround 1653, employing thousands of artisans andcraftsmen.

Woodwork

About: Saharanpur is famous for its wood carving cottage

industry. Artistic woodwork began as a temple and palacecraft, and flourished alongside architecture and sculpture.

History: Depending on local availability, different woods

were used for wood carving, and fashioned into religious,decorative and functional articles. Over time, variouscentres of wood carving emerged, each with its distinctstyle. Today, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh is the principlecentre for wood carving. The origins of the craft can betraced back to the late 19th century.

Stone Carving/Inlaying

About: The art of stone carving/Inlaying in India has been a

tradition through centuries especially in Agra and Rajasthan.

History: Eastern Uttar Pradesh has rich deposits of soft

stone, the main centre for which is Varanasi where the artisansbelong to a community called raidas.The Taj Mahal represents the highest glory in inlaid workduring that of 16th and 17th century. Stone crafts of Up haveshown their creativity through intricate architecturalmasterpieces. This art is seen in forts and palaces. There is aHamirpur Industry in Uttar Pradesh dedicated for stonecarving alone.

Marble Craft

About: Marble inlay is the same art which has been used on the

walls of TAJ MAHAL built by Shahjahan in 1653 in Agra (India)and also in other Mughal monuments -Agra Fort, Itmatuddaulah,Fatehpursikri. Lapis lazuli, Onyx, jasper, cornelian have beencombined with marble of various hues to create designs ofunsurpassed elegance.

History: In this art also known as pietra dura inlay, beautiful

floral and geometric patterns are created using various semi-precious stones like LAPIS LAZULI (Afghanistan), MALACHITE(South Africa), TURQUOISE (Iran), CORAL (Italy ),CORNELIAN (India), PAUA SHELL (New Zealand) and manyother stones. Then these stones are inlaid in Indian marble, blackmarble, Indian green marble (Baroda green) etc.

Perfume/ Attar

About: The history of natural attar is very much associated to

the history of Kannauj. Attar, perfume or fragrances madefrom natural substances.

History: Kannauj has been known for natural attars from the

Mughal period or even earlier In India and middle East, attarsare made as offerings to the God. There are evidences inhistory and Hindu sacred books that perfumery tradition datesback to over 5000 years at the time of Indus valleycivilization as well when distillation practice was reported tobe in existence.

Khurja Pottery

About: Khurja is a city in the Bulandshahr District in the

Indian state of UP .Khurja supplies a large portion of theceramics used in the country, hence it is sometimes called TheCeramics City.

History: The history of Khurja Pottery goes back to about

600 years ago, when some of the potters' families moved fromDelhi to Khurja during reign of Emperor Mohammad-bin-Tughlak. Starting with red clay pottery they moved on to blueglaze and on red clay articles with engobe of white clay,painting floral designs with cupric oxide and applying a softglaze containing glass and borax etc. Khurja is now famousfor its ceramics. With over 500 factoriesproducing ceramic works, its skyline is dotted with chimneys.

Black Pottery

About: Nizamabad, in Azamgarh District of Uttar Pradesh,

is renowned for its black pottery. This particular varietyfeatures a shiny black surface with engraved silver patterns.

still contributes substantially to the economic life of thepeople. The fancy pottery made in Nizamabad is famous inthe world.The earthen wares and statues of Gods andGoddesses are also made. This particular smooth black playis plentifully available in the district. The black look isobtained by dipping the pot into the solution of clay andvegetable. After that for better look they use mercury,rangaand lead.
