    HOW MANY BODIES HAVE WE GOT?

    Good question, I asked myself the same question

    when I started having out-of-body experiences. Iwould leave my body and turn to look at my physical body but see myself in a differentposition, or even a different place to where Ishould be. Why was that? I investigated andresearched and realized that I was seeing differentbodies, which were still me. I even experiencedmyself as a point of consciousness. Confused? Yesit does sound a bit confusing. So here I want toexplain the difference between the differentbodies that you may see or experience.

    Getting to know these bodies will also help you asit has helped me, so Ive included some

    techniques to help you get in touch with each of

    your 5 bodies.

    You are much more than your physical body, somuch more, if only you could see with your physical eyes who you really are, you would beastonished. You are actually a series of overlapping, multidimensional bodies. Thesebodies are described differently in different

    traditions, but essential amount to 5 differentlayers: The Physical, Etheric, Astral, Mental andSpiritual. Lets take a look at these core elementsof YOU, and how they effects your experience inboth your physical life and your astral travels.

    Your physical body is the most dense of all,vibrationally speaking. Of course we know this

    because we can see and touch it. Thus thephysical body also has the slowest and lowestvibration. For most of us, doing an exercise to getin touch with our physical bodies isnt necessary.Most of us already walk, talk, see, smell, hear and

    touch. But what we generally dont do is get in touch with the neurological experience of thephysical body. So heres something you can do to

    connect with your physical body in a way that willre-awaken your awareness of the nature of this,most dense of the 5 bodies.

    Building Muscle Memory

    Can you remember what it was like to learn how to ride a bike? How about learning to drive a car,catch a ball, jump rope? These are all activities that

    require the brain to build new neural wiring so that the muscles and nerves know what to doand when to do it. So when you rst got on that

    two-wheeler, you probably teetered and fell a few times before your physical body (your brain andyour and muscles) could gure out how tobalance, pedal and steer all at the same time.

    With practice, you built those neural networks

    and then could stay up on two wheels. Every time you learn a new physical skill, you get back in touch with your physical body in a kind of primalway. These physical skills (the new ones and theones youve mastered) are often called motor skills. Now, if youre old enough to read this,youve probably already built and rened themajority of the motor skills youll need throughlife. But heres a fun little experiment you can do

    to remember what it feels like when your physicalbody is learning something new.

    The Mork from Ork MuscleChallenge

    Do you remember that old TV show with Robin Williams? The one about the alien living on ear th?He used to have a hand signal that becamepopular with school kids. Hed hold his hand up insomething similar to a Vulcan greeting (a la Star Trek). In this gesture, the ngers are straight andformed into a V by creating a space between themiddle and ring ngers. Now, if you learned thiswhen you were young, youve already build thephysical wiring and muscular response to do thiswith ease. BUT, have you ever tried to switch thengers so that they become more like the letter W, with the middle and ring ngers next to eachother and the pinkies and pointer separated? Goahead and try it. See if you can alternate betweenV and W while keeping all ngers in alignment.Not too easy, is it? But if you practice longenough, youll actually train your physical body adding specic wiring to your physical brain todo this easily, without even thinking.

    Learning to astral project consciously is basically about programming yourself, just like you didwhen you learned to ride a bike. You have to

    learn to plug into your OBE abilities, plug in your consciousness plug, ick the switch and hey presto youre there!

    The etheric body isnt often talked about in day- to-day life or even in the world of astral

    projection. But by getting in touch with your etheric body, youll have a better ability to dealwith and understand some of the unusualphenomenon that can happen during your astralprojection sequence. Arthur Powell and MaxHeindel described the etheric double as amedium between the astral and physical realms.Ether is the vital force that physical forms need

    to exist on the Earth. So when you see your physical body asleep you are not technically speaking in the astral but in a kind of buffer zone

    that links the astral with the physical.

    Your etheric body always remains close to your physical body. Theres no consistent agreementabout the function of the etheric body, but one

    that makes a lot of sense is that it serves as a kindof recharge battery and protective sheathing for

    the physical while your astral body (discussedbelow) is away. Astral Projection exper t AnnMoss explains the Etheric Bodys function thisway:

    When the [physical] body goes to sleep, theetheric expands, the chakras open, and we

    receive energy and restore our depleted supply.This is why it is also referred to as the vitality sheath or health body.

    Being aware of this body can help so much duringastral projection with enough practice you may even automatically wake up focused in this body ready to project. So take time to do thisexercise, take time to work with your energy, feelit, sense it, get to know it like a friend for it truly is.

    Heres an exercise to help you sense your ethericbody

    The Brushing Hands Technique

    This technique comes from well-known author, teacher and long-time astral projector RobertBruce.

    1) Sit comfortably and place one hand on a tableor your lap, palm up.

    2) With the other hand, stroke the surface of youhand from wrist to nger tips a few times. The

    trick here is to memorize the sensations in thereceiving hand while you are doing this exercise.

    3) After about 20 seconds, stop and try to feel the same sensations with your mind alone. Focusyour attention totally on what you are doing.

    4) Do this for about a minute or so, until you canreally sense the same, stroking feeling. You mightalso feel tingling, pressure or even buzzing in your hand. When you do, you know youve activatedyour etheric body in your hand area. Well done!Youre well on the way.

    You can continue by doing the same exercise on the other hand, and then the bottoms of your feet.

    Have you ever heard of remote viewing, basically itis the practice of seeking impressions about a or unseen target using paranormal means, e.g. extra-sensory perception (ESP) or sensing with your mind. Your mental body is the part of you thatscapable of remote viewing. During a mental body projection, theres none of the weird stuff,distortions etc, that you might nd during an astralprojection. Nor is there any sense of actually traveling from point A to point B. You simply arrivewith your mind. When the mental body journeys, itexperiences no thought litter the way the astralbody can. You do not experience emotion so thereis a lot less interference. The mental body transcendsboth space and time. It can be called a pure state of awareness. Advanced remote viewers, using their mental body, are able to communicate telepathically.Traveling in the Mental Body is like nothing in this

    world, you may have experiences that you cant putinto words because they are truly too incredible for words. Imagine experiencing something beyondwords, you carry it with you for the rest of your life.

    Strengthening your Mental Body Muscles

    The best way to build awareness of your mentalbody is by developing the ability to maintain intensefocus on a single subject or object while in a deepstate of relaxation. With this 2-par t exercise, youlllearn how to build your capacity for detailedawareness and then transfer that power, in a remoteviewing-like fashion, during meditation.

    The Focused Awareness Technique

    Part I

    In part one of this exercise, choose an object thatyoull be able to examine in great detail. Something

    in your home or garage, or a family membershome, is best. Ideally, it should be visually interesting,with some different parts, colors, shapes or details.Once youve decided on your target, spend about10 minutes examining it with as much focusedconcentration as possible. If you need to take ashort break in the middle of this, thats ne. Theimportant thing is to build focus and devote enough

    time to studying the characteristics of the object so that you can memorize them.

    The Focused Awareness TechniquePart II

    In a separate space and time, youll go into ameditative state. Once youre in that state, begin toconjure up the object you had studied. Again, goover it in as great of detail as possible. Try toremember its exact feel, shape, color and parts. If itwas something you held, try to remember its weightand texture in your hands. Do this for about 5-10minutes and then rest, or come out of your meditation. You can do this several different timeswith different objects or with the same object.

    With practice, your ability to experience the objectas if you were actually seeing and holding it willbecome so strong that it will seem real. Thisexperience will give you a clear understanding of thenature of the Mind Body.
