You need to get the Texture handouts and the Abstract Design handout for this project. Part one: Texture Handout SEE PAGES 3 AND 4 OF THIS DOCUMENT IF YOU DID NOT GET IT FROM MRS. TOOKEY IN CLASS Look at the texture examples on the left of the handout. You are to redraw the examples in the empty boxes to the right. You have two class periods to do this. These will be due with your abstract design project but you must have them finished prior to beginning the project. You will lose points if it looks like you rushed through it, or did not complete it. Part two: Abstract Design The requirements for this project are listed on your Abstract Design handout – SEE THE NEXT PAGE. YOU WILL HAVE TO SEE MRS. TOOKEY FOR MORE EXAMPLES. Make sure you meet all of the requirements. You MUST write the grading criteria on the back of your project. If you do not, you automatically lose five points. ABSTRACT DESIGN PROJECT

MATERIALS NEEDED: All of your pencils, erasers, a ruler and your sketchbook DIRECTIONS: Complete and follow ALL the requirements below. Requirements:

1. In your sketchbook, lightly draw with your pencil a 1/2 inch border – do not draw outside the border. 2. Review the attached sheet on SHAPE – an element of design. It is very important to the success of this

project that you understand the difference between organic and geometric shapes. 3. Design and draw an Organic shape. You must have a minimum of five different organics. 4. Design and draw a Geometric shape background so it appears to be below the organic shape. You must

have a minimum of five different geometric shapes. 5. Complete your Abstract Design by using the textures from the texture pages and adding other abstract

objects of your choice. Important, I should not recognize FIRE or SKATEBOARDING LOGO’S ect. – ABSTRACT – means two things – not recognizable as something real or something that is not completely real – meaning that you as the artist have taken something real and changed it’s appearance to look not real!

6. Please look – Do not copy – the attached examples – they are examples that I hope will inspire you to come up with your own creative designs.

7. 90% of your 9” by 12” paper should be used – very little to no white paper should be left blank. 8. Shade in areas of your design from light to dark values (refer to VALUE sheet – value is another

element of design!) 9. HAVE FUN! See Family Link for when your project and texture pages are due.

GRADING /58 Completed Textures #1 and #2 /21 Work shows the use of many textures (a minimum of seven different textures) /31 Work shows an understanding of Abstract /15 Organic shapes were used (a minimum of five different shapes IN FRONT) /15 Geometric shapes were used (a minimum of five different shapes IN BACK) /40 A variety of value was used (from black to white and everything in between) /30 90% rule (only 10% of your paper is negative space) /30 Craftsmanship is evident /30 Student was creative with coming up with their own ideas for their design. /30 Use of Class Time /300 TOTAL POINTS
