FACTS ABOUT MRS. HOWARDI have been teaching at McKibben for 28 years.

I taught fifth for 10 years, third for 13 years, and now this is my fifth year back in fifth grade.

I went to McKibben, then to Cal Poly Pomona, UC Irvine, and Chapman University.

I am received my Masters in Special Education in May 2013.

My family has been involved in South Whittier since 1956—my mother and brother were teachers in the district. I went to McKibben for Kindergarten through third grade and then to Monte Vista. My sister is a fourth grade teacher in Ontario.

My hobbies and leisure activities include: reading, golfing, riding bikes, and Angel baseball.

OBJECTI

OBJECTIVESEach day the lessons in class teach a specific part of a standard. The objective is posted in the class and the students know what the objective is for each lesson. The objective is referred to often during the course of the lesson.Example: Students will identify the complete subject and predicate in a sentence.

GRADING POLICYStudents complete many types of assignments during the

course of a trimester. Classwork and homework are to practice skills learned in class. In class, we sometimes work in groups or pairs to communicate about our learning and help each other. At home, it is good to have a parent, sibling, or other person help and support with homework completion. Classwork and homework are not considered as part of the achievement grade.

The achievement grade is based on how well the student knows the material at the end of the chapter or lesson. Tests and quizzes are used to calculate the achievement grade. Short and long term projects that require a student to use many skills learned in class are also part of the achievement grade.

The standard grade is based on how far the student is toward mastery of grade level standards. At the beginning of the year these will be low since the students have not had enough time to master the skill. As we move toward the end of the year, the students standard grades should go up.

HOMEWORK POLICY
