There is no fee for entry. (Please also provide a .pdf proof.) Layered, vector art is strongly preferred. Regardless of its artistic merit, flattened art may be rejected. Flattened art may be considered at the discretion of judges if vector poster elements and typefaces are provided separately. Within the context of the design, sufficient space should be provided for overprinting the Way to Go logo, DRCOG logo and regional variations, including up to three lines of 18-point text. If the poster includes any placeholders for critical elements (such as artwork or titles) it will be disqualified. Two versions are required, however, the major variation between versions is the titles “Colorado Bike Month” and “Bike to Work Day,” as well as specifications outlined on page 2. The poster art forms the basis of all graphic materials for Colorado Bike Month and Bike to Work Day. Poster elements are adapted for advertising (print, online and television), T-shirts, banners and other collateral. The selected poster design will contain vector objects that allow elements to be easily adapted for various collateral and local contexts. The selected design will evoke the fun and freedom of safe bicycling as a commute option. The art will focus on biking to work, for errands, or to school. Artwork featuring recreational riding (such as mountain biking) is discouraged. The selected design will use a color palette that is easily visible from afar. The selected design will be compatible with screen-printing techniques by using spot colors and avoiding gradients. Although many applications of the design will appear in full-color, the selected design will also work well in black and white. The selected design will evoke a sense of universal Colorado appeal without including specific landmarks (such as a particular mountain peak, building or streetscape). The design will be used statewide, in urban and rural areas, on the plains as well as in mountain communities. Judges will likely reject designs that are so generic they could be used in any state. If hand lettering is used, it should be provided as a separate, outlined file. If people are part of the selected design, they will represent ordinary, everyday people of all ages, ethnicities, shapes and sizes.
