The Baroque movement started in1600's Italy until 1750. The wordBaroque comes from the Portuguesephrase for 'Mishapen Pearl'.
Baroque included scary, dark andreligious art as well as architecture,sculpture and music.
Baroque spawned some of the world'sgreatest art, from painters such asRembrandt, Caravaggio, Rubens andBernini.

Some of the qualities of Baroque Artare grandeur, sensuous richness,drama, dynamism, movement, tension,and emotional exuberance. Paintingsare often dark and graphical. Thedevelopment of the Baroque style wasclosely linked with the Catholic Church.
The Baroque on its journey towardsEngland, made some stops in BrusselsFrance, Spain, South America andThe Netherlands.
Baroque went out of popularity in1750, closely followed by the classicalmovement (neoclassisism). However, itspainting are still selling today, with aprivately owned self portrait due to sellfor approx 15 million pounds!
