Recitation Section ObjectivesRecitation sections are essential to your success in this course. Recitation is a time to ask questions, discuss course materials, and express opinions in a non-judgmental environment. The purpose of these weekly meetings is to get you thinking critically about the concepts discussed in lecture and in your textbook. During recitation you will:

Learn how to analyze architectural concepts and to discuss them critically with your peers

Review key works discussed in lecture

Put into practice the terminology and architectural concepts discussed in class

You will be able to apply these skills not only to your coursework in HAA0040, but to future courses in the History of Art and Architecture Department and beyond.

Recitation meetings

5% of your grade for HAA0040 that comes from your participation in section meetings involves three factors:

Your section meeting attendance (which will be taken each recitation section)

Your participation in small group and class discussions and exercises

Your asking questions and offering comments in class generally

You will be asked to assess your class participation from 0 to 10 at the end of the semester, meaning:03 poor attendance and/or little significant participation47 good attendance and occasional to average participation810 good attendance and frequent participation

Switching your recitation

If you need to switch your recitation time you must discuss this with your TA by the end of the first recitation session (Friday 8/30). This switch MUST be approved by your TA.

Unexcused absences

You will lose 1% for every unexcused absence from recitation sections (with 5% maximum loss of your total grade).

Excused absences

If you need to miss recitation, please email your TA (not Professor Toker) at least 2 hours in advance of the section meeting. Absences will be excused for extenuating circumstances only.
