Here is the deal..• Students will examine the relationship
between the Industrial Revolution and Imperialism.
• Students will see the cause and effect that Imperialism had /has on the world.
• Students will evaluate the current status of Imperialism.
Look
• At the picture from page #34 in your textbook. Think / Write of at least 3 ways that the Industrial Revolution changed the world and / or individual lives.
Changes• Urbanization – The
growth of cities.• Increased pollution
and crime.• Less emphasis on
rural areas.• The need for raw
materials
Hungry like the wolf!• Europe’s
increased demand for raw materials led to an increase in Colonization / Imperialism.
Imperialism• 1870-1914 is known
as the age of Imperialism.
• The control by one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another country or region.
Read
• Start with the section entitled Imperialism on page #35 to the end of the Cold War on page #36.
• In your Notebook create 3 columns : Imperialism / Nationalism / Cold War
• Under each column write the definition and 1 impact that this term has had on world events.
THINK…• If you were an
Imperialist Power in 2008 – what 5 current countries would you want to control?
• Give a valid reason for wanting each place.
• Pages 778 – 782 may help
WHY?
• The Industrial Revolution increased the desire for raw materials.
• European factories needed raw materials from Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
• European Powers saw their colonies as markets for their finished goods.
