Crossrail is the new high frequency railway which will link Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, throughnew tunnels and stations under central London, with Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. It will act as acatalyst for regeneration across London. Rail capacity will be increased by 10%, new journey opportunitieswill be created, journey times cut and overcrowding relieved. For further information about Crossrail visitwww.crossrail.co.uk .

Berkeleys construction of the station box is progressing well and is on programme to achieve an earlyhandover of the east section of works to Crossrail at the beginning of March 2013. This early handoversupports efforts to progress the transfer of tunnel boring machines through the station box and enabletunnelling under the River Thames to link Abbey Wood and Woolwich with the rest of the Crossrail network.

The base slab of the station box was completed in early November and works are now focussed onconstructing the 172m long Box roof slab and supporting columns by the end of the year. In January andFebruary Berkeley will be completing various smaller works within the box and at surface prior to handover.

Condition surveys of the streets and pavements local to the station box worksite were surveyed prior to theworks commencing. Now that the main works are nearly complete, the project has commissioned ascheme of road repairs to make good any damage that may have arisen during construction of the stationbox. The majority of these works will take place in December.

In November Crossrail Ltd awarded the Berkeley Station Box project with a Green Line Award forexcellence in environmental management. The project is proud to be one of the first to be recognised inthis way
