The all purpose comb is used for general haircutting and styling. An all purpose comb with a curved interior assists in lifting subsections and partings of hair while cutting.

A taper comb is used for cutting or trimming hair in those areas where a gradual blending of the hair is required. The taper end helps with trimming mustaches, tapering necklines and blending around the ear areas.

A flat handle comb with evenly spaced teeth works best to achieve a float-top style.

A wide-toothed comb can be used in hairstyle finishing or to spread relaxer creams, detangling the hair or comb through curly hair

The tail comb is the best choice for sectioning long hair or when making partings to wrap on perm rods or rollersThe pick or afro comb is usually the most efficient comb for combing through tight curl patterns or permanent waved hair.4Styling brushesSmooth, wave or add fullness to the hairStimulate the scalp

Thinning shears are also called blending, tapering, and texturizing shears and are used to taper hair ends, reduce hair thickness or create special texturizing effects.6Clippers and trimmersRotary motor clippersPivot motor clippersMagnetic clipperTrimmersCordless clippersBlades and guards

The rotary motor clippers are also known as the universal clippers. These can be used on cutting both wet and dry hair.

Pivot and magnetic clippers are less powerful than rotary clippers but still essentially cut the hair in the same fashion Trimmers are used for outlining, edging and facial hair trims.

Cordless clippers are a very important innovation for barbers because they are easily maneuverable and portable.

Blades range in sizes and styles. Barbers can choose the size of the blade based on the desired length of the clients hair.

Guards are also know as attachment combs and are meant to allow the hair to be left longer than what might be achieved from the size of the clipper.7Straight razorsChangeable-blade straightConventional straight razor

Straight razors are used for facial shaves, neck shaves, finish work around the sideburn and behind-the-ear areas There are two types of straight razors typically used in barbering. Overall the two type of razors are very similar and however they do have slight differences. The changeable blade straight razor are easier to be replaced than the conventional razors. Also the conventional razors require stropping and honing in order to maintain a cutting edge.8Lather receptacles Electric latherizers Lather mugsLather brushesShaving soaps
