WHO BUILT THE WALL AND WHAT FOR?

The leaders of the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany) ordered the building of a wall 166km long and 4m tall to divide the city of Berlin in two. Its official aim: «to protect the inhabitantants of the GDR against the fascist western attacks.

However, its real aim was to avoid the escape to freedom of thousands of citizens who didn’t support the comunist regime imposed by the Soviet Union.

Do you know when it was built, who did it and why?I don’t know that because, once the event

happened, I was interested in it, but most people didn’t know about it here.

Did you get a lot of information about this event?No, the truth is that the media didn’t offer a lot of

information about it.

Did you have any privileged information related to this event?

I would say I did. After some time, my brother, who was living in France in those times, used to tell us the news that they got from Germany.

¿QUIÉN Y PARA QUÉ SE CONSTRUYÓ EL MURO?

Los líderes de la antigua República Democrática Alemana ordenaron la construcción de una pared de 166km de largo y 4m de altura para dividir la ciudad de Berlín en dos, su objetivo oficial:”proteger a los habitantes de la RDA contra los ataques fascistas occidentales”.

Sin embargo el objetivo real era impedir el escape a la libertad de miles de ciudadanos que no estaban conformes con el régimen comunista impuesto por la Unión Soviética.

CRONOLOGÍA

¿CUÁNDO SE CONSTRUYÓ?- El 13 de agosto de 1961.

¿CUÁNDO DESAPARECIÓ?- El 9 de noviembre de 1989.

P-¿Sabes qué día se construyó el muro de Berlín, quien y por qué?

R-Abuela: -Esa información la sé, porque yo después de todo aquello, me interesé por ese suceso , ya que aquí no sabía nada la mayoría de la gente.

P-¿Llegó mucha información aquí sobre este suceso?.R-Abuela: La verdad es que aquí no llegó mucha

información por ningún medio.P-¿Tenias alguna información privilegiada sobre ese

suceso?R-Abuela: -La verdad es que sí, pasado un tiempo mi

hermano que había vivido todo ese tiempo en Francia, nos contaba las noticias que llegaban de allí.
