Keeping water clear and vital in water

features, pools or other water projects virtually

always calls for filter technology.

The programme includes systems for both

biological and mechanical water purification.

Optimum water management

1 Calculate the project water content and select the recirculation time

2 Select the right UV-c device

Water purification

Clear and healthy water does not happen on its own: certainly when it comes to water in artificial water features. For each project - large or small - good forward planning is of vital importance to achieving a good result and avoiding the extra costs involved in having to make changes after building the water feature.

All of the technology: the pump, filter and UV-c equipment must be mutually geared and calculated for the capacity needed for theproject in question.

The recirculation time is the amount of time in which the content of the pool is to be pumped around: the less contamination there is, the longer the recirculation time can be. A UV-c device is not a filter and must always be installed in combination with a filter system.

Recirculation timeKoi pond: 2 hoursPond with fish and bank vegetation: 3 hoursSwimming lake with biological plant zone: 4 hoursPond without fish and vegetation: 5 hours(the values given above are indicative)

Flow capacity m³/hThe water content in litres is divided by the recirculation time, and the result is the net capacity in m³ per hour (m³/h). This is the netcapacity that has to be pumped around each hour, and to which all of the technology is geared, making allowance for pipe losses andsuction lift.

A UV-c device disinfects the water by means of radiation and halts the cell division of micro-organisms so that they are no longer able tomultiply.

The flow capacity (m³/h) determines how long the water is irradiated for in the housing; this is the contact time.

The power of the radiation depends on the capacity in Watts of the UV-c lamp.Power (W) x contact time = dose, expressed in mJ/cm². (millijoules per cm²)

Which UV-c device is required? This brochure mentions 3 radiation values for UV-c devices;08 mJ / cm² this radiation power (dose) is effective for ornamental ponds and water basins and is amply sufficient to eliminate floating algae.16 mJ / cm² this radiation power (dose) is effective for all pond types and eliminates many types of micro-organisms that in excessively large quantities can affect the health of fish and people.25 mJ / cm² this radiation power (dose) is effective for all pond and basin types and is operated as the general standard in swimming pool technology. This value is also operated for koi disease prevention.

Select the UV-c device with the details; capacity (m³/h) and Dose ( mJ/cm²).(Operate the flow capacity in m³/h, as explained under point 1)

Example: flow capacity 43 m³/h desired dose 16 mJ/cm² = model VS 75 (table page 6).

4 Select the right pump

Water purification

Filter systemsWe differentiate between two filtration technology processes:

Mechanical filteringContaminants are filtered out of the water without biological purification taking place. Micro-organisms are so small that theycannot be mechanically filtered.

Biological filteringMicro-organisms stick to the filter material in a filter system and form a biomass, which is fed by the organic substances that develop in the water and are too small to be mechanically filtered. Biological filtering can also be carried out naturally: swimming lakes are often designed with a plantation zone that functions as a biological filtering system. The two techniques are used in combination to carry out a full purification process, supported by UV-c lamps and aeration.

Mechanical filtering systems- ITF drum filters, fully-automatic screen filter systems.

Mechanical / biological filter systems- ITF BIO drum filters, fully automatic screen filter systems combined with a biochamber containing biological filter material.- DELTA multiple chamber filter systems with mechanical/biological filter material, up-flow system, manual cleaning of contaminant

chambers.

Select a filter system and apply the flow capacity (m³/h).(Operate the flow capacity in m³/h, as explained under point 1).

Work out which pump is needed for the UV-c device and the filter on the basis of the necessary flow capacity. The necessary pumppressure will also have to be calculated on the basis of the pipe system, application and necessary suction lift. Operate the flow capacity in m³/h, as indicated for the UV-c device and the filter. For pumps see our brochure ‘Moving water’.

DELTA 2 - 5 drainage and connector set

Stainless steel air tube

Filter covers for DELTA 2 - 5 filters

Grid set fine mesh for DELTA 2 - 5 grids

• PVC pipe sawn to length. • Flexible EPDM rings 63 mm for connection to filter.• Incl. viewing glass 63 mm.• 2 End caps 25 mm, 2 overflows; 125x50 mm and 125 x 110 mm.• Slide tapes 63 mm for each chamber and main connection to

drainage pipe.

• Fine airflow.• Clamps for mounting on bottom grid Delta filter. • Aeration and movement with BioCell and BioBall filtration.

• Fibreglass reinforced polyester.• For covering Delta filters.

• Insertion grids for bottom and crossover grid DELTA 2 - 5 filters.• Mesh size 8 mm.• Suitable for use with BioCell, BioBall and substrate.

Complete appendage sets, made to measure for each DELTA 2 - 5 filter type.

The stainless steel air tube is fitted with clamps on the bottom grid of a DELTA 2 - 5 filter and generates a fine stream of bubbles for additional activation of the biological filter material.

Polyester cover for a filter system, safe for people and animals.

The insertion grids fit in the bottom and top grid of a DELTA 2 - 5 filter, which is placed in each chamber. This prevents the filter from being carried away with the water flow.
