TelecomModular DC Power Supply Systems BLTwith remote monitoring system MCU DC-DC Converters, Inverters
With the increasing demands on powersupplies for today´s telecommunicationsindustry Benning have developed awide range of power modules.
Benning powersupply systemshave a modularstructure and can be adapted all customerrequirements.
Systems are available with wall-mountedcabinets and floor-standing cabinets.Using combination cabinets it is possible to build in batteries with theplug-in power supplies.
The following switched mode plug-inrectifiers and BLT-systems meet therequirements for compact and reliablepower supplies and have the followingprincipal features:
• efficiency ≥ 90 %• power factor ≥ 0,93 / 0,98• radio interference suppression to
EN 55022 level B• noise voltage
≤ 1 mV or 2 mV CCITT• excellent transient response • temperature-controlled voltage
characteristic
The modular structure of the BLT-systems allows adaptation to almostall requirements. All BLT-systems are
delivered with the monitoring systemMCU 500/1000 or MCU 2000+.

GeneralThe inverters can be connected inparallel so systems with N+1 redundancy can be constructed.
Parallel connection can beused for increasing thepower, and thus systemextension on site is possiblefor increasing powerdemand.Systems with up to 5 invertersconnected in parallel arepossible.
The use of modern semicon-ductors with high switching frequen-cies provides compact construction, low weight and a very high efficiency.
All monitoring and control units aredesigned to be intrinsically safe so that an uninterrupted supply of theconnected load is ensured.
These products have a very gooddynamic range. At load peaks of 0 % - 100 % - 0 %, fluctuations andvoltage surges are corrected within avery short time.
The plug-in inverters are availablewith the output power 1000 VA, 1500 VA(only 24 V), 2500 VA and 5000 VA.
The cabinets can be installed side byside with rectifier cabinets of similardesign.
In order to increase the availability ofthe system a mechanical by-pass canbe provided. In case of inverter failureit automatically switches over to thepublic mains (fig. 1) with a low change-over time.
The EUE (static by-pass) is anothercomponent for increasing the systemsafety. Using the EUE the loads aredirectly switched to the mains in caseof overload or faults in the inverter (fig. 2 + 3). This switch-overis made almost without interruption.

Loads of systems with EUE are permanently supplied via the inverter.
The voltage gap, arising in the event offailure in the inverter or overload, is < 1,5 ms, so even sensitive electronicloads can be supplied without any problems. The overload behaviour isapprox. 5 x I rated for 100 ms, therefo-re loads with high inrush currents canalso be connected.

GeneralWith the increasing demand for power systems inthe telecommunication sector, and the need formore efficient use of operating and maintenancestaff, Benning have produced a range of systemmonitoring. The Benning MCU 500, MCU 1000 andMCU 2000+ offer the user a solution dependingon the customer requirements.
BLT 150 and BLT 400 power systems are fittedwith MCU 500 (Optional MCU 1000) monitoringsystem.By means of local indication (13 off LED´s) andnumerical display, the system status can bequickly assessed. The MCU 1000 additionally offers direct commu-nication, via a RS 485 interface, with the rectifiermodules. As an optional extra the MCU 1000 may be fittedwith a relay box having 8 volt free contact.
The BLT 2500/5000 has the MCU 2000+ monito-ring fitted as standard.
Both MCU 1000 and MCU 2000+ monitoringsystems have the facility to control and monitorthe power system via the public telephone network.
As an option, the MCU 1000 and MCU 2000+ sig-nals can be transmitted via modem to a centralcontrol station.
Using a PC and dedicated monitoring software, information can be sent and received by thecustomer based in the control station.
The MCU 2000+ provides a large range of super-visory functions, and enables easy monitoringand controlling of the power supply system.
Communication with the rectifiers is via an RS485 interface. Options include 8 additional voltfree alarm contacts, 24 external digital inputs and15 measurement channels.
