MUNICIPAL NEWS

WORD OF THE MAYORThe state of the Lake Solar damDear residents,You have probably noticed that the waterlevel in Lake Solar was lowered. The damsouth of the lake must be repaired. Thewater level had to be lowered to allow forthe assessment of the necessary work andfor work to be done in as dry as possibleconditions. We obtained plans from our engineers inJune which will aim to block the openingswhere the water is infiltrating. In July weinvited several companies to provide uswith tendres. We received two tenders andthe choice was finalized in early August. At the time we went to press, a site start-upmeeting was held with our engineers andthe contractor and the work should beginby the end of August, as long as theweather cooperates.Work is expected to last only two days. Thetraffic on des Pionniers road should be onlylightly affected. Thank you for your usual patience andunderstanding. As usual, you can send me your comments, suggestions or questions by email [email protected] or call me at514 941-2224. I will be happy to discussthem with you. Thank you.

Your MayorScott Pearce

WORD OF THE INSPECTORSEcoPrêt program for the replacementof septic systemsThe Municipal Council adopted theEcoPrêt program by-law last April. We recently finalized the financialorganization of this program. If your septicsystem is non-compliant and / or must bereplaced, we invite you to meet themunicipal inspectors to discuss youreligibility to the EcoPrêt program. Here is how the program works: dependingon your income and the value of yourhome, a portion of the replacement cost ofyour septic system could be covered by theEcoPrêt program in the form of a loan.

You could then repay the loan over 10 years, right on your municipal tax bill.In some cases, you might even be eligiblefor a grant that could cover up to 10% ofyour cost.To start, please contact the municipalinspector to discuss the program and yoursituation. Please note, that following the adoption ofBy-law number 189, for preventativemeasures, all cesspools, non-watertightholding tanks, metal holding tanks andother non-compliant systems must bereplaced by a compliant system within 2 years. If you have one of these systems, you will be particularly targeted foreligibility to the EcoPrêt program. If asystem is found to be contaminating, itmust be replaced immediately and you toocould be eligible to the EcoPrêt program.Let us work together to protect theenvironment by ensuring that our domesticwastewater is treated and disposed of toavoid major impacts on the water quality ofour lakes and our rivers.

COUREUR DES BOIS CHALLENGE

The “Coureur des Bois”Challenge and Gore Family Day The Township of Gore had the pleasure ofpresenting music from the 438th TacticalHelicopter Squadron (THS) as part of itssummer festival and “Coureur des Bois”Challenge on August 15th. This squadron, based in St-Hubert, offers theonly Air Reserve band in Canada whoseextensive repertoire ranges from Celtic music to jazz, baroque and, of course, the militarymusic repertoire. The Orchestra of the THS currently has 27 professional musicians, all reservists, graduates of universities and of the mostprestigious conservatories in North America. They perform in chamber music and jazzcombos as well as in ensembles. Theyaccompanied, among others, the MetropolitanOrchestra, the Grands Ballets CanadiensOrchestra and popular artists.

The 438th Tactical Helicopter Squadron, alsoknown as the Wildcats, is represented by a headof a wild cat which was inspired by a WaltDisney Studios drawing created at the requestof Flight Lieutenant Ross F. Reid in February of1944. This squadron embodies the essenceof total force in which members of the regularForces and reserve Forces work in harmony inorder to achieve the operational objectives ofthe Royal Canadian Air Force. We were spoiled to have them among us and wewish to thank them for entertaining usthroughout the day.The public also participated in numerousactivities during the day: “Coureur des Bois”Challenge, games for children, knife andtomahawk throwing, archery, cosom hockeytournament as well as a craft show, to name buta few. The municipality wishes to congratulate thenumerous participants and winners of the

“Coureur des Bois” Challenge and especiallythank the organisers of both events, Mrs.Tammy Hall and Mr. Peter DeTracey, and theirdevoted volunteers. These activities could nottake place without their commitment andparticipation. A thank you also goes out to thefollowing sponsors: Deputy Yves St-Denis,Labatt, IGA S. Albert, Fosses Septiques Miron,MSSI Mont Saint-Sauveur, Ice River Springs,Michael James Caron and Patrick Doiron.

KATIE MOORE IN CONCERT – SEPTEMBER 26, 2015 – HOLY TRINITY CHURCHThe Voice of an Angel Returns Katie’s last visit to Holy Trinity was with theband, “Yonder Hill”. With fond memories of thatevent, she has enthusiastically accepted ourinvitation to return this fall and we are thrilled tohave her back. This is our third concert of thesummer and promises to be as big a success as thefirst two.Katie Moore is an uncompromising songstressand musician whose haunting music floats between folk, soul, Americana, countryand 70’s Southern California. She has accompanied renowned artists, includingSocalled, Feist, Patrick Watson, Chilly Gonzales, Plants and Animals, and the BarrBrothers.Katie is most excited about singing her own songs. Her solo act is often a duet withlong-time friend and guitarist Warren Spicer, but when the situation calls for it, sheis joined onstage with her band, which can really groove. With her heart-melting voice, Montreal's Katie could rightly be compared toEmmylou Harris and Iris Dement, yet her country music is much closer to the soul, with deep grooves that make Montebello a stirring musical mélange. Katie’s solorecording, Montebello, won a GAMIQ award and the SOCAN song writing award. Her latest recording, Fooled by the Fun, warmly illustrates her development as asongwriter.

“Moore is one of Montreal's underappreciated treasures. She sings classic countrymusic updated with an arrestingly person touch, and with a voice -- what a voice --that holds the whole world in its hands.” (T'Cha Dunlevy, Montreal Gazette)

CHURCH SERVICES IN THEPARISH OF THE LOWER

LAURENTIANS

FERAL CATSAs many of you know the feral catproblem in Gore and neighbouringcommunities is of concern to us all. Everyyear we receive phone calls fromresidents voicing that concern.

In the city of Lachute, an organizationcalled “Ré-CHATS-Pés”, which is avolunteer-run organization has begun

their capture-sterilisation-return program for feral cats. This long-term program is avery costly one. Itrequires the purchasingof live-capture cages, thetransportation of cats toand from the veterinarian, as well as the cost ofsterilization. One cat can costupwards of $125, not tomention the numerousvolunteer hours from start to finish. Allthese functions are performed byvolunteers. “Ré-CHATS-Pés” is partlyfunded through the city of Lachute andthrough fundraising events organised bythe volunteers. The only way a programsuch as this could work in Gore is if we

had several volunteers willing toadminister the program and organisefundraising events.

If you have the time and thewillingness to work on a programto control the cat overpopulation in Gore, please contact SylvieBarsalo at the municipality at450 562-2025 extension 3533.Thank you.
