DESCRIPTION

Asheboro Events Magazine-38th Annual Asheboro Fall Festival-October 2 & 3, 2010-Along with all the other wonderful things that come with fall, it’s fair and festival season. I must have been a carnie in another life because I love going to fairs, festivals, carnivals and pretty much anywhere meat is served on a stick and cotton candy is in abundance. So, naturally, when I first heard about the 38th Annual Asheboro Fall Festival, I got excited, marked it on the calendar and counted down the days. When the day finally rolled around, I was not disappointed. The parade was awesome (note to promoter: please move it up a half hour. I ran out of sunlight and my pictures didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked). It was a great weekend and a fabulous event. I have already marked the calendar for October 1 & 2nd next year and have started counting down the days. Please enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them and we’ll see you out and about soon.

Dear Readers,

Fall is my favorite time of year. Typically speaking, it starts getting cooler, the yummy food is in abundance, and, depending on

where you live, sweaters become a regular part of the wardrobe. Last year here in North Carolina, it was a little too warm for sweaters, but I still wore one every now and then anyhow.

Along with all the other wonderful things that come with fall, it’s fair and festival season.

I started the fair on Saturday with a gyro and some lemonade. It was a bit messy but it was jam-packed full of meat and the lemonade was freshly squeezed, of course. After polishing off my sandwich, I began taking pictures, another favorite of my favorite things. I like to take candid pictures because I don’t think posed pictures tell the story as well. However, posed pictures are necessary too, and I have plenty of both in this special events magazine. Between Lauren and I, we took

over 1,500 pictures of the Fall Festival during the two days of festivities and this is just a small sampling of some of the better ones (mind you, this is a 44-page publication). We will be posting the others to Facebook and Flickr.

It appeared as though everyone was having a great time so taking pictures was easy. I only had one person ask me not to take their picture and I talk about that in the first edition of Asheboro Magazine. With all the walking we did, my feet got tired so it was great to be able to stop in and see our friends at Lumina Wine and Beer and have a cold malt and barley beverage; they had Mother Earth (one of my favorites) on tap for the day. While there, Andrew (our son and amateur

photographer) unloaded some rubber bands from a carved wooden gun he bought at the fair, on the patrons. Luckily they were all good sports about it. Emily, one of the owners of Lumina, challenged him to a

shooting match. I am not sure who won although I did see a $1 bill change hands. It was good fun to watch.

On Sunday, Lauren wanted to take pictures of the Festival before it opened. We go some great photos of the vendors setting up and the streets before people started to arrive. For me, Sunday was a day of pure indulgence. I started off with a barbeque sandwich from the Livestock Association’s booth and some sweat tea which was perfectly sweetened. I was still hungry so I got an Italian Sausage from the booth across the way. Afterward, I split a funnel cake from the booth supporting the Victory Junction Gang Camp with Sherry and then we wandered around, took more pictures and got the best lemonade of the weekend. I can’t remember whose booth it was but they were the ones with the nice plastic cups with lids and straws.

It was a great weekend and a fabulous event. I have already marked the calendar for October 1 & 2nd next year and have started counting down the days. Please enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them and we’ll see you out and about soon.
