If you do not have this information with you at this time, please exit now and return when you do.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIPSTER #1: They do train but, they do give first preference to those who already have an AZ DPS SECURITY GUARD CARD and those with previous Law Enforcement or Military work histories are highly sought. “Does this mean that I have to have this to get a job?” No, but, it is the reality that if you already have a current guard card you can go through their internal training and be out on a security post a lot soon. Also, previous law enforcement or military experience takes everything to higher level of pre-training, qualifications and abilities to fill in at high profile security location(s). IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE A GUARD CARD DO NOT GO OUT AND GET ONE ON YOUR OWN. It really doesn’t work that way, it is expensive and you will still need to have the 8 hours of training ($40-100 cost…$40 is for bare bones training

Page 7: Being an everyday hero

only and everything else is extra and done by you or the $100 is a full turnkey they do everything for you) by whoever hires you. SECURITAS TRAINS FOR FREE AND YOU ONLY PAY $72 FOR PROCESSING YOUR GUARD CARD THROUGH AZDPS. Before you start the process determine if you will qualify through AZDPS to receive a guard card. REMEMBER ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE! Go to http://licensing.azdps.gov/Licensedisqualifiers.asp TIPSTER #2: Let’s face it; Securitas is the largest private security agency in the world and because of that, their standards are higher than Uncle Bob’s Used Security Shack. They are security for some of the biggest companies here in the Phoenix Metro Area and they need people who bring their “A” Game daily. So, truly, they only take the best potential.

BUT, SOMETIMES, THE BEST IS NOT THE MOST EXPERIENCED BUT THE MOST MOTIVATED! If you are a security guard want-to-be with little no actual security experience, walking through the door to this open house and present yourself with less than a driven “I want this job and here is why I would be a GREAT Candidate…” which means being on your best “A” Game, if you are not spruced up and looking sharp and/or are not interested in the company (you didn’t know anything about them or their history) and/or you have the attitude that “I don’t really want the job but, I might take this until something better comes along;” PLEASE STAY HOME because you are not who they are looking for and you would just get your feeling hurt over wasting your time. TIPSTER # 3: If you are a regular reader of the Used Job Shack then you are (by know) familiar with the new generation JOB SEEKING RULE #4. Then you already know what you need to get the full job descriptions…read it completely, several times…tear it apart…pull out all of the required skills/abilities and then, go through each of your jobs and match up what they need and what you have done… that’s only if you really want this job…Now fill out the application. For the sake of those who are NOT…here is a quick review.

Page 8: Being an everyday hero

RULE # FOUR (EXPERIENCE VS. SKILLS): WITH MANY LARGE COMPANIES…it is important that you know that for the first two levels of review, a real person does not see your application because the company’s computer system scans your application. The computer is a very bright 6 year old…very smart but, not a lick of logic. Getting selected for an interview is very difficult when the company screens your application with the computer and you do not have the cheat sheet (full job description). OK…YEA! We are talking (in general) about positions that require little or no experience…“So why make this so difficult?” “Why should I be worried?” The reason you should be concerned is that you are about to make a mistake that will cost you the chance to get hired eight out of ten times in this new job market. You have just made a bad technical error by assuming that you know better and that since experience is only preferred then “what difference does it make if you read the job description or if you cut-n-paste the job description from your killer

resume?” You are getting ready to make the tragic mistake of confusing experience with skills and abilities. You are correct that the positions may not require experience but they do (many times) require a lot

of skills. And if you really want to get hired, you must demonstrate to the

Page 9: Being an everyday hero

employer that you do have the skills! (See the job below): “Previous experience preferred but not required…” "Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness", represented by the three dots on our logo,

are qualities our employees are proud to demonstrate daily.

--------------------------------------------------

ANALYSIS: This job requires a lot of skill or ability to observe, report, ability to create documentation and to follow instructions. On the surface you may not see the relationship between what you did and what this job requires. Here is where you confuse experience with skill. You are bringing this to the conversation not the employer. Please show me where the job requires ___ years of experience observing, reporting or preserving order. It does not. So, (by you confusing this issue) you would be presenting yourself as unskilled and lacking in any or all of the 18+ skills and abilities that the employer needed because you confused experience with skills.

Page 12: Being an everyday hero

Re-read the job description and tell me if this employer is asking for experience or is looking for 18+ skills. If you are focused upon experience or that you believe that no experience is required “so I qualify automatically!” Or worse, “”that’s too much work and effort for this job…” Unless you explain to the employer that you do have the skills, how would they know? How would the computer know that as (say) a CASHIER, that you used the majority of those 18 skills on a daily basis? Did you or do you know that? Whatever you put on your application or in your resume become the only truth and information the employer will judge you by.

STILL CONFUSED…I SEE? Let’s break this down further so you really understand this as this is the most critical part of the application process and where 8 out of 10 people lose their chance to get interviewed, talk to a live person and get hired. Let’s examine the various duties and see how they were a part of your everyday work life. Let’s start with (say) a CASHIER who has never been a security card but, he has 3-5 years of experience working in a retail store.

HERE IS THE CUT-N-PASTED JOB DESCRIPTION FROM HIS RESUME: 2009 – Present CASHIER, BIG BOX WALLYCO – Phoenix, AZ “Worked as a retail cashier operating a POS Electronic Cash Register, handled money and processed payments. Answered customer questions, did price checks and kept the register clean. Counted and balance cash door at end of shift. Sometimes opened or closed store and helped

with related paperwork.” OK! This is actually better than many of you have as a job description. But, does it show the employer that he has the NEEDED skills to be a security guard? How many of the 18+ skills did he list in her job details? If you were a computer screening for 18+ skills did you find any? So, would he qualify? Thought so!

Page 13: Being an everyday hero

Only if the employer was his cousin and already knew that about his actual cashiering experience and could see how all of the 18+ skills were incorporated into his job because cashiering is a passive form of security.

HERE IS THE SAME RESUME

USING THE “USED JOB SHACK METHOD”:

Same person, same experience and skills but actual written from the understanding that the employer did not/does not understand the actual duties of a cashier. 2009 – Present CASHIER, BIG BOX WALLYCO – Phoenix, AZ “Working at the store’s front register, I was required to observe and report suspicious activities and incidents to my manager and if there was an incident, I was required to write a complete report, submit documentation or fill out required corporate, police or for insurance forms in the case of loss or damage. Provided for the security and safety of client property by checking for irregularities – inspected items, examined items being purchased to ensure that the price codes had not been switched or altered. Was required to preserve order and successfully deal with disruptive, angry or customers who might be impaired by drugs or alcohol and to provide for the security and safety of client (store’s) property while - providing for the security and safety of the store’s personnel. Controlled access to control merchandize that was either expensive or age restricted behind locked cabinets to prevent snatch-n-grab thieves. When not on the register, patrolled assigned site location within the store to inspect merchandise, practiced passive shop lifting prevention methodologies, checked and reported to the manager or the maintenance staff any unsafe conditions from improperly stacked merchandise, mechanical or equipment problems and/or hazards of wet floors to exposed wiring. Responded to incidents of broken, spilled merchandise or customer related emergencies (which required documentation of the event and reports to be written). Stocked, removed merchandise from assigned area (and the front-end of the store if on register) and restocked a wide range of merchandize that (many times) required the lifting and/or moving of merchandise up to 25+ pounds.

Page 14: Being an everyday hero

Operating the store’s cash register (a POS Computer register) required excellent reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling to retrieve dropped merchandise or funds. Always operated the register required that the register be concisely checked, monitored and observed for any mechanical problems. Whenever there was a transaction with checks or credit cards it was vital that a check be made to insure that the purchaser(s) were authorized person(s) to use the credit card or verify that the card was not stolen…” Does it show the employer that she has the NEEDED skills to be a security guard? How many of the 18+ skills did she list in her job details? If you were a computer screening for 18+ skills did you find any? So, would she qualify? Thought so!

INSIDER JOB SHACK…SECURITAS! SECURITY OFFICER INTERVIEW - I APPLIED ONLINE AND THE PROCESS TOOK 2 WEEKS Interview Details – Okay so I applied online and got a call after a couple days later asking me to come in for an interview. I went in signed in at the front desk and the receptionist gave me a packet to fill out paperwork and an indecent report. I turned that in and waited for my interview. They asked simple questions about my history and me. Was told I would get a call if my background check cleared. Got a call to come into a class (not paid) it was two days four hours a day. Basically a class about the company. Went into orientation the next Monday and then was given the site I would be working at. Interview Question –

• WAS THE SITUATION REPORT YOU WRITE WHEN YOU FIRST COME IN. =============================================================

SECURIY OFFICER INTERVIEW - I APPLIED ONLINE Interview Details – They made you take a test over Securitas.com where you answer question like.

• WOULD YOU TAKE A PURSE THAT WAS FOUND OR WOULD YOU TURN IT IN? • WOULD YOU TURN IN YOUR BOSS FOR BEING DRUNK ON THE JOB?

Stuff like that. As long as you are not a felon and can pass a background check and you are willing to work for a low wage you are in. They also give you a drug test which is the kind that they swab the inside of your mouth with cotton. If they can use you they normally will but if they don't have a spot for you, you might wait weeks to start work. ============================================================== SECURITY OFFICER INTERVIEW - I APPLIED ONLINE AND THE PROCESS TOOK 2 WEEKS Interview Details – I applied for Securitas because my dad said that they're the security company that works at Intel and that he'd been talking to one of the guards who said they're hiring like crazy. He told me to go in and gave me the guard's name. They didn't call me back for 2 weeks when I applied online. They finally did call me for an interview and I just had it this morning. When I showed up, the office was filled with people waiting for their interview too. They had CNN playing on the TV in the waiting room. The receptionist made me sign in and I was given my application pack, which included everything I filled out online, and a mock incident report, which during the interview they didn't even tell me if I did right or not because I've never worked security before. There was one guy in the waiting room dressed in business casual, a woman in a long sleeve Quicksilver tee and sweatpants, and a couple, and also a father and son applying on the computer. My interview was supposed to be at 11:30 but since everybody arrived before me, I sat and watched as they pulled everybody back for their interview. Within 2 minutes, they were on their way again. I soon found out why as I was pulled back. I was expecting to get these hard hitting questions, something worth a challenge but it was yet more paperwork. The interviewer just asked all these questions off of a packet, "Do you have a valid license?", "What's your driving record like?", "Would you be able to work overtime and holidays?" That was it. Then I was sent on my way while she said she would have to review my application with the other interviewer and would let me know. Interview Question –

• WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A SECURITY OFFICER? ===============================================================

MCDONALD’S This is it! It's time you worked for someone who will give you the tools to learn, grow and be what you want to be - both personally and professionally.

We're looking for hard working, enthusiastic individuals who want to be a part of a winning team. If you enjoy working with people and love to learn new things, we want to meet you. We offer flexible schedules and the opportunity to advance within our restaurants. Got what it takes? Apply online and see what your future can

hold. APPLY TO EACH STORE INDIVIDUALLY – THAT ARE WITHIN 5-10 MILES OF WHERE YOU LIVE TO HAVE THE “ADVANTAGE OF LIVING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.” TIPSTER: Apply to stores that are closest to where you live. This will allow you to take advantage of living within the neighborhood. Use this technique (below) with stores where the manager's name is posted. Normally, we would tell you to NOT call but, go in person as this is the best way to introduce yourself and to show the manager that you are serious about working for them. McDonald's is different. Managers might manage multiple stores and if you just go, they might not be there. HERE IS THE MCDONALD'S DRILL: A. Apply online to the store. Do the application correctly (ala Rule Number Four) and complete. B. Call over to the store between 2-4 PM ONLY. C. Whoever answers the phone usually gives you their name, right? Start talking to them like you know them and then ask for their boss by his/her first name. SAMPLE: "Hey, Joe...are you guys swamped...man, we are over here...Hey, is Pedro in? Can I talk to him real quick?" There is a complicate psychological explanation as to why this works but, it does. D. You are on the phone with Pedro. Change gears by saying " Mr. Trujillo, I know you are very busy but, I just completed your online application and I was

Cashier Interview - I applied in-person Interview Details – It was really easy, they didn't ask me any questions that I had to study prior to the interview. Interview Question –

• What are your weaknesses? ============================================ Fry Cook - I applied online and the process took a day Interview Details – Walked in, talked to manager, and asked questions. Interview Question – How much do you want? Crew Member - I applied online and the process took a day Interview Details – I applied at McDonalds online and was called in a few days after. The interview took about 5 minutes and was easy for being my first job, for a different employer. She asked me the general questions like,

• Where do you see yourself in 5 years? • What could you offer us?

Then she asked me to tell a bit about myself, not work related, just in general. I told her I like to read and she asked me what kind of books, being the book worm I am it was difficult telling her which ones I really like so I gave her a broad genre. I believe asking me questions like that made it easier to relax and let the answers flow more naturally. Interview Question –

• What could you offer us? ============================================ Crew Member - I applied in-person and the process took a day Interview Details – I filled out a paper application, talked with the hiring manager, and was hired the same day. The interviewer asked a few questions about my personal situation, and then said I was hired. I reported in two days later to begin computer-based training, and worked my first shift two days after that. Interview Question –

• Are you sure you want to work here, with all this experience in desk jobs? This is not, sometimes dirty work, standing for the full shift. {KILLER RESUME BIT THIS GUY! I BETCHA, HE WORE A SUIT?}

JOB SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR FRIENDS @ SAFEWAY… LOCALIZE YOUR JOB SEARCH AND YOU CAN ENHANCE YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING HIRED… STAY WITHIN 5 MILES OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD (85008) IN CENTRAL THE PHOENIX/AIRPORT AREA….AS THIS IS YOUR SEARCH LOCAL ZONE…

STEP ONE: APPLY ONLINE… http://www.careersatsafeway.com/ DID YOU KNOW? 80% of all applications get thrown away because you NEVER showed the employer that you had the skills that THEY were looking for. You got too caught up with explaining what you did instead of showing how that related to what this employer wanted. HINT: If I was an auto mechanic applying for a courtesy clerk position at Food City…the last thing I would talk about would be repairing a car…I would talk about dealing with my customers, resolving their problems… MAKE SENSE? TRY IT! IT DOES WORK MIRACLES! YOU MUST HAVE OPEN AVAILABLE TO WORK IN THIS INDUSTRY UNLESS YOU ARE APPLYING FOR PT WORK. STEP TWO: GO INTRODUCE YOURSELF …If you really want the job, demonstrate that by going over to the store and introducing yourself…If you can’t or won’t…this tells the employer everything they need to know about how seriously you REALLY want their job…NOT!

Page 25: Being an everyday hero

Most importantly, this says that you do not care enough…that you might do this job…OR NOT? NO ONE wants to hire the person who demonstrates that they would take this job as a last resort…everyone wants to hire the person who is excited…who likes/love the work and who appreciates the opportunity to get THIS job. STEP THREE: EXPLAIN THAT YOU UNDERSTAND …that you are being offered an opportunity and that you appreciate it…because the employer believes that they are offering you an opportunity and most applicants

(mostly those not hired) never demonstrate that they get it…little-a-lone that they appreciate it. At the end of the interview, tell the employer that you still want the job…these things make a big difference and many times…means the difference between getting hired or not.

APPLY NOW FROM OUR ONLINE CAREER CENTER AT http://www.careersatsafeway.com/

NOTE: ALL APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED AND A CRIMINAL RECORD WILL NOT DISQUALIFY YOU FROM EMPLOYMENT! The nature of the offence and how it related to the position that you are applying for plus the age of the offence and the circumstances of the offence.

TIPSTER: HUMANIZE THIS! There is a big difference in I stole to feed my babies versus I stole that big screen TV from WALMART…GET IT???? http://www.careersatsafeway.com/

Page 26: Being an everyday hero

THE OLD FAT MAN SITTING ON THE PARK BENCH ANSWERS AN ANGRY CAMPER:

“YOU LIED ABOUT SAFEWAY!” Many times in dealing with our previously incarcerated job seekers, we have found that they tend to blame the “F” word for all their difficulties in finding re-entry employment. It is an easy associate but, NOT always true. While blaming that foul, evil letter “F” that you tattoo on your forehead every new day of your job searching seems the correct thing to do but, you give it too much credit. Why did you NOT get hired at (say) Safeway had little to do with your background unless your past is directly linked or associated with the job you are applying for or you are totally exhibiting no remorse:

• “YEA! I would steal that 55 inch TV again…Hell, I didn’t really steal it but it was Super bowl Sunday…I would have brought it back on Monday…REALLY! Would I do it again…well…not till Super Bowl Sunday…”

• “Yea, I shot him but, he deserved it! He had not right to talk to me in that tone!”

Understand that we used extreme examples but, they are true examples that applicants told their potential, new bosses at the interview. Hopefully you get the serious point of that your offensive is not the real issue but your attitude and that creates fear that the you have not learned anything in the process and that you would be more inclined to repeat the behavior as you see nothing wrong with what you originally did. If you were the hiring employer, would you want that on your watch? Would you be willing to take a risk? You know that answer! More importantly, if you did not get hired at Safeway, might have more to do with your availability. Please remember that the job description (you did read it, didn’t ya?) told you that candidates with open availability will always be on the “A” list when they select interviewees because most stores run extended hours and as the new guy, they are hiring you to work the shifts that their older, more seasoned employees don’t want to work. That’s reality! That you couldn’t work evenings, weekends or holidays have more to do with you not getting hired that the old “F” word. That you are living in Central Phoenix and the location you applied for is in Anthem might be a good reason you didn’t get selected unless they knew you were looking to move out to Anthem (and that you communicated that to that local manager

Page 27: Being an everyday hero

before or right after you completed the application…they do not have ESP or ESPN if they don’t have cable). The application and how you filled it out would be the primary reason why you were not selected. No slight on you because 8 out of 10 applications get tossed because they were done incorrectly. If you didn’t use our Rule # 4 formula then, you did the application incorrectly. Not bragging because it is true. If you didn’t know to get the full job description, didn’t know how to break it down to the skills and abilities that the employer was looking (screening) for…if you didn’t know how to take that and create a narrative that incorporates successfully all of the key words and phrase then you missed it by a mile – unless old lady luck was shining on you or riding shotgun with you that day. If she wasn’t and you didn’t get called…then, I would say that is why they didn’t call you because you never showed the employer that you have the specific skills and abilities that they spelled out in the job description. Please remember that just because it requires no experience does not mean that the job did not require certain skills or abilities – and sometimes a lot of them. Because you were not schooled on Rule # 4, I will cut you some slack. But, that is a method of correctly filling out an application and you should become schooled in it if you want to be successful in this new age of job searching. So...not knowing the step-by-step process you took…I would still content that there were other factors rather than (our old whipping boy) the “F” word, as to why Safeway didn’t call ya…SORRY DUDE! =================================================================== General Warehouse Req ID: 21032BR. 125 S. 67th Ave. Bldg. 1, Suite #105, Phoenix, AZ. Amazon Warehouse Worker - Interviewed at Amazon.com Interview Details – Hiring at Amazon was the easiest job to ever get. They never really interviewed me, but instead I just took a sorting test on a computer and did a mouth swab drug test for fifteen minutes. Interview Question – •Can you handle a fast paced environment? Warehouse Associate - Interviewed at Amazon.com Interview Details – Hiring is through a temporary employment agency. Periodic "conversions" offer employment to those who are considered solid workers. The company seems to not enjoy as good a reputation as they might like. It seems many aspirants to employment decide to move on rather than deal with the issues/problems inherent with Amazon. Lead Fulfillment Associate - I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - Interview Details – Completed online application. I was contacted the next day for a phone interview. The phone interview was a bit awkward. There was a delay in the line so my interviewer and I interrupted each other a few times. The questions weren't too difficult, mostly about safety, and times when you've had to address an unethical situation with an employee. The interviewer definitely was reading from a script, and records all your answers. They let you know right away at the end of the interview if you will be invited for an in person interview or not. Luckily, I was. You schedule your own interview online, I scheduled mine for about two weeks after the phone interview. You must bring Proof of Education to your interview, and note that even though it says a copy of your high school diploma is fine, you must have the original. I made this mistake and had to drive the 45 minutes back to my house to get the original. Another girl was sent back to her house to retrieve her original as well, and actually missed being interviewed that day because she lived too far away to be back in time. After having your POE and ID checked, your group (in my case it was

Page 40: Being an everyday hero

only myself and one other person) are led into another room where you're given a short worksheet that has a role play exercise and a second problem to evaluate your basic math and problem solving skills. You're given 15 minutes to complete both, and then you're taken into a room where you're split up and interviewed individually. At first, the two I was interviewing with seemed a bit stiff, they seemed like they were having a long day but I kept making little jokes and smiling and they lightened up quickly. You do the role play with one of the interviewers as a problem employee, and I will warn you, they do NOT make this easy. I've had plenty of experience in acting and improv but the interviewer playing the difficult employee was shutting me down at every angle. Just try your best, and do what you feel would work if you were in that employees shoes. After the role play, we went over the math problem and they do ask that you try to give some "out of the box" answers. Then it follows with the usual interview questions: •Tell me about a time when you... etc. When the interview is over, you don't receive any feedback. All I got was "It was great to meet you." and escorted to the door. I was sure I didn't get the position even though I felt the interview went so well. Two days later I received a call from Amazon HR telling me they'd like to offer me the position and set the date for my welcome event. Interview Question – •The most difficult part was the role play exercise; they really don't give you anything to work with. Fulfillment Associate - I applied through a staffing agency and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Amazon.com. Interview Details – process was standard staffing agency interview. Tell me about yourself. Process was standard staffing agency interview. Tell me about yourself. Process was standard staffing agency interview. Tell me about yourself. Process was standard staffing agency interview. Tell me about yourself. Process was standard staffing agency interview. Warehouse Associate - Interviewed at Amazon.com Interview Details – I applied online through snagajob and got an email the next day to go to a hire event and pick the day I wanted to go so I went the following Monday, it was Wednesday and I could’ve picked as soon as Friday, and when I got to the event I had the job I just had to take a mouth swab drug test and take my

proof of education. I applied for a seasonal part time position so I believe that is why it was so easy. Just waiting on my background to clear Interview Question – There was no question. I just had to complete a questionnaire when I applied which replaced a real interview. Either strongly agree or strongly disagree on questionnaire. Warehouse Associate - I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Amazon.com in June 2014. Interview Details – I applied online at Amazon.com. About two weeks later I got an email asking me if I wanted to set up an appointment online. It was a direct hire event for a new warehouse opening up in Moreno Valley. I set up an appointment that wasn't for another three weeks. I arrived at a hotel that had Amazon signs showing you where to go. When I went inside there was some Amazon employees sitting at a few tables, and there was a line of people waiting to speak with them. When I finally sat down to speak with them, I expecting an interview but instead the employee asked for my ID and my diploma and told me there was no interview and then she gave me a contingency letter offer of employment. I got the job as long as I passed the background check and oral drug test. The lady sent me to another room with about 20 other people who got the job to take our oral drug test and watch a video about Amazon and what they had to offer to their new employees! It was by far the easiest interview I had ever been to in my life. It wasn't really an interview because they didn't ask me a single question. Interview Question – No questions were asked. Fulfillment Associate - I applied online and the process took 5 months - interviewed at Amazon.com in June 2014. Interview Details – I filled out an online application, and took a test (also online). That was back in February of this year, I then received a few emails about an Amazon Fulfillment Center and what it is like to work there. Finally at the end of of May I received an email to come to a tier 1 hiring event (which I had to pick one their posted times listed in the email). I went to the event, where they had me bring my photo I.D. and proof of my education. After taking both and checking them over they gave me a temporary access card so that I could get into the area where the hiring event was being held. I was then handed a piece of paper with information on what my schedule would be, and what the next steps in the hiring process would be like, they called it a contingent

hiring agreement. I was then sent to a room with about 15 to 20 other people and we were asked to take I.D photos for our access cards, then we were given a few speeches from some of the upper management and HR reps, and finally we were asked to take a drug test. We were told that as long as we passed both the drug and the background tests then our job offer would be considered valid, and we go on to the next part of the hiring process, the new hire orientation. It took about 6 days to get an email back after my drug and background test, the email stated that I had passed both, and that I should be on the lookout for my next email to schedule my new hire orientation. I am now just waiting for that email. I would like to mention that Amazon has awesome benefits and everyone at the group hiring event was really nice and friendly! Interview Question – There were no interview questions; they just offered us the job. Picker Interview - I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Amazon.com. Interview Details – Generally, when they are interested, usually around peak season which various from building to building, they will do two phone interviews. Peek for anything going out the building, which is labeled out bound is the usually holiday seasons. Anything coming into the building, which is labeled inbound, is usually as you can expect the months following the peak of outbound. After the two phone interviews they will ask you to come in for a brief interview. The biggest things to worry about are if you have a second job they will be concerned and probably not hire you and if you seem physically unable to walk miles a day.

NOTE: THIS HAS CHANGED YEARLY FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS. SOME YEARS IT IS AS BELOW AND OTHER YEARS IT WAS THE POLAR OPPOSITE! IT COMES DOWN TO NUMBERS – THE NUMBER NEEDED VERSUS NUMBER APPLIED. If you are ready for the challenge and seem to be in okay condition you shall get hired because the turnover rate is exceptional high at Amazon. Following employment you will have to take a SWAB DRUG TEST. Nothing major, just make sure you wash and rinse beforehand. OH AND DON'T LIE ON THE BACKGROUND CHECK EVEN IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING.

Why Didn't I Get the Job? You applied with high hopes. Those hopes got even higher after you completed your interview. You wrapped up by stating how much you really wanted the job, and then heard those vaguely promising words from the hiring manager as you left:

"We'll be in touch." You sent a note of thanks, reiterating why you were the best choice for the position. But then, after days of waiting, you received a call or email saying that the employer went with another candidate. Now, you can't help but ask yourself:

"Why didn't I get the job?" Honestly, there are hundreds of potential reasons why an employer may pass you over, ranging from interview mistakes and culture fit to skills gaps and bad references. Even if you ask, you may never get a straight answer from a hiring manager. But if you get turned down for a job, try not to feel sorry for yourself. Do a little introspection to see if you can figure out where things went wrong – and then use what you learn to improve your results the next time around. Here are a few questions for you to consider: Did I make a "rookie" mistake? Like it or not, simple things such as arriving late (or arriving more than 10 minutes early), not dressing professionally, or speaking negatively about a former employer or co-worker can ruin your chances at landing a job. Jot down a list of minor mistakes you may have made and vow not to do the same things twice.

Did my skills really fit the job? Were you overqualified for the role, or did you lack essential experience? If so, the employer may have found a better-suited candidate whose skills and experience more closely fit the available role. Was I a good match for the culture? Consider your personality and work style from the employer's point of view. Could their environment be too laid-back? Too fast-paced for you? If so, getting passed over is probably for the best. Even if you had the right skills and experience, you wouldn't thrive in an organization long-term unless you meshed with their corporate culture. Did the interview really go well? •Did you make appropriate eye contact – or fidget and stare at the table? •Did you make a strong case for why you were the best choice – or focus too much on your shortcomings? •Did you answer the interviewer's questions directly and succinctly – or stumble over your words and occasionally lose your train of thought? Like word processing, soldering or writing code, interviewing is a skill. If you determine that your interview performance could've cost you the job, try practicing with a friend or family member. Make sure you know the answers to common interview questions (e.g., "Why should we hire you?") and send the right nonverbal cues to convey your enthusiasm and professionalism.

The Beginning With over a decade of experience in the Fast Casual bakery business, Louis Basile moved to Phoenix with the dream of starting his own restaurant concept. In 1996, he founded the Wildflower Bread Company and opened the first location in Scottsdale, Arizona. From the very start, the company aspired

to build a reputation as more than just a specialty bakery and coffeehouse. In order to become a uniquely successful neighborhood restaurant, Wildflower has always focused on its “Three Pillars of Excellence” — Great Food, Outstanding Service and Everyday Affordability.

Our Purpose and Values Everyone at Wildflower is dedicated to helping change lives for the better, create authentic traditions, build connected communities and feed the soul with passion. We believe this starts with you, and together we make a difference. ================================================================== TIPSTER: OK...you say that if they will hire a 16 year old then they will hire anyone. Think so? Why aren't you already working there? Maybe, it has to do with the fact that you are confusing experience with skills and abilities? No matter how much your lazy side tells you to cut-n-paste your construction or warehouse resume into this application; you would do better to go over to ONET and grab a better selection of key words and phrases before you put together this application. THEN, if you want a killer resume, take the new application info (collected at ONET) and transfer that back into your resume. Bing...Bang...Bong! Yes, Camper, you know have the resume that got the 16 year old the job (they are taught about ONET in High School...New School approach) DOWNLOAD OR PRINT OUT MENU TO STUDY ON YOUR WAY OVER: http://www.paradisebakery.com/images/paradise-menu-btn.gif

Cashier Interview I applied online. The process took a week Interview Details: I found their ad on Used Job Bank. I went in to the store. Interviewed with District Manager I believe. He said I would be hired and if I didn't get a call before the weekend was over, and then I was to call him

Page 47: Being an everyday hero

personally. I got his card. I didn't need to call him, Wildflower called me, asking me to bring in my social security card and such. Easy. Interview Questions: I was asked what I knew about Wildflower values. I answered fine, as I had reviewed them on their website and a few stuck out to me. The company's values are really important to them, so if you have an interview, don't BS this question. Their values are awesome and apply to everyone both in and out of the work force. Find a few that really speak to you.

Breadhead (for Real, Isn't That Cute?) Interview I applied in-person. The process took 4+ weeks Interview Details: We had a booklet that we had to have the other bread heads help fill out for us and had general interview questions, had to have the booklet done within a couple months Interview Questions:

• What do you dislike the most about working here?

See What Wildflower Bread Company Employees Are Saying

Hard, rewarding work, and great food too You learn A LOT. How to prepare and store food, the right way to clean, how to make espresso and lemonade. They use the Aloha POS system which is very easy to use. The regulars are very sweet, the employees are funny, and there is a whole bunch of teamwork involved with the job. You can get as many hours as you want, as long as you work hard to get them. CEO and management are all VERY NICE.
