BAROQUE WHEN? WHAT? WHO? The Baroque movement started in 1600's Italy until 1750. The word Baroque comes from the Portuguese phrase for 'Mishapen Pearl'. Baroque included scary, dark and religious art as well as architecture, sculpture and music. Baroque spawned some of the world's greatest art, from painters such as Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Rubens and Bernini.
