Response to an atheist objection on the creation of man

All praise is due to Almighty Allah, Peace, Blessings and Salutations upon the greatest of Allah’s creation, Nabi Muhammad , His family and all the companions.

As humankind celebrates its many marvels and advances in what is hailed as the most Technologically advanced era, religions and their leaders are quizzed with

questions from the sceptics as well as those who are weak in faith regarding the concept of God. With so much of information and misinformation available at the click of a button, the unsuspecting mind of the youth is at logger-heads with the two paths laid before them viz. The path of religion and the path of Atheism (the doctrine or belief that there is no God).

Initially, Iblees (Satan) began to teach people idolatry which led to Sayyiduna Nooh being sent to humankind by Allah . Since then, Iblees has been leading men to their destruction by deceiving them into praying to false gods. In recent times though, his game-plan has somewhat drifted. Since there are already millions who are polytheists, he has now found another means to destroy the belief in true Divinity by means of the “Big Bang Theory”, “Theory of Evolution”, “The God Delusion”, etcetera.

This has been the master plan of Satan in recent times. He has dedicated his efforts in collapsing the concept of the existence of God via the use of analogical comparison. The use of logic seems to be the main focus in society today. If a religious concept is illogical, then our children are taught to refute it. The Qur’an has explained the consequences of drawing to a conclusion when it results in the disobedience to Allah and His Messengers .

Among the many objections raised by Evolutionists, Humanists and Naturalists, the one objection which they seem hell-bent on introducing into schools of late is as follows:

OBJECTION:

“If God did create Adam & Eve ( Hadhrath Aadam and Hawa ), they would have both belonged to a specific ethnic group or two at most. If this is so, how does the world now consist of so many different ethnic groups and races?

Even if Adam was of one, and Eve of another, there would be a maximum of three ethnic groups. One for Adam , one for Eve , and one possible new gene due to the mixing of DNA of Adam and Eve (if they really were of two different ethnic groups). Aside from that, there is no logical explanation from religion as to how humankind flourished into so many different ethnic groups. This could only have occurred by means of evolution and natural selection. Religion cannot explain this up to this day.”

Response:

Once again we find that the need for logic is paramount to any of their discussions as the use of analogical comparison forms the premise of their theories. We must remind all readers of the definition of faith.

Faith : “Belief that is not based on proof” With that in mind, let us now turn to the Holy Qur’an for guidance in the above mentioned matter. Allah clearly explains to us in many verses of the Qur’an that Aadam was created uniquely without human intervention.

Since the Atheist premise is based mainly upon logic followed by theoretical information, we will progress to understand the Islamic perspective from the Holy Qur’an followed by a logical conclusion from the combined verses. Allah has used different words to depict the various stages in the creation of man (Aadam ). He Allah clarified that He has created us from dust, sand, clay, and water. Let us now analyze the definitions of each ingredient mentioned in the creation of Prophet Aadam which are coherent to the discussion at hand as per the dictionary.

Clay:1 A natural earthly material that is plastic when wet, consisting essentially of

hydrated silicates of aluminium: used in pottery, etc. 2 Earth and Mud.3 Earth, especially regarded as the material from which the human body was

formed.

Sand:1 The more or less fine debris of rocks, consisting of small loose grains, often

of quartz.2 A light reddish or brownish-yellow colour.

Dust:1 Earth or other matter in fine, dry particles.2 The ground, the earth’s surface.

Materials utilized in the creation of ManThe Qur’an has described the materials utilized in the creation of man by detailing the various stages in the creation of Prophet Aadam. We present those verses for the

benefit of the reader.

VERSE 1:“And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth)”

Surah Al-Mu’minun(23:12)

This verse is very clear. It explains that man was created from clay

VERSE 2:“…Said he (Satan): “I am better than him. You created me of fire and made him of clay.”

Surah Al-A’raaf(7:12)

When Satan refused to bow in honor of Aadam , his objection was based upon the material used to create Aadam i.e. clay. A logical premise yet again!

VERSE 3:“…Surely, We have created them from cohesive black clay.”

Surah As-Saffaat(37:11)

In this verse the color and characteristic of this specific clay is mentioned. “It has been mentioned that the origin of the human being is found in this sticking clay

whichexplains the clinging nature of a human being. He will either cling to this world, his

religion, to the devil, or to the blessed feet of the Beloveds of Allah ” Tafseer Roohul Bayan

Once again the description becomes clearer and another characteristic is

mentioned.

VERSE 4:“He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the potter’s clay.”

Surah As-Saffaat(37:11)

This verse explains in more detail the type of clay which was used in the creation of man. The usage of the potter’s clay is to explain that he was shaped. The

aforementioned verses depict the various stages in the creation of man.

For His creation, God Almighty took various types of sand and kneaded it with water which was then left to dry. After it dried and began to crack, Allah

bequeath the soul in him. Tafseer Roohul Bayaan

A simple study into each of the above verses in relation to the creation of man reveals that there are various types and colors of sand, clay, and dust, etc. From an Islamic perspective, the reason for having so many different ethnic groups is very easy to grasp.

Prophet Aadam was created from the combination of these elements. Each of the above mentioned elements are of different types and differ in coloration as well. Ethnicity is based on color.

The ethnic groups of the world are divided into five major colors which are Black, White, Brown, Red and Yellow. It is by no means a coincidence that these are the same five colors which are found in sand as well. If a person has to adopt the Qur’anic perspective in relation to this matter, it will be very easy to conclude that humankind took the color of the element they were created from.

See books of exegesis from above mentioned verses.Point of Interest: The claim that humankind was created from all of the above isn’t resided only to Islamic belief, but has been theorized in the world of science as well.

Alexander Graham Cairns-Smith, an organic chemist and molecular biologist at the University of Glasgow, most famous for his controversial 1985 book, Seven Clues to the Origin of Life. The book popularized a theory he had developed since the mid-1960s that a simple intermediate step between biologically inert matter and organic life might be provided by the self-replication of clay crystals in solution. His theory is more famously known as the “clay theory”.

Basically the professor theorized that mankind could have been created from the coming together of clay particles. This comes as no surprise to Muslims as we have been told in the Qur’an that Humankind has been created from clay.

The surprising factor is that very few have heard about this clay theory. When asked as to why it hasn’t been popularized (as it is a more recent theory than the theory of evolution), they reply by explaining that the clay theory has not yet been perfected.

Ofcourse we know that it will never be perfected as it is Allah who is the Master of creation.

The question which now begs to be asked is, ‘Why is it that the media hasn’t made this theory famous yet?’ I suspect it is because their ‘Theory’ of evolution may need to be checked again if theories of this nature are given headway. We must do well to remember that majority of what science insists on now, changes with time. This is why most of their publicized works remain in the realms of ‘theory’, that is because as strong as their arguments may seem, they are still built upon foundations of uncertainty.

A humble request to anyone who would like to read about the flaws in the darwinian theory, to read the book, “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design” by Jonathan Wells, Ph.D. This would be ideal for anyone who requires more information on how to tackle the issue from a scientific standpoint.

Q>I have a question on whether or not nail polish is permissible,

and the reason due to it. Also, I had heard that the reason it may not be permitted is because when performing wudu, the water cannot penetrate through the nail polish to reach the nails, however, there has been a nail polish created which allows the penetration of water through the nail polish to the nails so the wudu is able to be completed. Jazakallah khair

A<If the nail polish or nail varnish contains alcohol - a liquid

substance capable of intoxicating - then it is impure. To apply a substance to the body that contains impure and forbidden substances is Haram.

“The favoured and preferred stance is that every droplet of toddy etc. and other intoxicant liquids are similar to alcohol; Haram and impermissible. Not only Haram, but in fact categorically a major impurity [najasat e ghaliza], just like urine. This is the relied upon stance and the stance upon which the Fatwa is issued.” [Fatawa Ridawiyyah: 25:108]

If the nail polish does not contain anything Haram, then it is permissible to apply it, but it must not be visible or shown in front of ghayr maharim, as it is impermissible for women to reveal their adornment in front of ghayr maharim.

“And not to reveal their adornment except to their own husbands”[Qur’an 24:31]

If the nail polish – provided it is free from any impure and Haram substance – covers the nails in such a way that water cannot penetrate through it when performing wudu or ghusl, then such nail polish must be removed before performing wudu or

to music i have no option. i was wondering will this be classified as a sin? Reasons why i have to listen to music is because when i go back to Manchester my cousin plays music and he plays it really loud also sometimes when we are sat at home he puts music channels on to which I have to listen i have nowhere else to go as it is only a flat so what would the ruling be on this? A<Wa Alaykum Al-Salam,

It is not permissible to listen to musical instruments. There are several Ahadeeth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which forbid the use of and to listen to musical instruments. Here is one which is rigorously authentic, “Verily amongst my nation (Ummah) will be those who will deem permissible fornication, khamr (alcohol) and musical instruments”. This Hadith is recorded by Imam Bukhari, Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Dawood and Ibn Maajah.

One must refrain from attending places where forbidden acts take place. The excuse written in the question is not a valid excuse according to Islamic law. One who has no intent of listening to music but music reaches his ears, he is not accountable for it. And Allah knows best.

Q>Is it permissible to perform Sajdah e Tilawat after the Fardh

of Fajr and Asr? Are the rulings on the times permissible similar to that of Nafl?

A<It is permissible to perform the Sajdah e Tilawat after the Fard of Fajr

and Asr. Sajdah e Tilawat is Wajib and does not follow the same rules as the prohibited timings for Nafl Salah besides in two as it has been mentioned in Bahar e Shariat. The first is at the time of Khutbah, whether that is for Jumu’ah, Eid, Nikah, Istisqa’, Hajj or kusoof and the second is at the time when something distracts the heart and you have the ability to get rid of it (like the presence of food at the time of hunger). Sajdah e Tilawat can be performed at any time except the two times mentioned above and the following three Makruh times:After sunrise until the sun rises so much that one finds it hard to stare at the sun. This is twenty minutes in Malawi, India and is slightly longer in the UK]\

Before sunset until the sun sets so much that one can stare at the sun without difficulty. This is also twenty minutes in Malawi, India but slightly longer in the UK.

At midday while the sun is at it’s highest peak. This can be worked out using a simple calculation mentioned in Bahar e Shariat. It is impermissible to perform the Sajdah e Tilawat during these Makruh times as stated in Bahar e Shariat. If the Ayah of Sajdah was prayed during a Makruh time, then it is better to delay in performing the Sajdah e Tilawat until the Makruh time finishes, however if one did perform the Sajdah e Tilawat during the Makruh time in this case it is permissible. [Bahar e Shariat] However, If the Ayah of Sajdah was prayed in a non-Makruh time, then to do

Sajdah in the Makruh time is Makruh e Tahrimi. [Bahar e Shariat] And Allah knows best.Answered by: Muhammad Kalim, PrestonVerification: The answer is correct and it is also important to know that it is Makrooh Tanzeehi to delay the Sajdah of Tilawah if the verse of Sajdah is recited or heard outside of Salah. If it is heard or recited in Salah then it is Makrooh Tahreemi to delay the Sajdah of Tilawah.Zahid Hussain Al-Qadri (Beggar at the doorstep of Scholars)

Q>As salaamu alaikum. I would like to know

weather a husband can use condom/contraception whilst performing intercourse with his wife. Does islam give permission for it.

A<Using a condom in Islamic Law is permissible if it is a mutual

agreement between the husband and wife and there is a valid reason for not planning to have a child. If the wife is not happy with the husband using contraception and vice versa then it is disliked and in some cases maybe severely disliked depending on the reason and severity of disagreement. Also, the contraception used must not be made of any impurity such as extracts from an unlawful animal.

The purpose of a condom is to stop the male’s sperm from meeting the female’s egg which is known as “Azl” in Arabic. The companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) practiced this and the Quran or the Messenger (peace be upon him) never forbade it.

The honorable Jabir (Allah is pleased with him) narrates,

“We used to practice azl whilst the Quran was being revealed (in the time of the Prophet )” (Bukhari)

“And this news reached the Prophet (peace be upon him) and he never prohibited us from it”.

This act of avoiding pregnancy must be due to a valid reason.

A relevant example for those who live in Europe is the fear of the child not being given a Islamic environment. Imam Ibn Al-Hummam writes in his masterpiece, Fath Al-Qadeer,

“It is better to practice “Azl” for partners living in a non Dar Al-Islam country where there is fear that the child will not be a pious and practicing Muslim”.

If there is no valid reason then the pleasure of Allah is that you give birth to children and be pleased with the way of nature chosen by Allah and increase the human race and add to it’s continuity. This is the pleasure of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as he said,

“I will be proud of the size of my nation (ummah) compared to the other nations on the day of Judgement”.

May Allah give us all children that become pious and add value to the societies they live in.

And verily Allah knows best.

Q>asslamualykum respcted mufti saab. i had a question regaring

hypocrisy. When a person tells another to do somthing and dosent do it himself in literal terms this is hypocrisy (correct me if i am wrong) but is this the very same hypocrisy that is mentioned in the ahadith?

A<Wa Alaykum Al-Salam,

The Scholars have defined the word Munafiq as, “He who utters Islam from his tongue and does not believe it to be correct in his heart”. This is from the four types of infidelity (Kufr). This is the meaning of the word Munafiq for whom Allah mentions that they will be in the lowest part of the hell fire.

In Ibn Maajah it says that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “He who finds the Azan in the Masjid, then leaves and does not leave for a purpose and does not intend to return then he is a Munafiq”. In several other narrations the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has mentioned many signs of a Munafiq. However, the Scholars agree that the word Munafiq in these Ahadeeth does not mean he is a non-believer but it means he carries out acts which are similar to a Munafiq who is a non-believer. He has attributes of a actual Munafiq. This has been mentioned in Ashi’ah Al-Lam’aat by Sheikh Abd Al-Haq Al-Muhaddith.

In Fatawa Fayd Al-Rasool, Mufti Jalal Al-Deen Amjadi writes that there are two types of Nifaq (hypocrisy). They are, hypocrisy in belief and hypocrisy in action. A hypocrite in action is the literal meaning of “hypocrite” understood in our custom and surely Allah knows best.

IntroductionAllah in whose name we begin, choicest of salutations upon all his chosen Messengers , particularly upon the final Messenger, the Beloved of Allah , the Mercy unto the entire universe, Nabi Muhammad , his Noble household and upon his illustrious Companions .

Historically, the Day of Aashura has been indicative of a day heralding great favour upon the Prophets of Allah . Even for this Ummah, Rasoolullah indicated to us that the reason for our fasting is based on a celebratory event in the form of the freedom of Nabi Moosa and the Banu Israel from the tyranny of Pharaoh. To this day, our fasting on Aashura is based on the irrefutable fact that Rasoolullah fasted on Aashura, as the following narration explains; Narrated by Hadhrath Abdullah Ibn Abbas : The Prophet came to Madinah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Aashura. He asked them about that (fast). They replied, “This is a good day, the day onwhich Allah rescued Bani Israel from their enemy. So, Moses fasted this day.” The Prophet said, “We have more claim over Moses than you.” So, the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast (on that day Aashura).– Sahih Bukhari

Once the command for the fast of Ramadhaan was revealed, the fast of Aashurah was no longer obligatory and was deemed optional as the hadith recorded explains;

Narrated by Sayyidah A’ishah RadiAllahu Anha: “(The tribe of) Quraish used to fast on the day of Aashura’ in the Prelslamic period, and then Allah’s Apostle ordered (Muslims) to fast on it till the fasting in the month of Ramadhaan was prescribed; whereupon the Prophet said,

“He who wants to fast (on ‘Aashura’) may fast, and he who does not want to fast may not fast.” – Sahih Bukhari

The above two ahaadeeth are indicative of why the Ummah of Rasoolullah fast on Aashura. Since that request of the the Prophet for his Ummah to fast on Aashura, (regarding the freedom of Nabi Moosa and the isrealites, which remains intact as the reason for fasting to this day in 1436 AH) we, the Ummah continue to do so based upon his action and request. For the fifty or so odd years leading upto the incidents at Karbala, this was the very reason why all the Sahabas and Ahlul Bayt fasted on the 10th of Muharram.

After the demise of the Beloved Messenger (11 A.H), there is no event more tragic than the Martyrdom of Imaam Husain at Karbala. It is indeed a stain in the history of this Ummah, and a reminder of how swiftly we can turn against our own brethren. The incidents which occurred at Karbala however, are even more horrific when we realize that the grandson of the Noble Messenger , was martyred by the very people who recited the same kalimah brought to them by his grandfather. The manner in which he and his family were oppressed, cut-off from their water supply in that desolate land, and martyred, is undoubtedly an event which causes tears to flow from the eyes. The tragic events at Karbala involving Imaam Husain , his family and friends occurred in the month of Muharram around 60/61 AH. His actual martyrdom occurred on the 10th of Muharram, which was already identified by Muslims as the Day of Aashura.

The Sunni-Shia divide is indeed at the vanguard of discussions in relation to the crisis of the Ummah in the 21st century. The Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah has been accused by the Shia counterparts of forsaking the Ahlul Bayt. This is a false claim and one which reeks with bias. The Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah undoubteldly love the Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet immensely.

We do acknowledge certain groups who distance themselves from the Ahlul Bayt to the point of declaring the events of Karbala as ‘insignificant’. Quelling an extremist view by adopting another extremist view is illogical in the fight against extremism. We must never let ourselves become distant from the Ahlul Bayt just because some other sect claims the Ahlul bayt for themselves. At the same juncture, in our love for them, we must never become blind to the principles of Shariah,

nor allow ourselves to become haters of the illustrious companions of Rasoolullah . May Allah guide us to the straight path!

Shaam-e-KarbalaMartyrdomAllah states in the Holy Qur’an,

“And he who obeys Allah and His Messenger will get the company of those who’ve been blessed by Allah , such as the Prophets , the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous, and what good companions they are!”

– Surah Nisā (4), Verse 69

Two points are emergent:1. Those who are obedient and follow

Allah and His Messenger will attain the companionship of the Prophets , the truthful the martyrs, and the pious.

2. The qualities of the above four groups, i.e.: prophethood, righteousness, martyrdom and piety are favors of Allah Almighty .

The Holy Prophet’s being, comprehensively possessed supremacy in every favor and excellence granted to any creation. In fact, whoever attained any favor or excellence was endowed only through his means. Whatever amount of excellence and splendor found amongst the Prophets , the truthful, the martyrs and the saints is a reflection of Rasoolullah’s excellence and splendor.

This is because Muhammad Mustapha is the means of all blessings and benedictions for every existence of creation. Just as how the root is the reason for an entire tree (including its branches and fruits) having existence and attractiveness, so too is the Holy Prophet’s being is the means of every category of favor for the entire creation.

The favor of martyrdom too was encompassed exceptionally by Rasoolullah’s blessed self.

Categories of MartyrdomThere are two types of martyrdom,

1. Open martyrdom 2. Concealed martyrdom

Open martyrdom is when a Muslim acquiescently gives his life or is martyred while fighting the enemies of Allah and His Messenger . It occurs when a Muslim fights in the path of Allah and for the upliftment of His deen.

Concealed martyrdom is the sudden occurrence of death through poisoning, a plague, being burnt, a woman passing away due to childbirth, etc.

The Definition of a Martyr

Imaam Fakhruddin Raazi states,

“The word ‘martyr’ on the scale of fu’ail has the meaning of an active participant. A martyr is a person who attests to the truthfulness of Allah’s deen either by speech and proof or by martyrdom by the sword. “

The person who’s martyred fighting in the path of Allah is called a ‘shaheed’ (witness) because in sacrificing his life, he bears a testimony to the truth of Allah’s deen.” – Tafseer Kabeer

By this definition, we have to accept that the favour of martyrdom which was possessed by the Holy Prophet’s being. Has there ever been anyone who provided proofs and miracles testifying to thetruthfulness of Islam more than Rasoolullah ? Who does not know that for the upliftment and testimonyof this true deen, the Holy Messenger endured 13 continuous years of intolerable oppression in Makkah? He was verbally abused and pelted with stones in the streets of Makkah and Taif (to name just one form of oppression). It was for

this reason that he said, “No prophet ever experienced such difficultiesand troubles that I endured in the path of Allah.”

The Prophet even left his home and birth-city; and in Madinah, by participating in several battles, heeven testified to the truthfulness of Islam by the sword! Rasoolullah sustained injuries in these battlesand his blessed tooth was also artyred in one of them. In all aspects, he encompassed the quality of martyrdom. The only difference is that the extraction of his blessed soul did not take place in the battlefield because Allah promised him,

‘And Allah will save your life from the people.’– Surah Māida (5), Verse 67

Hence, had the Holy Prophet been martyred in a battle by a non-Muslim and his soul taken away, the non-Muslims would’ve gained a chance to belie the promise of Allah and the Holy Qur’an. Thus it ascertained that the Prophet’s being; encompassed open martyrdom.
