Het rapport doet de aanbeveling “om een samenhangend
onderzoeksprogramma op te zetten naar de dynamiek,
eigenschappen en potentiële toepassing van nieuwe
webgebaseerde meetinstrumenten. […]
Dit programma zou in ieder geval de volgende tools
moeten volgen: F1000, Microsoft Academic Research,
Total-Impact, PlosONE altmetrics, en Google Scholar.
Het programma zou bovendien de volgende
onderzoeksgebieden moeten ontwikkelen: de concepten
van nieuwe webmetrieken en altmetrics, de
standaardisatie van tools en data en het gebruik en
normalisatie van de nieuwe meetinstrumenten.”

EGOSYSTEMS NEED A RELIABLE INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE

In order for the EgoSystem to function, and what all
metric services have in common, is that there is a
need for identifiers, both for authors and scientific
results.
Author identifier services that are aware of the
scientific results from the author.
Result services that are aware of the authors.
(repositories, journals, data archives, presentation
services, social media, etc.)
Metric services that can integrate Author and Result
services, to create a personal EgoSphere for every
author.

Why author identifier services?
• Author ID services lower the barrier on engaging a new research service
• Preventing from typing the same list of results and identifiers over and over again
• Increases ease of use
