Once Upon a Time a band made

music for the entire family and they lived happily ever after...

leah white & the magic mirrors

about the band Once upon A Time There were Four friends...

LEAH WHITE, SINGER/ SONGWRITER spends most of her time playing on the playground on sunny days with her children Lauren, Nora and Jillian. She keeps all of the Magic Mirrors in line by making them share toys and having them speak nicely to one another. These days you will see her at the shows with her family in front, a wireless mic in one hand and running around in the audience dancing and singing with the crowd with extreme high energy and enthusiasm.

BEN STROMAN, GUITARIST Ben started with Leah when he was only 19 and she was just start-ing out as a solo artist. He strayed from the guitar for video games for a while but then realized his true calling as a Magic Mirror. Ben is a righteous guitar player with an intense guitar lead look when he jams out. He also writes his own stuff…maybe fans will get to hear it sometime. Sorry ladies, Ben is taken with Sarah who is off at the University of Tennessee. He’s the middle child out of 3 and is proud to be the only boy in his family.

MARCUS HUGHES, DRUMMER a native of Colorado, he moved to Houston when he knew where the cool people lived. Marcus is the free spirit of the band and plays all kinds of drums: jass, techno, african you name it..and he even dresses to match his genre. He shares nicely with the others and does-n’t allow Robert to pick on Leah and Stancliff which is very friendly.

ROBERT TERRILL, BASS PLAYER is the crazy professor! He loves studying toads, flies and doesn’t know what happened to the flies but he left with the toads. He picked up a bass when he was a young lad and never turned back. He’s graduating from Sam Houston State in December and geeks out on music theory with every song that Leah introduces. Robert is only 23 and is the best bassist eva!

Paul Beebe is a reformed school bully. However, he has learned that having a kind heart and sharing with others is what life is all about. His favorite food is Mexican and his favorite color is blue. As a boy he loved trains and had an entire room filled with them at one point. He grew up with two older brothers that would pick on him and so he learned to be tough. He started playing piano at age 6 and at 15 picked up a guitar. After that, he learned to play bass, drums and can pretty much work his way around any instrument. He was in his school choir but they could not tame his rock 'n roll voice. Today you will see him recording Leah White albums in The Beebe Gunn Studio and producing other artists as they move up in their careers. He's in tons of bands in Houston but as a Magic Mirror you will see him on the bass doing his crazy gorilla noise for Old MacDonald and pegging the little kids with our beach balls.

There once was a Mommy inspired to sing and write music for families when driving down the road

with her three kids in tow. Having children of her own introduced her to a world of kids music. She thought to herself ,“There could be so much more to children’s music! What about music for everyone in the entire family?” Shortly after this, she wrote “Bad Attitude” which was quickly followed by other songs that she performed for family and friends. Three albums and multiple awards later, Leah White has an es-tablished band “Leah White & The Magic Mirrors” that plays all over the State of Texas where she calls home. Leah White is from all over Texas. Having a father who is a Methodist Minister required her and her family to move to small towns all over the State and so many places are considered home and part of who she has become. She began singing and playing the piano as a small girl. However, it has always been a long-standing family tradition to play the acoustic/ electric guitar. Her Grandmother, June Horton, a singer and actress played guitar and piano and was her first vision of the well-rounded female entertainer. Leah’s Father, Dr. Jay Horton, picked it up in the 3rd Grade and has since become an accomplished singer, songwriter and lead guitarist. Christmas memories are of eve-ryone in the family in the living room passing the guitar around singing songs. These influences inspired Leah in high school to pick up the guitar and demand her Father to teach her the very first song of choice- Stairway to Heaven. She began to write her first songs when she was 16 years old. Leah White now writes music focusing on her audience. Her goal is to "Make the parents laugh. Make the kids sing, move and learn, but most of all have everyone enjoy the music". There are not many artists in music today that are writing and trying hard to entertain the entire family. There is a separation of what is for children and what is for adults and it doesn't have to be that way. Listening to Leah White & the Magic Mirrors makes everyone move and groove. It sends kiddos home with educational and moral values like "Be Polite" and helps the parents appreciate the joy and humor of parenting.

Leah White: The Houston Zoo Muses’ Eight Favorite Animal Songs, by Chris Gray we have crossed paths with popular Houston children's entertainer Leah White and her band the Magic Mirrors at Discovery Green and Cactus Music from time to time, and cracked a smile or

two at their sunny tunes about sprinklers, carpooling and summer camp. So when we heard the Houston Zoo recently adopted White's "Beautiful Day" as its official theme song, we reached out

to her for a list of her favorite songs about animals.

Don't all bona fide rock stars need a breakout rock video? Well, if the Houston Zoo is your rock star, its MTV debut is now imminent.. Well, maybe not MTV, but a television station that actually plays music videos. Because thanks to Leah White & The Magic Mirrors the Houston Zoo has an official post-production video presence. Sung by a syrupy sweet girl-next-door cross between Giada de Laurentiis and Debbie Gibson, Nickelodeon award-winning Houston musician Leah White beams, mugs, gestures, and enthuses her way through the Zoo's attractions and exhibits on “It’s a Beautiful Day."

The ditty is the first full-length song (to our knowledge) featuring our hometown zoo at center stage. Crea-tive interpretation of iambic pentameter aside, we appreciate White's inadvertent homage to comfortable yet chic apparel for female caretakers on the go (we won't assume that brood is hers). The real gems, however, are unearthed in White's singsong-y sprinklings of touchable, practical information about endan-gered animals. Considering the Zoo's outstanding focus on conservation these tidbits should come as no surprise. "Just learned something new today; some animals are endangered species. There's not many of them left in the world; we need a population increase...oh, won't you help me help them, please?" Heart-strings, tugged? Done.

The way White gazes into the eyes of that okapi does make us wonder how close White really is to the fauna at the Zoo. Such gazes and nuzzles should be reserved for that heartbreakingly lonely orangutan in the video. Because primates are, well, pretty irresistible. Now that you (or someone more pint-sized than you) have decided you can't live without the tune on your iPod, you can download the group’s entire new album Sprinkler, for your very own. Blast it in your car, at the gym, at the office, in the shower. We won't tell. Or just become the favorite parent/aunt/cousin by taking the little buggers to the Leah White and the Magic Mirrors video premier party on Saturday at the Zoo Reflection Pool from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Because anyone that soulfully works a cat-habitat rhyme is worth seeing live. Can bubblegum kiddie pop get you up off that couch and outside to play? Watch for yourself. Leah White and the Houston Zoo certainly hope so. After all, it is a “beautiful day”.

A Houston singer, who won a Nickelodeon poll as favorite family entertainer, says she was surprised by the honor. Leah White has been performing family and children's music in for several years. White says "It was wonderful to achieve that, especially since this was the first time I was nominated." The singer writes much of her material. One of her latest songs was inspired by the Swine Flu scare. It encourages children to wash their hands regularly as a way of avoiding the illness.

Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the best family band of them all?

what’s next?

Our songs are all original, fun, interactive and educational but

they are unique in that they have an adult sound. We call it the

Shrek version of kid’s music be-cause both parents enjoy it as well

as the kiddos. We have many moms and dads tell us that after they drop off their kids they find

themselves driving around listening to the cd’s and singing

along.

We rock live! We sound great, are super interactive and we get

kids and adults dancing. During shows, we are also educational in that we teach kids how to do “The Wash” (make hand washing fun) and manners with “Be Polite” among others. Leah loves to go into the crowd and run around singing and dancing with kids. There is never a dull moment with our concerts. We aim for high energy, interactive concerts that create a “Wow factor” while sending a positive message.

A band with a high level of

musicianship Each member rocks and are very talented musi-

cians. They impact the music’s sound from their in-volvement in popular disco, Beetles, indie bands, etc. These influences add a super cool and rockin’ vibe to our music so that the entire family finds their hips shakin’ to the beat.

Seasonal Music & Event Tailoring Our music can be tailored to any season. With the

release of the Christmas Album, A White Christmas (Dec. 2009) we have many songs for the holiday sea-son and also for summer beach bash themes, halloween and birthday parties. We are very flexible and want the children & families to have fun.

www.OurRootsAreStrong.com SHORT FILM FOR HOUSTON Featuring song from “Our Roots” album, “Live Oak Trees” Houston’s award winning family band, Leah White & the Magic Mirrors, has teamed-up with Houston preservationist, Sarah Gish, to produce an original album about 13 Houston landmarks in honor of the City’s 175th Birthday. The goal is to educate and inspire our City’s youth about Houston’s history and the importance of preserving our past. The album will include an inter-active map with each landmark. Families are encouraged to go on family field trips together taking out their maps, learning fun facts about the land-mark while listening to the music. The album kicked-off Houston’s 175th Birthday with CD Release parties featuring the music on the album and performed live by Leah White & the Magic Mirrors. The second phase is to have a short film set to the music Live Oak Trees on the album. This short film involves Houston families and supports Houston tourism. This project not only celebrates Houston’s birth-day but continues to give back to the City with families taking the album with the map and visiting all of the sites. It’s a multi-dimensional educational experience that builds the appreciation and culture for our City of Houston that we want to inspire in our youth.
