Narrative Text - Bear & Rabbit

Once upon a time there lived as neighbours, a bear and a rabbit. The rabbit was a good shot, and the bear being very clumsy, could not use the arrow to good advantage. The bear would call over the rabbit, and asked the rabbit to take his bow and arrows and came with the bear to the other side of the hill. The rabbit, fearing to arouse the bear’s anger by refusing, consented and went with the bear and shot enough buffaloes to satisfy the hungry family. Indeed, he shot and killed so many that there was lots os meat left after the bear and his family had loaded themselves, and packed all they could carry home.

The bear was gluttonous and did not want the rabbit to get any of the meat, so the poor rabbit could not even taste the blood from the butchering, as the bear would have to go home hungry after his hard day’s work.

The bear was the father of five children. The youngest child was very kind to the rabbit. The mother bear knowing that her youngest child was a very hearty eater, always gave him an extra large piece of meat, but the youngest child didn’t eat. He would take with him and pretend to play ball with it, kicking it toward the rabbit’s house, and in this way the poor rabbit would get his meal unknown to the papa bear.

Bread

Almost everyone eats bread daily, especially for breakfast. Bread making is not a complicated task. You must have an oven, water, sugar, salt, flour and yeast. The basic ingredient is flour comes from wheat. There are two kinds of flour which is soft, and the hard one.Hard flour, made by Winter wheat, is better choice for making bread. Bread using hard flour produces better texture and taste. Luke warm water is added to the flour to make dough.Yeast is a microscopic organism, the size may not be impressive but it is capable of producing carbon dioxide. It is also easy to use. Powered yeast needs only be dissolved in water to be used instantly. Yeast works best in the presence of sugar and warmth.Besides, encouraging yeast to grow quickly in the dough, sugar is added to give flour to the bread. Salt is added for the same purpose, to make the bread taste nice. However, it has the reverse effect on yeast, unlike sugar. The next ingredient is oil, olive oil, com oil, peanut oil and butter. It is essential for making the bread tender. After mixing with all these ingredients, the flour are hard beaten before sent to the oven.

Nuclear PowerNuclear power seems in some ways much cleaner than other sources of energy. Take oil or coal as an example. When they are used in power stations, a great deal of smoke is produced. The smoke contains a great deal of acid. Even if the smoke is cleaned by filters, a lot of the acid still escapes into the air. This can be carried by clouds from power stations in England to Scandinavia. When it rains there, the acid comes down with the rain. As a result, the fish in lakes and trees in forests begin to die.But many people are still against nuclear power. They believe that the problem is not just the danger of the accident in the atomic power stations. Highly radioactive material is used. Radioactivity can cause cancer and other illnesses. Only a part of the material is used. The rest-called waste-is just as radioactive. Although it is still highly dangerous, this radioactive waste is often thrown into the sea. Nobody can be certain what will happen to it there. Only one thing is certain. It will be highly dangerous for at least 240.000 years!

What is mainly discuss in the text?a. The acid rainb. An alternative energyc. An atomic power stationd. Highly radioactive materiale. The advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power

The main idea of paragraph 2 is that ……a. Nuclear power is very dangerousb. Radioactivity may cause some diseasesc. Radioactive material is highly dangerous for man’s life

d. Many people disagree with the use of nuclear energye. Radioactive waste will be highly dangerous for at least 240.000 years

All of the following statements are true EXCEPT ………a. Acid rain makes plants fertileb. The smoke produced by the burning coal contains a lot of acidc. Nuclear power may cause some health problemsd. People should be aware of the danger of radioactive wastee. When oil or coal is burned, it produces some smoke.

The underlined word in paragraph 2 means …..a. locateb. existc. comed. occure last

Nuclear Power 2Nuclear power is generated by using uranium, which is a metal mined in various parts of the world. The first large-scale nuclear power station was opened at Calder Hall in Cumbria, England, in 1956.Some military ships and submarines have nuclear power plant for engines. Nuclear power produces around 11% of the world’s energy needed, and produces huge amounts of energy. It causes no pollution as you’d get when burning fossil fuels. The advantages of nuclear are as follows:1. It costs about the same as coal, so it’s not expensive to make2. It doesn’t produce smoke or carbon dioxide, so it doesn’t contribute to the greenhouse effect.3. It produces huge amounts of energy from small amount of uranium.4. It produces small amounts of waste.5. It is reliableOn the other hand, nuclear power is very, very dangerous. It must be sealed up and buried for many years to allow the radioactivity to die away. Furthermore, although it is reliable, a lot of money has to be spent on safety because if it does go wrong, a nuclear accident can be a major disaster.People are increasingly concerned about this. In the 1990’s nuclear power was the fastest growing source of power in many parts of the world. In 2005, it was the 2nd slowest-growing.

Muslim’s HeadscarfMuslim’s Headscarf

The right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the UN charter and considered by many to be a basic human right. Some religions require special diet, others prayer at specific times. Why should a religious mode of dress receive as much protection as these other aspects of religious freedom? Many Muslim women view the veil as a means to protect their modesty and privacy. Just as we would not force any women to be seen in public in her underwear if she did not feel comfortable doing so, why should a woman be forced to show her hair if she does not want to? Modesty is a personal judgment call; some are comfortable in the smallest bikini while others prefer a lot more clothing. No one but the woman herself should make that decision.Muslim women are not the only ones to feel coerced over their mode of dress. Most people are affected by the societal norms surrounding them. Fashion trends could be seen in exactly the same light as religious traditions.Banning head coverings is only likely to provoke a more extreme reaction among highly religious communities. Framing laws to ban only Islamic forms of dress could be

Page 7: bahasa inggris

considered an attack on one religion. Feeling under attack could cause the Islamic community to close off into itself. They could set up religious schools where their children can dress as they want them to and not mix with children from other faiths. These effects could never be good for the integration of society and would further the influence of extremists. Internationally, the perceived attack on Islamic values would inflame wider Muslim opinion, feed conspiracy theories and add to the dangerous feeling that there is a clash of civilizations.Intolerant schools make up problems as an excuse for not allowing Muslims freedom of religious expression. In a multicultural society, students should be aware of the different religious practise and cultural traditions of their classmates, and be taught to understand and respect these. Without such respect, Muslims and other groups with distinctive dress, such as Orthodox Jews and Sikhs, will be driven out of mainstream education and forced to educate their children separately, which will really create divisions and alienation.Based on the above discussion, the government should not banned Muslim’s headscarf as a part of school or office uniforms.Adapted from www.wikipedia.com

The Digestive System

Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to build up new cells and replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be changed into substance that can be carried in the blood to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion. The first digestive process takes place in the mount. The food we eat is broken up into small pieces by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mount. Saliva contains digestive juices which moisten the food. So, it can be swallowed easily. From the mount, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into the stomach. Here, the food is mixed with the juices secreted by the cells in the stomach for several hours. Then the food enters the small intestine. All the time the muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing, and moving the food onwards. In a few hours, the food changes into acids. These are soon absorbed by the villi (microscopic b ranch projections from the intestine walls) and passed into the bloodstream.
