Fifteen pianos inspirationally decorated by local, national and international artists pop up throughout Canary Wharf ready for anyone to play. Get your creative juices flowing and let the pianos and their fabulous artworks act as your musical canvas in this quirky and fun project. As the name suggests, the pianos are there to be played.

Part of an international touring artwork devised by British artist Luke Jerram this project has seen over a thousand pianos installed in forty worldwide cities and played by over 6 million people so far.

Share your piano films, photos and stories at canarywharfpianos.com where the story of each piano at Canary Wharf will be recorded. At the end of this project many of the pianos will be donated to local charities and community groups.

Othello is the greatest general of his age. A fearsome warrior, loving husband and revered defender of Venice against its enemies. However he is also an outsider whose victories have created enemies of his own, men driven by prejudice and jealousy to destroy him. As they plot in the shadows, Othello realises too late that the greatest danger lies not in the hatred of others but his own fragile and destructive pride.

After more than a decade working in film and television on projects from Star Wars to Holby City, Hugh Quarshie returns to the RSC to play Shakespeare’s Othello. Hugh will play opposite Lucian Msamati in the role of lago.

Skye Edwards, Morcheeba’s singer and Ross Godfrey guitarist/multi-instrumentalist of Morcheeba, present a special one off acoustic show at Canary Wharf. The intimate setting of the East Wintergarden takes them back to their first appearance at The Jazz Café in the 90s and for this gig they’ll be playing familiar Morcheeba tracks.

Skye’s smooth, soulful voice, so memorable on their hits including Trigger Hippie and Never An Easy Way, is as enchanting as ever - blending trip hop, folk-rock and a subtle down tempo vibe. This is a rare treat, absolutely not to be missed.

For the first time in its ‘Sculpture at Work’ exhibition programme Canary Wharf is collaborating with a company that commissions and sells new artists’ multiples. Established in 1998 by lawyer Nicholas Sharp and journalist Sally Townsend, The Multiple Store is a not-for-profit organisation through which its limited editions are sold via the Internet, at art fairs and occasional exhibitions. The commissioned artists are well-known and carefully selected and the range and ambition of the work is lively and varied. Mostly 3-dimensional, some are humorous, typical of their makers’ diverse working practices. Through this enterprise The Multiple Store aims to encourage a culture of collecting by making available editions by major contemporary artists at affordable prices.

To complement the exhibition in One Canada Square, large-scale works by a number of the artists are displayed in Jubilee Park.

10 SEPTEMBER – 10 NOVEMBERGEORGE GREEN’S SCHOOL: ISLAND GIRL The Island Girl project engaged the Girls’ Group at George Green’s School in a series of research and photography workshops. They explored their area, talking to local groups and taking photographs that represented their identity in their local environment. They looked at the work of female photographers, examining how they expressed their identity. Through the process the girls developed a sense of pride and understanding about their own image and identity as young women and as young photographers. The final results are a collection of portrait photographs, first exhibited in George Green’s School. A postcard book is also available.
