Howell, Director of Art, Design and Technology AS & A Level Art & Design: Fine Art (AQA) PROGRESSION ROUTES An A-Level in Art and Design can help students prepare for further study or careers in a vast range of opƟons, such as; architecture, interior design, fashon and other forms of design, from engineering to graphics. ASSESSMENT Art and Design is comprised of components. Students must show evidence for all four Assessment ObjecƟves for all components. AS Component 1 (Porƞolio) is worth 60% of the overall AS grade. AS Component 2 (Externally Set 5-hour Assignment) is worth 40% of the overall AS grade. A A-Level Component 1 (Personal InvesƟgaƟon) is worth 60% of the overall A-Level grade. A-Level Component 2 (Externally Set 15 -hour Assignment) is worth 40% of the overall A-Level grade. HOMEWORK Homework is set weekly, and must be completed to a high standard every week. It may take the form of working on a project, piece of research or compleƟng work started in class. Students will be encouraged to work independently. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Grade 6 GCSE Art and Design or Grade 6 GCSE TexƟle Design. COURSE DESCRIPTION In Art and Design, In Art and Design, students will explore a wide range of 2D and 3D materials and techniques. Students will produce pracƟcal and criƟcal/contextual work in one or more areas including painƟng, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, land art, installaƟon, printmaking, film, animaƟon, television, video and photography; lens-based and/or light- based media. GCE Art and Design: Fine Art students should demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary Art pracƟce, and be able to produce work that embraces a range of ideas. This specificaƟon aims to develop: - creaƟve and imaginaƟve ability and pracƟcal skills for engaging with and for communicaƟng and expressing original ideas, feelings and meanings in art, craŌ and design. - invesƟgaƟve, analyƟcal, experimental and interpreƟve capabiliƟes, aestheƟc understanding and criƟcal and enquiring minds, with increasing independence. - cultural knowledge and understanding of art, craŌ and design and of the - cultural knowledge and understanding of art, craŌ and design and of the media and technologies used in different Ɵmes, contexts and socieƟes. - personal aƩributes including self confidence, resilience, perseverance, self-discipline and commitment.
